A realist asks why taxes are being cut and not sustained or increased.

The rest of the flybys have already been covered. But your answer right here demonstrates the D’s base misunderstanding of finances. “But more taxes will fix it!” and never “hey we should stop spending like drunken sailors buying absolutely stupid shit.” Until you guys can understand basic finances my children understand, this is a useless discussion.

$4 Trillion added to the deficit!?  So next FY year we’ll see a $6 Trillion deficit!?  Damn.

Yep. $20T actually.

Explain very clearly how this plan reduces deficits or improves our economic situation. It’s apparently very simple for you to see, so you can just demonstrate your basic financial knowledge to explain how decreasing “income” while not substantially decreasing “expenses” is going to save us.

Cleared hot to use a 5 year time scale or a 10 year timescale. You’re a genius on this and I just really need to get your understanding in my brain because it is so simple.

For the record I don’t disagree with cutting entitlements and have never said anything like that. Sure, cut the ones that make sense (I wouldn’t cut kids food though, which is what is happening). Money you have = intakes - outtakes. Decreasing intakes to benefit the wealthy seems to be a very questionable decision.

I wasn’t referring to just the BBB, I’m speaking generally about avoiding the fiscal cliff - the answer is not more taxes, it’s stop spending ludicrous amounts of money on dumb shit. Though I’m glad to hear you say you’re down with cutting entitlements (e.g. where the vast majority of “the dumb shit” resides). The point I made above, and am making now, is large cuts in entitlements is the only answer that moves the needle enough. Until we do that, everything else is par for the course noise, including this bill.

Entitlements are sinking us.

Yep. Entitlements are the third rail of American political life. Eventually the music is gonna stop. I've just accepted the fact that as a 25 year old, I will never live to receive social security, pensions, etc. I'm planning accordingly, at least.

Nope. I understand, and share, many of Elon’s frustrations. But, a 3rd party isn’t going to solve those issues. Fundamental change has to occur amongst the voter population to generate meaningful change for the primary thing Elon is most pissed off about - the deficit. Until that happens (likely only when voters’ hands are forced), congress will do nothing meaningful to significantly impact that issue, regardless of party affiliation.

Anyone here joining Musk's new American party?  What if he gave every kid a $3k savings acct?

No, because as screwed up as the GOP is right now, a third party under Elon would simply hand power to the DNC.  Given the absolute soulless depravity of modern democrats, our nation would not survive.

Epstein list supposed to be released in full today, will be interesting to see how much oxygen that consumes and who is caught up in the web.  One of the flight trackers on X was monitoring to see how many business jets left the country last night.

Spot on.

It is interesting to consider what would happen if a right wing third party popped up in our system.  As powerful as Elon is, I don’t think he would get the support he is anticipating.  Republicans aren’t pulling chocks from camp Trump and the radical wing of the Democratic Party was just burning up Teslas and calling him a Nazi, all while being supported by some in democratic leadership.

What’s easier to see playing out is the democrat party continuing to spiral into fractured irrelevance.  By every measure, the Democrat party is utterly failing.  Hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing or have fled from blue states to red, the party is polling positively in the low twenties, they’re losing in court on nearly every issue, something like 90-95% of counties in the country shifted right during the last election, donations to the DNC are drying up, more and more prominent people are switching party affiliation, Trump won all 7 swing states, the Joy Reids of the world are getting fired and the legacy media is on life support, etc.

My point is, I can see the Democratic Party splitting (it may have already) before the Republican Party.  I truly believe that the vast vast majority of Americans are done with the radical, irrational and crazy social experiments that the democrats represent.  That is all they have left and instead of reading the room, they double down.  I’m genuinely interested to see how this plays out.  We can’t have one party rule in this country.  We need two healthy parties  to balance power.  I hope the democrats can figure their problems out and rebuild into something more moderate.

The swamp is deep, that list would have destroyed both sides.  It really sucks they are going to get away with it.

While I don't believe them for a second, if this is the path they're going to choose, so be it.

In that case, I'd like the investigation on Jeffrey Epstein to pivot to the question of: Where the fuck did he get all that money?  That always seems to be lost in the breathless discussion about supposed "lists."  Dude was a former teacher who pivoted to finance, and by all accounts, was pretty lousy at it.  But somehow, he amassed a fortune north of a half billion dollars, to include properties all over the globe.

It's pretty clear he didn't get this money from legitimate financial trading.  There is strong evidence that he had financial backing from someone or some entity.

Where did he get he money?  Who bankrolled Epstein?  To what end?  Those are the questions I'd like answered.

There is an interesting conspiracy theory that his identity and placement/funding was entirely created to allow for future US government exploitation and control over his clients.

Essentially a CIA “kompromat” of placed world leaders and economic stakeholders.

There is no list and Epstein killed himself while the camera was inoperable.

Come on guys (sounds gay if you close your eyes and say that), we can trust the government.

The DNC...I don't get it...I just don't understand this kind of hate coming from a doctor...a pediatrician at that....at least 28 kids have been killed in this tragedy.  I don't care what side of the aisle you sit on just try to be a decent human.

There’s always OnlyFans. The same people telling me it’s ok to make fun of Texans seem to be the same people telling me that sex work is real work, so she should be all set.

How vain of him.  Outrageous.  What a beta.  Next thing you know, he’ll graduate to caking bright orange makeup on his face, or maybe wearing eyeliner like JD Vance.
