This was not meant as a humble brag. The FM programs are a total gamble. I watched my buddies in 2010 throw in for VSP only to be told after the fact that pilots were no longer being considered for the program (ouch). I was in the armpit of Oklahoma when the 2014 FM program rolled out. I was within a year of my commitment and had nothing to lose putting in for VSP. Turns out AFPC decided to clear house for my year group (plus or minus a few years). If this all comes down again, I highly suggest you weigh your options carefully. The airlines are stagnate right now. That can change in a heartbeat, but AFPC is not afraid to flash a sweet deal in your face and then pull it back in a heart beat. Hit up your local Guard unit. With all of the recent AFFORGEN changes, we're seeing a a lot of outflow of experience in my MWS. Nice work, Air Force. It was glorious. Nearly six figures to leave AD just as Delta and SWA were cracking open the spigots. It was a calculated risk after the shit show of 2010/11 force management program, but it paid off. YMMV in 2025.

Interesting take - If you want to talk time-wasting programs look at the AF. I assume you've participated in the Force Management process over the years. Did you fill out an RRF for a retention board? I went through three in less than ten years on AD. Thank God for the blanket VSP approval in my AFSC on the last round. As a Guardsman, the OPR (OPB now?) process is a waste of millions of people's time (ratee/rater/senior rater/admin staff). I just really don't see how this is a burden on anyone to show that your .gov e-mail actually has a person attached to it.

Hard to tell from that video. A flaps up landing is a non-normal (emergency) procedure in most big jets. I would assume there would have been some discussion with ATC if they did have some sort of mechanical issue.
