I've read about units paying for hotel for those who don't live in the area while on duty for the weekend. However, was wondering if travel (i.e. air travel) is discounted when travelling from out of state to your unit's base?

https://taskandpurpose.com/news/army-south-korea-tours-longer/ Would you guys have wanted to do 2 years at Osan/Kunsan? Salute to the "Juice Girls" who ruined marriages and caused a few Airmen to lose clearances by marrying them.

I was deployed to a location last year that wasn't considered tax free, nor were the missions. However, now the missions are considered to be tax free, retroactively including 2017. What paperwork do I need for finance to pay me my taxes back? TDY orders, flight authorizations, 781, a written statement? Also, one of my buddies took the rotator out to Dhafra. He crossed into CentCom on the 31st, but landed on the 1st of the next month. How can you tell finance that you actually shouldn't pay taxes for that previous month?

For you U-2 guys that didn't know, Sooch did his first shot in the Virgin Galactic space ship last week. At 170,000', it was still a low altitude test and he doesn't get astronaut wings yet... but it's great to see him finally get into the saddle after 5 years of training. I guess this makes him the highest flyer within our community. Sooch was an '85 commission; came to the U-2 in late '89; U-2 Solo #544; then did the TPS thing and Palmdale U-2 Flight Test, before coming back as the 1 RS commander. Somewhere in the 90's, I recall him making it into a later round for Space Shuttle selection. The guy has mad pilot skills, and is brilliant. The AF in its…

War Zone Smackdown Wrestlers' performance in Afghanistan offers U.S. troops a respite from combat By Thomas Coghlan, Chronicle Foreign Service Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan -- It wasn't Bob Hope, but the thousands of U.S. troops craning their necks for a peek at the hulking "superstars" and scantily clad "divas" in the hastily constructed wrestling ring at Bagram Air Base didn't seem to mind. "I'm just here to watch the chicks wearing pretty much nothing," said Spec. Cody Chandler, 28, of Palmdale (Los Angeles County). Apache helicopters and A-10 Warthogs with soldiers perched on top formed the backdrop for the holiday spectacle as the stars of World Wrestli…

Way to go Germany... Germany frees killer of U.S. diver By CNN Correspondent Chris Burns Hammadi was convicted in 1989. (CNN) -- A Hezbollah militant sentenced to life in Germany for murdering a U.S. Navy diver during the 1985 hijacking of a U.S. jetliner has been freed, officials said. The German government denied on Tuesday the release was related to the freeing of a German hostage in Iraq. Mohammed Ali Hamadi was released Thursday and allowed to return to his native Lebanon on the next day, after qualifying for parole after 19 years in prison, said Ulrich Hermanski, spokesman for the North Rhine Wesphalia state justice ministry. "There was no spec…

I've gotten a few letters from a flying club in the local area. I'm wondering if this seems like a good deal to you. A C-172 rents for $80/hour (roughly) in this area so in my mind I'd only have to fly 1 hour a month to break even. $1000 up-front to buy a 1/36th share in the club (which can be resold later) $40/month dues C-150 - $39/hour wet C-172 - $52/hour wet Citabria - $49/hour wet

https://afjag.usaf.afpims.mil/Portals/77/AIB-Reports/2023/21AUG23 AMC C-17A JBER AIB Report.pdf Interesting report. GS MEP experiences DCS, onboard med crew diagnoses as hyperventilating and doesn't check on him pretty much the entirety of the return to base. Load has to convince them to inform the pilot but its passed to pilot as nothing big. Dude dies the following morning after sliding towards death overnight in the ER. Additionally, one of the 3 airdrop med techs popped hot for alcohol and THC......

I was in an at-fault accident almost 3 years ago when I tapped a car in front of me and the lady decided to start a lawsuit (a total BS frivolous lawsuit btw). My recruiter told me that he believes a current CIVIL lawsuit is disqualifying for pilot applicants. Does anyone know if this is true, and is it possible to get a waiver for it? Any advice is helpful.

OK so as much as I know about planes and aviation, I wasn't so sure about the answer to this one (given that I haven't flown yet). Anywho, I've heard that the rudder isn't used so much on larger jets, as opposed to props-can anyone clarify this, and why this is? Thanks.
