Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I knew I felt a disturbance in the force a couple weeks ago: https://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/14/opinion/my-medical-choice.html?_r=0 I'm amazed that this was kept a secret in today's tabloid journalism environment.

Obama Giving Military Oath To 2 From UA By Carol Ann Alaimo, Arizona Daily Star Yousef Balooshi is starting his military career on top of the world. For an Army officer, it doesn't get much better than being sworn into service by the commander in chief. The ROTC cadet from the University of Arizona is one of two locals to whom President Obama will administer the oath of office during a visit to Tempe tonight. "It's an extreme honor. I never imagined this in my wildest dreams, said Balooshi, 22, who'll graduate from the UA with a degree in history later this week and is being commissioned as a second lieutenant. "It's pretty unbelievable," agreed fellow c…

Hey guys, this is my first post. I just transferred to the Air Force Academy after doing some civilian flying. I have about 240 hours (part 61 and 141) and it is all on paper logs. I have been thinking of changing over to an electronic logbook program (I would still maintain the paper logbook for checkrides and a backup. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with a program that is good at tracking military and civilian hours. I just got on the flying team here and will be flying a bit in T-41s and T-51s and hopefully will get a pilot slot and I want a program that will be flexible enough to handle all my flights. Here are some things that I would like: …

Almost put this in the WTF thread, but I think it deserves its own. Prophetic words from the Liberal Anti-War Law Professor and an enlightening view of his opinion of U.S. service members..."I think it is shameful that it is perceived as legitimate to solicit in an academic institution for support for men and women who have gone overseas to kill other human beings." https://abovethelaw.com/2011/11/law-professor-objects-to-solicitations-to-help-our-troops-in-afghanistan/

"The Obama administration has ordered an end to use of the phrase "Global War on Terror," a label adopted by the Bush administration shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday. In a memo sent this week from the Defense Department's office of security to Pentagon staffers, members were told, "this administration prefers to avoid using the term 'Long War' or 'Global War on Terror' [GWOT.] Please use 'Overseas Contingency Operation......yada yada yada....'" I'm glad that all you boys out there that are dropping bombs, passing gas and in general kicking a**, are just out there supporting contingency operations. Maybe I'm bei…

So just for fun (and without getting into anyone's gambling habits) whats everyone's pick for the game today? With more spygate stuff coming out this week, part of me says the Pats will come in and win by 4 scores. But I think I'd have to take the Giants to cover the 12 point spread. Either way, not flying tomorrow so its time to enjoy things tonight. When the hell are they going to move something that has reached national holiday status to Saturday night?

Any of you heroes interested in starting a Baseops fantasy football league this year? I can handle the details as commish but would need at least 8-12 players to make it work. I’m thinking $25 buy in (flexible on that if we get a consensus) played via the Sleeper app. If interested reply here and I can DM the details.

All, I'm just a casual LT but thought this was damn funny. Note: "JJ" Gagnon sent this out through his "Golf TOD" email list and I thought I would share it but all credit for it's hilarity go to him and the 71st FS LPA. Have fun in Creech dudes! Here is a question for all of you Dyess types. My wife and I are moving there soon and will be buying a house. The one we are purchasing has 1 1/2 acres of land and it is all undeveloped. There is no grass, fence, trees, or anything, it is all Texas dirt and weeds/rocks. Being from the Pacific NW I am used to alot of rain and alot of green. I am hearing that if I sod/hydro-mulch 1 1/2 acres it may all die because of failure to water. Whether it is from no rain in the summer or "water rationing" rules. My question is how successful have guys been at maintaining a nice healthy yard? How about a vegetable garden or orchard? What grows out there? Are the water table…

Looks like a new naval aviation movie is in the pipeline called "Speed and Angels" ...its a full length documentary and follows two pilots from flight school all the way to their first combat deployment... https://www.umlautfilms.com/site/jess_playe...eed_angels.html Jay's quote is classic :D "whoever thought up the idea of us landing on boats at night is an ASSHOLE...I HATE him" [ 25. Search was exhausted prior to post... I don't know about you guys but I'm pretty pumped about the super cool new patches as described below: Honestly what kind of BS is this? Don't give me a patch, give me a day off or a bonus. Not some ridiculous iron on pat on the back for not being a fat ass. I want the "mediocre, not dying any time soon" patch! On another note, here's hoping it doesn't become mandatory like a RB. One more way for the alterations and MCSS to make a buck I s'pose.

https://www.militarytimes.com/news/2012/08/ap-penn-state-riot-ends-dream-082712/ CliffsNotes version: ROTC cadet attends riot after Penn State's Board of Trustees fired Joe Paterno. He put his hands on a van that was already going over--he is charged the same as the people who purposefully flipped the van over. He decided to plead guilty to lesser misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and criminal mischief to avoid possibly being found guilty of a felony. Result: 30 days in jail, parole/probation, kicked out of Army ROTC, loss of $34k in scholarship money, one-semester suspension, and $8,500 in court costs, fines, and restitution.

Anyone see that Ford F-150 commercial this last Sunday? They supposedly dropped a truck out the back of a Herc attached to a bunch of cables and the truck proceeded to stop the aircraft. At first I was thought no f'ing way that would ever happen, but then I thought of all the false advertisement chit that could nail Ford if it wasn't true -- I still think there is NO way the AF would agree to that, maybe I'll bring up the lawsuit... True or not, I figured this would be a good time to hear some cool stories of other sweet stuff you crusty old guys have done.
