Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you get a pilot slot and are committed to 10 years AD in the Air Force, aren't you pretty screwed if you decide you don't like it? While it seems most people like flying for the AF, not every job is for everyone. I just don't see this discussed a lot, and it seems like a major issue. Am I missing something?

Here are a couple low fly complaint messages that were forwarded to me from the wing PAO. I called the guy back after I finally stopped laughing. He's a good guy that really does have some legit PTSD issues. There's a third one where you can hear the jets flying by while he's on the phone. I'll try to find that one. FWIW, we actually do try to avoid this guy's house. Low Fly Complaint Second Call

I am the operations manager for Montrose Regional Airport Colorado (MTJ); I last posted seeking static display aircraft for our annual open house in September and appreciate the help I recieved from the Baseops forum. One of the requirements needed for AETC aircraft participation was an AETC Non-Towered Operating Agreement and contract fuel. In an effort to increase military training activity and to prepare for next years open house I am seeking guidance as to how to obtain an operating agreement? Having had an operating agreement at a prior airport I know Montrose Regional meets the requirements for the agreement and I feel our airport would be a great new cross-count…

I'm just trying to get some opinions on what you guys think about the Club... Right now I'm a member at CAFB, and honestly, I never use it. I don't have the time, for one, and I just don't really partake in any of the "advantages" or "discounts" that they offer. I kind of feel like I might as well be taking $16 a month and throwing it into the trash. Is that money really as important as they tell us, even if we don't use the club all that often? ("they" being the upper chain of command and the club management) Don't get me wrong, I go to the club for assignment nights, and on occasion a "regular" Friday night if a few of my classmates are going too. But even t…

I'm an old(somewhat) Vietnam Era Army officer who has had the privilege of watching my daughter grow into her dream of flying by first getting her PPL in High School, then getting commissioned a 2lt in the USAF with a pilot slot after a great college run, doing IFS, UPT and FTU and loving every minute of it and now finally returning after her first deployment last week from the desert. My hat is tipped to all of you young pilots(and the rest of you like me)who do what you love and make this country safe for the rest of us. Our family is blessed to have been a part of this journey so far, meeting everyone we have along the way and watching in awe as to what you all are doi…

Anybody know anything good about McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas? My brother just found out he is gonna be sent there this summer for 3 weeks for Ops Air Force (he's at the academy) and he's not too pumped about it. Most of his friends got sent overseas to Japan, Korea, UK, etc. or at least to a fighter base to get an incentive ride. I'm just looking for anything fun or good anyone knows to do there so he might have some fun. Thanks for the help.

Anybody else know of any other colleges that are near a beach, and are great for flying? (well the beach isnt that important actually, but it would be nice... lol)I have done my research but cant find any schools that sound des, maybe Kent but not sure either.. Considering putting the UK on the dreamsheet out of the FTU, and I'm having a difficult time finding the regs for importing a vehicle. I've found the UK customs website, but it's going to take some time to decipher that document. Does anybody have some good techniques or gouge for bringing in a newer vehicle? It's an 07 Tacoma if it matters. Cheers

I searched the forum and found a lot about Clovis and Cannon AFB but that was it for New Mexico. It's probably a long shot but has anybody lived in the Las Cruces, NM area? I'm looking at my next assignment being there but I'm not sure how I feel about moving to New Mexico. I've never really been there before so I don't have much basis for my prejudice but it is definitely not high on my list of places I think I want to live. So if anybody does know the area, how good/bad would it be for a 26 year old guy with no family?

