Dude exactly, when the E-9s push this crap, especially in a deployed environment, I tell them I assume that everything else must be going great, otherwise you have your priorities completely jacked up. When you are an E-9 or Commander, you only have so many “swings at the bat” to make meaningful impact, if you just wasted it on uniform wear then… Finally, and this instance is proof, E-9s only push this crap because they are enabled by their Commanders. Finally, I’m all about correcting folks if they look like a bag of a$$ in uniform, that doesn’t need command level guidance especially from the CSAF.

Agreed with most except 1-2. For 1: sounds a lot like offloading the staff work to the wings (already happens and it’s a detraction). Staffs exist not just to support the commander but to enable down the chain units to focus on tactical and operational mission tasks. A good staff allows Wings and below to get after the mission and advance the ball. I want smart operationally minded bros on the staff getting after the strategic problems and the admin that follows so the wings can focus on the mission. For 2: How many toxic 0-6 commanders have you had? I don’t want Wing Kings to have that much power over the promotion of an officer. Current system is not perfect but at least adds some impartiality to the mix.

I’ve come to expect that the only people who will have serious issues with the American leadership the next four years (just like 2017-2021) will be our adversaries like China, Russia, Iran, terrorist groups like ISIS, transgenders, illegal immigrants, far left lunatics like Antifa and Black Lives Matter, and decrypt democratic leadership in failing states like California and New York.

When Shirts and Chiefs are on about uniform standards, my assumption is that everything else in the unit including the morale and welfare of the troops is running swimmingly. If that’s not the case, those Shirts and Chiefs should lean forward and choke themselves.

I for one would welcome shrinking the Joint Staff and OSD. I’m all about civilian control of the military but the number of unelected / unappointed civilian SES types running the place amok has got to end. Cut down on the number of JDAL billets as well, send those officers to the COCOMs and MAJCOMs, better yet back to the tactical level where that experience is really hurting. The Joint Staff was always supposed to be advisory and an arbitrator between COCOMs; my guess is Milley contributed to the Joint Staff’s inability to help itself and perform its function due to Milley being a micromanager and just a general POS.
