May 31, 20187 yr Just got the eligibility email on the active duty side. So I guess it’s officially released. My tier bumped up $500/yr from the initial PSDM so looks like they made adjustments.

June 1, 20187 yr So, I’m tracking the initial 25% tax. But, with regard to these lump sum options, does the remaining cash count against you as income during tax season? Concern would be with getting pushed to higher tax brackets.

June 2, 20187 yr Surprised at how many people don’t understand this. More importantly, Social Security stops after ~130k in income. Based on my rough math, with the lump sum I may be paying an extra 2% in federal taxes on 35k of my income, but saving 6% on 70k of it.

If you took the bonus prior to FY17 and it has not expired, you can renegotiate your contract. Problem is that it has to be a minimum of 3 years and is only for your current contract payout. None of the bonus is “worth it”, in terms of an incentive to stay on active duty longer than you otherwise would have, with money being the motivating factor. It’s certainly free money for those who were going to stay anyway, though. The only reason it doesn’t go lower, or go away, is so that management can point to the low take rates in a couple years to help justify their request for stop loss.

Not just a year sign up extension for the same price. I haven’t seen These new programs. Has anyone else? And that goldfien even says that money isn’t the problem. Reading between the lines he blames sq cc’s. Thoughts?
June 12, 20187 yr I think Goldfein is genuine in his desire to revitalize the squadrons. However, I think he undervalues the impact a real bonus would have on retention.

June 12, 20187 yr Goldfien thinks we are all volunteers and thus it doesn’t matter if we are pilots or not. Hence bonuses won’t really matter. We want to be motivated to follow non monetarily. At least that what his quotes seem to point at.