I recently got assigned KC-10's to Travis, and will be moving there (I assume) within the next month or so. I was wondering if anyone that is based there could give me information on where to live, and where NOT to live. I recently saw that ghetto video about Fairfield, CA and figured I'd post this. I am not looking to buy at the moment, just rent (apartment, condo, house, townhouse, etc). My girlfriend works in advertising out of Atlanta right now, and is currently searching for jobs out west. I am also wondering, which of the cities would have more job opportunities for her, and are really awesome cities to live in (San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, etc). Thank…

Anyone know if the folks at Flight Safety can/will remove the Centerline Thrust Restriction to an FAA Comm/Multi when doing the checkride for MC-12 training? I've heard directly contradicting information; Flight Safety's own information packet says that they won't allow the checkride to count as an ATP / Be-350 type ride if the student has the Restriction, which implies that the student needs that Restriction removed the minute they walk in the door on the first day. 2ndhand I've heard that more than one student has shown up to training with the Restriction, had Flight Safety add the Vmc Demo maneuver series into the checkride itself, and was able to get the ATP …

I'm giving this some serious thought...feeling I may be vulnerable for a 365 soon anyway, so I want to pick something I might actually enjoy doing...something new and different, something challenging and rewarding. And some may call me crazy, but Iraqi UPT in Cessna 172s and Caravans...now THAT's something different and may be a good change of pace for me. I've seen a couple mentions from hueypilot182 about doing the Herk training for the Iraqis, and that's a possibility too since I'm a Herk guy. Anyone with first or maybe second-hand knowledge of these gigs, please let me know

Hi all, I'm a C-17 pilot at McChord, and have recently authored a piece of software that lets military pilots load airspace, waypoints and PFPS routes into Google Earth. The software is free--I have written it purely for the benefit of my fellow pilots who may wish to use Google Earth to help with mission planning. If you're interested, I invite you to vist www.googleearthpilot.com. The software is available for download, as well as a quick PowerPoint that showcases what the product can do. The software is a beta release. I've done extensive testing myself, but I'm eager to get the product into pilots' hands for hands-on testing and feedback. Enjoy! If you d…

I want to start using an online logbook. I have heard of many people keeping their logbook on Excel, but I like the redundancy of the internet. Does anyone currently use an online logbook or have a recommendation about which one to use?

I'm not going to start a poll because - no offense to anybody who has started a poll, but - polls are gay. I want to know how often young individuals in the Air Force are mentored. I'm not talking about mentoring in the sense of slamming a guy up against the wall and putting a 3000 PSI finger in his chest, I'm talking about - has a SQ/CC, FL/CC, hell...even a 2FL....ever sat you down and mentored you? Has he asked you what you want to do with your AF career? Has he explained to you how the AFPC process works and why you should be smart on it? Has he explained to you why you should take 6-9 minutes a week to scribble down accomplishments to later hand in to your sup…

Is the AF getting the Harvest Hawk package like the USMC for their C-130s? It would be an added plus for the airlift fleet and bring more fight to the enemy. Tac Air isn't needed as much when the largest enemy vehicle is a Toyota 4x4 in Afgan. Let the C-130s drop the Candy and see who picks it up. If it's the bad guys, fire them up. Perhaps the CoS being an old AC-130 guy will find the funding. How much would one F-35 cost anyway? Bet you can get 5 Harvest Hawk packages for the price of one F-35. Are there any AF C-130 crews that would like to pickup that additional mission? Better than flying a RPV in getting kills.

Had this passed to me by my father-in-law. Did a quick search to try to avoid any duplication and didn't see it. Wanted to share. Tango Mike Mike Green Beret in Vietnam who came to the aid of a surrounded and wounded team with a knife and a med kit. Shot 7 times, two grenade wounds, broken jaw, and bayonet wounds in both arms. Fought off the enemy calling in air strikes and getting a helo to take the wounded out. After that was shot down while all were on board he did the same thing until he could call in another. "...when the doctor tried to zip up the body bag he spit in the doctor's face..." An amazing story and an even more amazing soldier. Ego

My girlfriend is going to PCS to Wright-Patt in about two weeks and is looking for a nice neighborhood to find an apartment, and/or for the place that a lot of the junior officers live. If anybody has any insight, whether you have been stationed there before or if you are there now. Thanks.
