I received this email several months back at my .mil address. Thought i'd share with the folks here since you all are so honest and have been there and done that, therefore I think this is the best place for me to get input. I'm going into my sophomore year so the timing is perfect. I was already considering dropping ROTC and just finding a unit and going the OTS route but this sounds like much too sweet of a deal to pass up. The reserves also have a program like this and both of them are in their infancy so i'm not too sure a ton of commanders are aware of this yet. All the guys I've talked to (including current UPT) tell me how awesome guard flying is and i'm aware of …

Hi folks, I'm currently starting my final year of college also seriously considering retaking my AFOQT to try and improve my PCSM. AS of the moment, I am planning on commissioning FY18, but that may all change. Hear me out. I'm not really one to be tact so I'll just say this the best that I know how. At the moment, I have an RPA slot and as glamorous as the future of this career looks, it's not something I think I want for myself. That whole idea of flying in a box, disconnected from everything that has defined flying for the past century is something I am still not sure about. As of right now, my PCSM is at a 59. I've taken the TBAS twice and AFOQT onc…

Right now I am 75% with my associates at Community College. The University that's close to me does have AF ROTC. What does ROTC usually look for, regarding transfers? If a Pilot Slot is my goal would being a Community College student hurt me compared to someone who directly attended a Four Year College directly out of high school? Also what GPA is considered ideal. Right now I am earning my Business Associates and have a 3.5 GPA. Is this low too? (I can still bring it up with my current classes and the last 5 I will take next year). This is probably asked a lot but how does the pilot selection process work for ROTC? I've tried Googling around and most of the answers …

I am looking into joining AFROTC in the fall; however, since I will be a crosstown student and I will have the option of deciding between USC (Detachment 060) and LMU (Detachment 040). I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to pick the most suitable detachment?

I am a junior in High-School, and I am definately want to become an officer in the Air Force(pilot). MY dad is a 73' USAFA grad and my brother just commisioned out of ROTC and is heading to ENJJPT. Based on both my fathers and brothers experiences, I am leaning towards ROTC. I am confident that I have a good shot at both ROTC scholarship and Academy acceptance (4.0, sports, eagle scout). I just want to hear some pro's and con's about the Academy and ROTC. Thanks.

Helping to spread the word that the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots (River Rats) provide scholarships to full time students, both undergrad and grad. Believe it or not, we are having a hard time getting enough applicants each year to maintain our status with the CFC and 501©(3) status. Eligibility falls into two categories: 1) Kinship Requirement: Scholarship grant recipients must be immediate dependent (legal son, daughter or spouse) of: a) A U.S. aircrew member listed as Killed in Action (KIA) or Missing in Action (MIA) from any combat situation involving U.S. military from August 1964 (Vietnam Era) through the present; or b) A military aircrew member killed as t…

Hey guys so im 17 years old and I've always wanted to be a fighter pilot, ive been doing my research and i had a plan layed out but im no too sure about it; pretty much i want to devise a solid plan that will maximize my chances of getting a pilot slot. Heres my plan -first join the reserves to help with school and to set me apart from the other cadets in my future detachment,(will this be a problem with rotc involvement?)(and should i do this/will it hurt me more than help?) -once im done with basic and tech, im obviously going to university but heres my problem, and it ties in with my whole reserves plan because of location ( will attending a crosstown university hur…

Any ROTC cadets out there: Has the AF put out info on what the process is to gain your reserve commission in the event you take them up on their recent offer to not go the Regular active duty route? I am anticipating that after graduation in May there will probably be some ex-cadets looking to rush various guard/reserve units in the hopes of having a shot at flying training or at least a career of some sort with the ARC.

Apparently there was a very high selection rate for cadets going to Field Training this year (~92% at my detachment), is it possible that there will be a similar occurrence for rated/pilot slots as well?

Pretty sure field training for this summer, 2014, has been cut short from 28 days to 22-23? What are your opinions? Is this too short? Good? Bad? I appreciate if you compare your own military training to this summers training.

Just got a heads up from our cadre that monthly cadet stipends will be lowered by $50 for all year groups starting in the fall. This applies to all contracted cadets, not just the new people who are being awarded scholarships this FY. AS100 - $250 AS200 - $300 AS300 - $350 AS400 - $450 Also, I heard a rumor that Air Univ wants to drop the original FT slots number from 2200 to 1500 this year. Not sure if its going to happen but apparently thats the amount they're looking at. Bad times ahead...

I found this website when doing a little intel gathering for the TBAS. I don't think its considered test compromising since its just practice for what already well known about the test. https://www.proprofs.com/flashcards/story.php?title=_36014 Maybe some people might find it useful. I have a question though. I don't have any problem with the questions where the "UAV" is heading in one set Direction, be it N S E or W. Thats fairly easy. But when the "UAV" is heading say "NW" and they ask "Find the SOUTH" parking lot. Well... Actually wouldn't there be two "S" parking lots? A SW and SE? How are you supposed to know which one is the one they want?

Starting this semester, I'm going to be enrolling in AFROTC and competing for a scholarship/to get contracted. I am looking for any advice from those who have "been there done that" on what to do in order to stand out to the cadre and help my chances of getting a scholarship- and ultimately a pilot slot. If it makes any difference, I will be entering this semester as a sophomore with a 3.88 GPA, my major is Political Science, and I have a Private Pilot’s License. I did a search but didn't find a complete answer to my question, so if this information has been posted somewhere please flame me and I will look harder.

Hello, just curious as to who all recieved a rated slot that was in Computer or Electrical Engineering. I have been told that only a select percentage of these majors were even allowed to compete, due to the needs of Big Blue. I was not selected (although cadre expected I would be selected) and wanted to see who else was/was not. Also, if anyone knows the averages for these selects, that would be appreciated as well. If you are in these majors and recieved a slot, please post your stats. If you did not recieve a slot, post yours as well. -Thanks

Today, we were briefed on new scholarships the Air Force is offering: if you're interested, qualified and are selected, you will agree to becoming a CSO or ABM and will therefore go on scholarship and have priority for field training selection (like some of the tech majors). The other side of that is you're locked in to one of those two AFSCs; you don't have the option of applying for other rated or non-rated career fields after field training. Has anyone else heard of this? What do you all think? Worth shooting for?

I am applying for a ASCP and SOAR scholarship and I am stuck on a certain section of the AF IMT 56. I am at the section where it asks to list how many at what speeding tickets or traffic violations I have had in the past. I know ive hade tickets before, but its been almost 5 years now and I cant remember where and when they occurred. Can someone tell me how and where they got the information to fill out this section of the AF IMT 56? Thanks!

Anyone get accepted for ASCP/SOAR and attend a cross-town community college while enrolled in a AFROTC before transferring over to a university to enter POC and earn their commission? One of the requirements to qualify for these two scholarships are: Be admitted to a school offering Air Force ROTC (including cross-town schools) and the academic major you desire to study. I plan on applying to a cross-town school such as a community college because its easier to get into and I wont have to take the SAT's because i have graded college work. I am just curious if anyone has gone this rout before using an enlisted commissioning scholarship. Thanks in advance!
