Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

https://www.whalepower.com/drupal/?q=node/2 Thought you pilot-engineers would find this interesting. This company is looking mostly at applications for turbines, but if what they claim is true (less drag, greater lift, drastically increased stall angle) it could have some pretty interesting application to aircraft. Thursday, March 06, 2008 Whale-Inspired Wind Turbines Mimicking the bumps on humpback-whale fins could lead to more efficient wind turbines. By Tyler Hamilton Marine scientists have long suspected that humpback whales' incredible agility comes from the bumps on the leading edges of their flippers. Now Harvard University researchers hav…

I got this ink right after I got back from FIELD TRAINING to symbolize that, as a POC, I'm now part of the WORLD'S GREATEST AIR FORCE. The POWERFUL Asian owl symbolizes the AIRPOWER that my service can unleash upon our enemies, all across the world, the AIR FORCE symbol is self explanatory and CHARLIE - MIKE symbolizes CONTINUE MISSION, because that's what I'm going to do from the cockpit of my F-22, regardless of any obstacle that I may run into. A few individuals have construed that "Charlie - Mike" is an allusion to the two male models who showed me a great night in South Beach last Spring Break. They just don't understand AIR FORCE vocabulary, though, and I'm sure…

If you are not watching the Flyers vs Pens series, you should be. This game so far has been awesome. Staal and Kennedy have been impressive, so the role players are stepping up. As much as it pains me to say it, I think one of these teams will take the Cup.

  8. They updated with some high-res pictures...holy crap we have dismantled a great air force. 500 F-16's, 200 F-15's, 20 B-1's, A lot of Old B-52's and F-4's...kind of sad to look at.

As a female , I take exception to the sexually suggestive mini-movies that some member users are using on this forum- especially the "boob" ones! Why are these allowed?; I bet if I had a guy doing similar things with his private area on mine, it would be taken off...? Sure, some will say, if you don't like it don't participate in this forum. It's not just for horny guys is it???

Heard about the horrible news today that famous Warbird Pilot and Air Racer Howard Pardue died after his F8F crashed on takeoff. I remember his airplane from the time I was 5 years old going to AIrshows. His solo aerobatic routine to Phantom of the Opera was one of my favorite air show acts ever!

Beers to those who help me defeat the man! (Disclaimer, you must come to DC to collect, I will also pay up if I find myself TDY to your location) Below is a picture of my lovely bride captured by a DC Speed camera...in a freaking Work Zone (with no workers), so she got a $125.00 ticket. She swears she was not speeding and that she knows exactly where this camera is so she is always careful in that area. She is not a known lead foot and I tend to believe her as I was directly behind her in the same lane, (we were on the way to the beach for a week), and I did not get a ticket. I was going to just pay the freaking ticket when I noticed the other car in the pictu…

It's that time, I am within a year of my ADSC and starting to get nervous about job prospects. Obviously I could just post a resume to Monster.com or the like, but I am looking for advice from others who have made the jump back to civilian life. My bachelor credentials are really not that relative after 6+ years out of any practical school experience (EE). And I am a 12B so aviation wise not qualified for squat. I am really hoping that simply having been an officer and aviator with a current clearance will net me some luck, but I doubt monster.com is going to be much help aside from finding entry level jobs. Are there any good placement firms/resume posting hubs f…

  21. OK… so after my USAF retirement I really missed being around airplanes; and I was MX, not even a pilot, so I joined the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA, the guys who host OSH each year) local chapter. No, it’s not even close to being the same thing, but an airplane an airplane so it’ll do. It just so happens that we are remodeling an old avionics repair shop in the small hangar where the chapter is located into a… err… um… “pilot’s lounge”. While 95% of the members are civilian pilots we do have a lot of vets and this room will be very similar to those “heritage rooms” seen in many USAF flying squadrons but with a more civilian/general aviation slant. The pr…

  24. Like the UPT bio memo, only better! This is making the rounds on the ol' NIPR global email. The email forward chain I read has it bouncing all over the world...Pentagon, AFCENT, the ROK, Japan. It's everywhere. To me, it looks like she cut/pasted her MySpace page into a PowerPoint. Hilarious that she's serious, but sad that she's an officer with 2 degrees and she can't communicate intelligently. I guess a Master's degree ain't the true measure of an officer... EDIT: The file is too large to upload to BO.net. Click this link to download: https://www.4shared.c...Mmfvb/CJ-8.html

I know this could be a volatile one, but I'm looking for thoughts.
