At least he's straight forward with his beliefs so people don't have to assume in what he would vote for, I'd have to say that's better than most politicians:

"Our freedom is at risk as the administration in Washington drives us towards socialism! "

Honestly, I was quite impressed with this article O'Grady wrote, despite the rhetoric...

Mayors Against Illegal Guns True Agenda is Anti-Gun

A Guest Blog from Scott O'Grady

As I crouched behind enemy lines in Bosnia after my F-16 was shot down more than a decade ago, I promised myself that when rescued, I would always speak out when the values we hold dear as Americans are threatened. Through the years, I have kept that promise.

There is an organization whose primary agenda is anti-gun, Mayors Against Illegal Guns and one of their members is a candidate to replace U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson is Houston Mayor Bill White. Mr. White opposes our Second Amendment right to bear arms.

It’s website says “As Mayors, our highest responsibility is to enforce the law and to protect the people we serve,” however eight current members find themselves in trouble with the law in their respective cities.

Mayor’s Against Illegal Guns is headed by liberal mayors Mike Bloomberg of New York and Tom Menino of Boston. Their mission is to put pressure on the federal government and state legislatures to strengthen anti-gun laws. White and the other mayors want to prohibit guns from entering the hands of law-abiding gun owners.

Some mayors who originally joined this group resigned when they discovered its true agenda. According to media reports Alaska’s Mark Begich, currently a U.S. Senator, told his hometown newspaper: “I recently withdrew my name from the coalition after initially agreeing to sign on. I am concerned the coalition is working on issues that conflict with the beliefs we share in Alaska about legal gun ownership." (Begich, "Letters: Guarding Second Amendment rights was not a part of mayors' coalition," Anchorage Daily News, 2/4/2007) As you can see, when leaders see the true mission of the organization, they are not staying on board.

All Americans should be concerned about any politician who doesn’t strongly support a law-abiding individual’s right to bear arms because this Constitutional right should not be infringed. Bill White, or any politician for that matter, who doesn’t fully support the Second Amendment as an individual right should not hold public office at any level.

I will always be a public proponent of our Constitutional rights, especially when it comes to defending our right to bear arms as citizens. Please join me in my effort to inform all voters, not just in the Texas Senate Race, about the importance of our Second Amendment Rights. We must unite in our opposition to candidates, such as Bill White, who do not agree with us regarding the right to bear arms.

Scott O’Grady,

Strong Proponent of the Second Amendment

Former NRA Board Member

Bosnian War Survivor

"Strong Proponent of the Second Amendment" I like; but "Bosnian War Survivor?" Give me a fucking break! Still, I will give him credit for being on the correct side of this issue!

Cheers! M2

Well then if he just jacked up the CSAR.. who can put themselves in his shoes that can say 100% they would do different?

On a side note: From what I have been told about that Campaign they were having issues with the pilots that were in combat one day and home the next, to the point they brought in a different unit.

That concept of seems to have been lost in the predator community, where we can see guys get BLASTED and go hug the wife.

Me. I can say 100% that I would not greet the para-rescue team with my M9 waving around.

I'm normally not one to stir up a bunch of drama but I remember reading somewhere that he charges 15 grand to speak at events, and if that's true I have no respect. War experience isn't something to capitalize on just for talking about it. I hope he wasn't paid for this: http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/news/local/2015/04/24/famed-air-force-pilot-tells-boy-scouts-wartime-survival/26285351/

We heard plenty about this guy, even in Army SERE.

If people/groups want to pay him $15K to speak, who can blame him for charging/taking it?--he's no longer in the military. Now if he would turn down speaking to let's say, a civil air patrol function because they couldn't pay him, then I agree that's showing some poor class. In the end, it's his story, and as long as he's not divulging classified info or straight up lying/hurting people, then who cares? I wouldn't pay to hear him speak but that's just me. People in the know are aware of his story and his mistakes/buffoonery...in the end, the guy still did what over 90% of the country never has done or will do. In today's society/culture, there are a lot more things fvcking up this country than Scott O'Grady.

Hey, if Hillary can ask a quarter million to spew her vile, then why shouldn't O'Grady get his paycheck? Plus, isn't he an ordained minister these days?!? Wikipedia says he got a master's degree in biblical studies at Dallas Theological Seminary.

Anyone know if he still flies in the Reserves?

I picked this guy for an AFROTC writing assignment. Criteria was how an AF leader embodied one of the core values. Honestly had a hard time finding them and after reading this thread I cringe at the mental gymnastics i had to perform to shoehorn the paper.

The AFROTC commander was a Viper driver too.

if only he'd had the core values, he'd have been excellent in all he did and we wouldn't be talking about him

from the wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_O%27Grady#Shootdown

"It also allowed him time to figure out how to operate the radio, since because of not paying attention during pilot training sessions he was unfamiliar with it."

The guy gets a bad rap from SERE guys who dedicate their entire careers to figuring out how they're going to evade. Sounds like he may have had a bad reputation in his F-16 community, but whenever someone talks about all the things this guy screwed up during his evasion and rescue I just remind myself that he never got caught and returned more or less safe. More than a lot of guys can say.

Having lost many a friend, had several as Hilton members, and had a few that were fortunate enough to evade and escape (one twice). Now losing them to time, and now that I am getting older and grayer, I am less inclined to pass judgement. As I would have 40+ years ago before many of you were born. Just happy to be here.

Better lucky than good remains a valid technique.
