Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Folks, I'm in the process of cleaning up www.baseops.net. I need your help to add some nice aviation pics. I have plenty of the viper, but not a whole lot of other airframes. If you have some cool pics, PM me or link them in this forum and I'll try to include them in some way on the redesign. Thanks!

A few things come to mind here: 1 - Why did he wait until he slowed down to 50mph before he decided it might be a good idea to turn the vehicle off? Is there not a neutral on hybrids? 2 - HOLY SHIT! This guy got a damn PRIUS to go 94 mph! Kudos for the top speed attempt, but you still drive a Prius. I award you no points.

What do my colonial cousins make of this? A complete failure to contextualise things and act in a reasonable manner by Homeland Security, or a stupid mistake by the Tweeter and a proportionate response by HS? Caution on Twitter urged as tourists barred from US

I just had a missed meal sheet turned down by finance because they said I could have had an MRE. I had the sheet signed and all of the paperwork in order. Those bastards! I tried to find the reg but couldn't. I guess if that's the case, they could just use the MRE excuse from now on. I guess a 13 hr day of flying doesn't have the same perks it used to.

I've considered what I could do personally in the event this happens and have come up with a few palatable options but I've started to consider trying to roll a fair amount of liquid savings in dollars to a foreign currency in the event the worst happens. Besides this and maybe putting it into my mortgage, buying gold/silver, or purchasing property; I can't think of any other way to protect this part of my investments. Has anyone else come up with any ideas if they (take your pick on whom to blame) trigger a default?

I'm on the verge of saying enough...enough with pushing phony OPRs and awards packages, enough with uniform changes, enough with force shaping, enough with deployments, enough with TDYs (my several TDY's to Nellis are OK), enough with forced community service and frankly enough of big blue capitalizing on my patriotism and my pride to make me work long hours on stuff that just doesn't matter. I'm up for my primary board next year, but was told bluntly that I have little chance of getting a DP. Although I have IDE and a BS masters complete without the DP I'm doubtful of my chances. I'd always planned on retiring but with the selective continuation fiasco of this year t…

This post is not about guns, but is not deserving of a new thread: Do any of you hunt with a bow? It may sound primitive, but it really makes a sport out of it. If you do, do you make your own or what do you use? What kind of string do you prefer?

I've been in the USAF for a while. I'm proud of my service and those I serve with. However, as in most corporate cultures "back stabbing" does exist in the Air Force. In an effort to gain ground on career advancement and promotion, I've never seen a culture (ours) so overwhelmed with such blasphemous behavior. The thought that I share a cockpit with such low lives, who will spread vicious rumors and engage in character assassination - then look you straight in the eye and lie about it. I must add that I'm not saying this about our entire force, but witness it once, twice multiple times in your career and you can't help but build a sense of insecurity about those you work …

Pentagon’s Lightning Gun Sold for Scraps on eBay All of which would make for a funny little story, if that buyer didn’t discover that the multimillion dollar “Joint Improvised Explosive Device Neutralizers,” or JINs, were kluged together from third-rate commercial electronics, and controlled by open Wi-Fi signals. In other words, the Pentagon didn’t just overpay for a flawed weapon. On the off-chance the JIN ever worked, the insurgents could control it, too.
