Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

https://militaryadvantage.military.com/2011/05/gates-floats-idea-of-pay-cuts/ That's right, the SECDEF has put cutting military pay and benefits on the table as a way to trim the $400 billion the administration is looking to eliminate from the DoD budget. This article only says he's open to the idea. No numbers are discussed in the course of this article. A pay freeze, I could cope with. I have a feeling that if you start cutting pay, you are going to seriously hurt retention. Just a guess. Sure, we're over our recruiting goals...but a couple years worth of pay cuts, and you'll have a force full of brand new recruits who get out as soon as their commitment is u…

Looked liked a blown tire and/or brake fire. Either way, what caught my attention was the fact that numerous people were evacuating the jet with their luggage. WTF? I'm sorry, if I'm evacuating from a jet that's on fire...I'm not stopping to grab shit. Fox News Link

Inactivist Party VI. Make Your Voice Heard Marching is for filthy hippies, writing your representatives is for toadies, and volunteerism is for college students seeking political-science credits. The only correct action is to complain about whatever bothers you, insistently and repeatedly, on internet message boards. And, as a member of the Inactivist Party, there is one main issue that you should focus on above all others: How society is filled with a bunch of whiners who never shut up.

That's some good public relations right there... Kind of nice that the LIPA provides a couple of toll free phone numbers just for people to call and let them know what they think at: 800-490-0025 or 800-966-4818.

This post is not about guns, but is not deserving of a new thread: Do any of you hunt with a bow? It may sound primitive, but it really makes a sport out of it. If you do, do you make your own or what do you use? What kind of string do you prefer?

This one was too funny and well written not to pass on to the rest of the baseops.net communuty. This could probably go in the "Leadership at the Deid" thread, or even the "I Hate Reflective Belts" thread, but since it is from Iraq and deals with combat showers, I figgered I'd piss the mods off and start a new thread for it. Names obscured to protect the innocent.

Sounds like a giant booze-fueled sex romp... https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2011/04/MONDAYair-force-sexual-relationships-rampant-in-wing-041811w/ and https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2011/04/MONDAY1air-force-ig-details-conduct-botchie-041811w/ I wasn't around during the Air Force of the 70s and 80s, but I imagine this environment was very similar to what took place back then. There has been a lot of this going around lately it seems like...I don't know if it is happening more or big blue is cracking down more, I am guessing it is the latter.

Some pretty condemning evidence against Mr. Mortenson over a lot of his supposed activities....maybe some here have crossed paths with him in Kraplakistan? https://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/04/15/60minutes/main20054397.shtml

What non-flying jobs are available with a starting salary over $100K? Considering VSP separations are on the horizon, I'm curious what VSP-approved folks are planning to do after the Air Force, especially since the airline hiring boom hasn't quite started? Are ex-officers really in demand in the corporate world as this Fortune Magazine article suggests? Is the Harvard/Wharton MBA a requisite? How valuable are other in-residence MBAs (Michigan, North Carolina, Arizona)? Anyone out there with 6-figure salary corporate success?

The Mighty BUFF (the world's greatest warplane) took flight for the first time April 15, 1952 flown by none other than Tex Johnston. Love it or hate it, you have to admit the BUFF is an amazing jet. Hasn't been in "the shit" much lately, but there still is some fight left in the old girl. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWtQ4lfU2vo
