There is relentless discussion on this board about getting out of the military, but I don't hear a whole lot from the guys who got out and are making a buck in the civilian world (outside the airlines or guard/reserve). With that being said, I have been looking at the headhunter firms and honestly cannot determine which one, if any, is better than the other. From a completely uneducated perspective, I would think that quality of interviews is a fine balance with quantities of looks you get from companies. Does any one have any experience with Cameron Brooks, Alliance, Bradley Morris that would make you definitively say that one is better than the other?

C-145 makes a successful single engine landing at Talahassee. The news media of course is making a really big deal out of landing on just one engine in low cloud cover... Anyway, it ended well... https://www.wctv.tv/home/headlines/Air-Force-Pilot-Makes-Emergency-Landing-In-Tallahassee-243414381.html

Tried the search function and there is only info for Creech. My wife just received orders to Nellis AFB. They've only given us a week notice before she needs to hit the road. We are trying to find her an apartment that is in a good neighborhood not too far from base. She is not into gambling or drinking so being close to the night life or near the strip is important to her(I on the other hand can't wait to visit!) . Any recommendations on cities/areas/apartment complexes we should check out?

Does anyone know the convention that the USAF uses in its B-courses? I can't find any regulation or any other document that dictates how it is decided. For example 16-EBG at Luke or 15-BBH at Holloman. They aren't always the same even at the same base. Does anyone know what or how the letters are decided? Thank you for your time! Redshift

With this major shortage of pilots that the AF is currently dealing with, is there any hope of a FWQ course or equivalent ever returning? How about a transfer from Army C-12's? I know this topic has been covered before but info changes over time.

Can someone point me to a good source showing numbers of pilots that were downed in a combat theatre and subsequently rescued/returned to service in the same theatre? Any data or sources would be appreciated.

Can someone please clarify for a British civil flight/tower/atc ops person just what an option is you get cleared for? We often get things at an airfield very close to us 'cleared for the option' and that can actually be anything from a full stop, low approach, go around or touch'n'go and just what the pilot does can affect our neighbouring pattern. So just what is an option?

Hey wxpunk, Actually the story about "Kerry the Pizza Snatcher" is not bullshit at all, it comes straight out of the new book "Wreckless Disregard" it was written by a former light Colonel, Buzz Patterson, who flew 141's and later carried the nuclear football during the Clinton administration. He wrote another book called "Dereliction of Duty" I highly recommend these books to any military member who may consider voting Democrat and consequently voting themselves out of a job, or anybody who is looking to get really pissed off for that matter.

Never been to San Antonio before... Some buds & I are going out there later next week for our Brooks stuff, and I was wondering if I could tap into the vast experience of "good times" from everyone on the board to find out where a few young Lts can go around the city and the Riverwalk. Any tips would be appreciated, since we have a limited time there and we want to do it right (sts) Thanks a lot!

Is 28 too old to apply for UPT? I've spoken with a recruiter from the guard and he says that I need to be 27 1/2 and the recruiter from the air reserves says I'll just make the age requirement. I just made 28 in Nov 2004. I'm hoping to apply in may 2005 for the reserves. Not sure what the deadline is for the guard. I haven't been able to get a straight answer from anyone. I know that you cannot reach your 30th b-day before you enter UPT. But can someone give me a good idea of when you would enter UPT from submitting your app? How strict is this age requirement? Any official policy that I can ref. on this?

I just got a notice from a fighter wing in the NE to apply with their unit for an upcoming board. First off, I've never talked to this unit in any way. Has this ever happened to anyone? I don't even know how they got my info. Regardless, I'm staying loyal to my sponsoring unit.

Tragic Loss ERAU and NAC alum ENS Steve Elledge was killed yesterday in a plane crash near NAS Meridian. There is a memorial on the Navy Club homepage: https://www.db.erau.edu/campus/student/clubs/nac/ Steve was a loving husband, an awsome dude and a great friend who would do anything for his bros. He died doing what he absolutely loved. GodSpeed -j Attached Thumbnails

I was reading an AFA magazine a couple months back and I saw a picture of a B-52 pilot attached to an Army unit acting as a forward air contoller. Is this a volunteer only assignment? What are other requirements?

I'm on my way to Little Rock in about 3 weeks to do phase 1 & 2. After that I've got to go to Kirtland probably enroute for D-M. Anyone been through the 130 course at Kirtland lately? Know any of the specifics like where they'll stick me and how often they start a class? I know they have a BOQ, and a TLF (which is one of the nicer ones I've seen- little houses instead of big hotel rooms). Will they pay me full perdiem? One of the biggest questions is how will they work the spouse thing for an enroute. Will she get some sort of perdiem, or am I better off sending her home to mom and collecting FSA? We're already working the rent thing- She's moving ba…

Say I wanted to walk over to the friendly SF shack and qualify on the M-9. Anyone know how to go about this or any details? Specifically, is it limited to those deploying, or can anyone just walk over and get it done? Also, what are the requirements for qualifiying / marksman? I'm full of questions 'cause I've been shooting now for about a year with my H&K, and I want to make it official that I know how to shoot. Thanks in advance.

Jetmaker MiG Displays Latest Maverick Engine On 5 August, the latest version of the MiG-29, the MiG-29 OVT, was demonstrated at Zhukovsky with a new all-axis thrust-vectoring nozzle. It is this version of the MiG-29 that Russia will be offering to India in a tender for 126 fighter jets later this year, MiG chief Alexei Fyodorov said. Discuss. Cheers! M2

So it's the annual Brit Halloween party at their establishment last night, an awesome time. It comes to closing time and about 50 or so folks (USN/AF/USA/USMC) decide to head for the bus after closing time. We all pack on to the bus, 3 guys to a seat and all that and head for CC. As we're trucking along we're all singing the Team America F*** Yeah! song, like good aircrew do. When all of a sudden this Major stands up and starts yelling and I quote, "I want a name and an ID card of the person who just said F*** You!". He then begins to berate everyone on the bus (including the O-5's in the midst of us) on how unprofessional we all are and how degrading it is to th…

I know that relative to the heavies, fighter pilots spend less time flying. What would be involved in a typical day/week aside from flying, briefing or debriefing a mission?

Am I allowed to report into UPT early? If so, how early can I/ should I? Is there some AFI that says how early I can report in to UPT? I am just anxious to get started. Any help in the matter would be much appreciated. Thanks.
