What's wrong with the Air Force?

Recommended Posts

Whoa sparky, calm down. The linked story literally had nothing in it calling out a conspiracy, even going so far as to say it was due purely to “inattention.” I think the point of posting it was that even the commander in chief’s office made one of the same mistakes that pisses off a lot of Air Force pilots. How can we hold orgs like PA to a higher standard if the CiC’s office does the same thing? Also, I’m positive this would have been linked if Biden or Clinton had done it.

https://www.defensenews.com/digital-show-dailies/air-force-association/2020/09/14/the-air-force-launched-a-new-eseries-aircraft-designation-the-internet-had-questions/

Quote

Aircraft, satellites and other weapons that are designed using digital engineering will be designated as part of the Air Force’s new “eSeries” and receive the prefix “e," Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett announced Monday.

The move is mean to “inspire companies to embrace the possibilities embraced by digital engineering,” Barrett said during a Sept. 14 speech at the Air Force Association’s Air, Space and Cyber conference.

Service leaders — including Barrett and Air Force acquisition exec Will Roper — see digital engineering as a key enabler to reduce the cost and time needed to develop new weapon systems, using virtual modeling and simulation tools to design and test the product before a physical prototype is produced.

Boeing’s T-7A Red Hawk trainer jet will be the first aircraft to receive the new eSeries designator, Barrett said.

“The eT-7 is just the first in our vision of a long line of e-planes and e-sats,” she said. “For 73 years, the entire history of the Air Force, X-planes have represented technological innovation. Today, the e-plane and e-sat will join them in making history and ensuring airmen and space professionals have modern tools to protect our nation.”

...

The service also noted that the "e" designator is temporary and that “the program office will request the aircraft mission design series update to drop [the] 'e' [designator]” once the program moves into production, Stefanek said.

Isn't this exactly what the "X" and "Y" MDS prefixes were? Just call it a YT-7 and be done. This seems like pandering to innovation with a few more buzzwords thrown in.

What confusing is that the "E" prefix already was in use for aircraft and has been for a while.

What’s your fucking point? This was already posted a while back in reference to mortuary affairs, the original source of the patch.  Classic PA mixup but in true leftist media fashion blow it up into some Trump conspiracy.

My point right now is you might need to go smoke a joint bro 😂

The Thunderbirds looks a lot bluer than I remember.

No..."X" planes are research aircraft, and "Y" aircraft are/were prototypes of aircraft intended for production.

And the designation is "e" not "E".

The idiocy is not limited to just the AF, it has spread to the GCCs as well.

I honestly feel bad for the planners on staff. Lord know how much time/effort they put in to putting these ops together to have PA fuvk away the messaging right off the bat.

Lol... I mean to be fair, the number convention would be confusing if you had no idea about planes at all. That’s so ridiculous though

Ah, I clicked on the link and the picture was fixed. The original picture was of a KC-135 cockpit and the tag line was something like "B-52 crew prepares for a flight".

Apparently no one in the Air Force actually works with aircraft that are owned by the Air Force...

Doesn't surprise me, most base commanders hate having to spend money on maintenance of the aerodrome, had one thought it would be a good idea to get rid of the arresting cable gear and save a whole 100k a year and make fighters going cross country find another base to IFE at when they had no hydraulics. Another personalist making operational decisions.
