Multicam 2 piece flightsuits

I assume next week I'll be writing a form 847 or creating a wear policy. Personally, I wish we could choose which person to person (I wear a pencil patch on my left that we have made overseas.) If anyone has thoughts on rules I should write in, please let me know.

Here's my suggestion:

"Under no circumstances shall someone not authorized to wear a flightsuit speak to someone wearing a flightsuit regarding the proper wear of a flightsuit or patches. Penalty shall be immediate reduction in grade to E-8 and/or 30 lashes with the non flightsuit wearer's reflective belt at the discretion of the flightsuit wearer."

Amended to read: "additionally penalties include reduction to E Zero, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, 30 days TCN escort duty, 10 days added to current tour, 50 yd. penalty & loss of down on next play. Harsher penalties to be considered if question asker is aircraft maintenance and really should know better than to even worry about such minor crap when there are much bigger fish to fry"

Just curious why you want the multi-cam. I've got 2 and don't like it. Fabric is heavier than the ABU 2 piece, which is what I prefer to wear down range.

Ugh...That's the whole reason I like the 2 Piece ABU one. They are nice and thin, and the top comes off of course! Oh that and it pisses off Chiefs. At one deployed location the looks we were getting after we walked into the chow hall here priceless...it was a collective "those can't be real uniforms so we need to say something." Assclowns...

Have you tried to get the base commander to write a letter but actually include the AF in the mulit-cam? Shindand just published one form the commanders officer to cover all branches, but they did not mention the AF and muli-tcam. As to what Brock said, I would advise against that. Thumbing your nose at somebody just to flaunt military authority is not a good idea. Especially when you may need their help later. Doing so places your commander in a position where he has nothing to fight the important battles. I see plenty of AF guys wearing the multi-cam ground set here across from Habib's flight school. They wear it correctly and nobody says anything to them.

TQ,

Not to get into a pissing contest but my point is this: the Air Force has it's own TFDU. They should then have guidlines to how it is worn. As an Army aviator you should be well aware of some SGM, usually of the aviation variety getting into your s%#t about how you wear your A2CU. As you now there was no real quidlines for it until ALARACT 177/2010 came out. About 4 years after the fact.

My point being some SGM or anyone with a few days in the Army should be able to tell the difference between and Air Force and Army bubba, be it the leather name tag on the uniform, the flag on the left side or if that isn't enough the US Air Force over the left pocket.

Unless you're in a Helo, why would you want to wear something heavier downrange?

Multicam has become the new "cool" thing; all the cool cats started wearing it and now everyone and their mom want to. Like units trying to get it so they can feel like they're on the special side of things. If you're not needing to be camoflaged in your daily work, why wear it?

A) I've worn ones that aren't any heavier than my ABU-color two-piece, so that's not a universal downside. They also had a better pocket layout in my opinion.

B) I don't need to be camouflaged in the airplane, no one does (they're generally grey on the inside anyways), but I sure as hell want to have the best camoflauge available if, god forbid, the one little spinner carrying my ass around decides to sh*t the bed over a bad place. Same goes for any dude flying over hostile territory. If I was in charge I'd want to give every aircrew the absolute best uniform for a bailout/evasion situation as possible depending on what they fly (i.e. one-piece or two). Why have an inferior uniform when good ones are right on the freakin' shelf?

Just an update for anyone interested..

I gathered every policy letter and reg I could get ahold of, from ACC, AFCENT, CSAF, etc. FWIW, any airmen in a non-ejection aircraft operating under AFCENT, including Africa, may wear the 2 piece Multi-Cam. Still, to make sure we don't get hosed, we are presenting the case to AFSOC leadership and awaiting their final decision - obviously this was all in discussion before I got involved though.

The 2 piece Multi-Cam flight suit is lighter than the regular Multi-Cam, but I still plan on washing it 17 times before I deploy. If nothing else, it's stiffer than the ABU 2 piece. If anyone needs help getting these or other uniforms, PM me and I can try to help give you the lowdown or put you in contact with some folks that can rush deliver.

My point (as a current army medevac commander assigned to a AC unit in country) is that if these are the battles you choose to fight, then your commander will have no credibility when it comes to preventing (UCMJ action, losing someone’s PC order etc....). Something I learned when I was enlisted in the AF. It is not always what they can't do to you, it is what they can.

Well this has turned into a big thread jack. All I'm saying is if it doesn't concern you _____ ( fill in the blank), then stay in your lane. Read the shoe clerk thread on this sight. Better yet, read Quad A from a few months ago. In the NCO section there is a rant on how my ( aviators) standards in the aircraft will somehow suffer if my uniform isn't worn to standard. I guess at over 5000 hours TT and 1000 plus combat time I've just gotten real lucky.

Certain communities in the Army don't participate on the " rat turd pole vaulting team", they have bigger fish to fry. The rest of the army, Aviation in particualr could learn a few things from them.

I toed the party line during my 15 years on active duty. I got out two days before I was to pin on W-4. I figured I'd rather buy time back and work for the federal government and not have to deal with that crap fulltime. Rant/thread jack complete.

Good on the Air Force bubbas for getting something they asked for in certain communities.

Latest RUMINT...

No official word yet, but I recommend no one spend any money on the 2 piece Multi-Cam flightsuit. It sounds like the big meeting about this ended with AFSOC, or at least our wing/ group not wanting to outfit 2000+ airmen in this uniform, so they want to stick with the ABU 2 piece. I'm holding onto the Multi-Cams in case this is revisited, and I can give them out to guys going out with a ground unit, but I'm awaiting the official word telling me to chill out.

Our entire SQ.. including maintenance.. have multicams now. Loadmasters love it, desk jockeys love it, pilots.. hit or miss. For pilots, its in the laundry rotation and when its clean it gets worn just like good ol' pajamas.

Same with our deployed Herk squadron. EOG funded it.

My observations are similar to the above.

To me, the pilots that really went nuts over the multicams were those dudes who think they are some kind of full-up door kicker just because they were on the same freq or ramp as spec ops dudes, or if they wore multicams. You know the type.

If you like them, more power to you.

Wait, are you saying that even though I have the same color uniform, same plate carrier with the same knife attached to it and a few grenade pouches that I use to hold my cell phone and some cliff bars, on the same ramp and talking on the same frequency. I am not a full-up door kicker special ops fighter pilot?

That just doesn’t seem right.

Also, I have no idea why they call those other pouches “M-4 Magazine Holders” They hold Rip Its and bottled water just fine.

Add a couple hundred bucks spent at rangerjoes.com on sweet moto-tactical multicam accessories and you're spot on.

Why would anyone want to wear anything but pajamas? The two piece OCP Flight suit looks freakin' gay.

Because they're 10x more functional than pajamas, for non-fighter types.

We'll keep you in mind for the next desert fashion show contest.
