I'm sitting hear on Christmas morning continuing with the "What do I do with my life" discussion. Lately I have had alot of heartburn with the Air Force and I can't figure out how to make my remaing 5 years of service commitment work for me. For instance, by no means am I the first person to complain about SOS and a masters degree. I have completely swallowed the blue pill and conceded to the fact that I have to do SOS in correspondence in order to be competitive to attend in residence. But what I'll do now is make sure that I do it only on the Air Force time. If that means that I spend 2 hours in front of my computer instead of putting up briefing boards, reviewing …

This is a great telling of the story from Rescue's point of view, and reads much better than I'm sure the citation will. https://www.bagram.afcent.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123254042

I know this is an old article. Just wanted to obtain everyone's perspective. https://www.airforcetimes.com/articles/race-and-the-air-force-the-truth-about-how-minorities-get-promoted I read Michael Jordan worked his butt off in the gym to become the GOAT. I have always carried that type of mindset playing basketball and aspiring to become a pilot. It paid off, but working ten times harder than others will burn you out at some point. Especially attempting to do it for 20 years.

Hacker, Hoser, Toro...do you guys know the name of this exercise, and do you know the possibility of joining items like Red Flag, etc in the future? FYI.... 12/17/2003 - NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. (AFPN) -- For the first time, the C-17 Globemaster III was included in a mission-employment exercise held here the first two weeks of December. The C-17 adds a greater air-mobility presence to the exercise, which allows combat air forces to get a better idea of how the airlifters are used, said Lt. Col. John Sullivan, commander of the new C-17 Weapons Instructor Course. The exercise packed the flightline here with aircraft from the Air Force, Navy and German air fo…

I was cross-country this weekend with a group of guys, and one of them is an ex C-model guy. We were discussing the merits of that plane and he told me that within a year the c models will start incorporating an air-to-ground role into their profile, albeit a very limited role at first while they catch up (presumably to Viper and Strike Eagle guys!). This makes sense (to me at least).....a strictly air-to-air role doesn't have that much use against the enemies we fight today (see the F/A-22), and the Eagle WAS originally designed to be a multi-role fighter (then along came the Viper). Anyone else heard anything else about this? [ 08. November 2004, 20:56: Message …

Hello everybody! I'm going to be leaving the flight instruction business in another month or so and moving back to hotel Mom for awhile. I had PRK in October and have 12 months before I can apply for a OTS/UPT slot. I flew my butt off as a CFI this summer and the 24/7 on-call "will fly for food" schedule has taken its toll on me. I'm looking forward to moving back home and getting a job doing something with a set schedule and lunch breaks. In the mean time I would like to do some volunteer work to become a "whole person" or so the AF saying goes. I'm already looking into CAP because I still enjoy teaching and wouldn't mind using my CFI and ground instructor ti…

Disclaimer: I am not picking on FW units, just letting you understand what might be at stake in the somewhat near future - purely FYI folks! BRAC will hit several areas/units no doubt and the Guard is attempting to consolidate(VANGUARD) its assets in its regions as smartly as possible (non-fighter units will be involved as well) I.E. - Former F-16 ANG unit at Richmond, VA is now flying its flag at Langley to save itself. When I say save itself, I'm indicating an issue of too many fighter units on our side of the house. This is not my summation, but kind of an obvious assessment during the last conflict and whatnot on the excess of it all. Granted, if we were at confl…

How much time does it generally take to become Aircraft Commander? Reason I ask is because I was looking through Southwest Airlines website and they will only take AC time as PIC and that got me thinking.

This is a no kidding story from our base. All of the following events did happen. The names have been omitted to protect the stupid. Some detailed information was added because it makes the story more real. The story was told second hand from a C-130 reservist working at our operations headquarters listening in on all the radios and speaking with most of the parties involved. This version is not very far from the truth. In fact, the naked truth is probably even more funny. An active duty crew from Texas is taxiing off the ramp with 50+ Army guys in the back. It's two in the morning, but still kind of hot. The wind dies down at night, the humidity kicks on and it can s…

I'm currently in pilot training and need help deciding what track I should consider. Ever since I wanted to be a pilot, my dream aircraft was the C-17. After flying the Tweet, getting over airsickness , and doing extremely well, I've become uncertain as to what I ultimately want to fly. My ego is telling me to go with fighters, my wife and kid have me leaning towards heavies. Any advice concerning the life of a fighter and heavy pilot would be great.

So my time has come to an end over in England unfortunately and I head back to the states in a couple weeks...hopefully the BAA has figured out wtf is up with their airport security...and I've got a question for you guys that were stationed over in USAFE in the past. I bought a "tax-free" car over here and will be taking it back with me. Is it a huge ass pain to register/title your car? I have a feeling I'm going to get stuck paying tax on it. Texas, where I'm a resident, wants 6.25% and Missouri where I'm going has all sorts of stipulations. People keep mentioning the 3-way split, wtf is that all about? Thanks. EDIT: I'm too lazy to do a search for this topic.…

I have no knowlegde or experience on flying or planes, but i am so desparte and eager to learn. Hey guys, I was thinking about taking some aerobatic training just to help build my situational awareness while upside down and in rolls and loops etc. I was wondering if that is at all beneficial to UPT aerobatic training, or if you guys would recommend spending the money on some other type of training? Thanks
