USAF / USA / USN / USMC Vision
I'd say if you have the means and really want better vision, not just as a means to get a pilot slot, then do it. Best case, you score an interview and get selected. By the time it takes for your packet to go through NGB and get dates for your FCI, you would probably be very close to being over the wait period. Deaddebate can correct if needed, but I thought you had to have a minimum of 6 months between surgery and your FCI.

Maybe the class registrar?

Columbus AFB Information
Capital, State, and Magnolia are all on base. Audobon Cove is an off base location. If you are looking for on base, the Cove is a non-factor.

Really? Although with some of the shit they were throwing around in their monthly newsletter, it's not too far out of the realm of possibilities. Eh, 'em. Stay somewhere else.

Columbus AFB Information
Audobon Cove was pretty nice. Lots of studs so there were always places to drink and it was an easy walk back to your own house. Pool was great in the summertime but management changed halfway through my time there, and they got a little more strict with drinking at the pool.

AMS (Academy of Military Science) Questions
It should be about $400 when all said and done if you don't find a used one. Little nugget of info, try and find a way to borrow someone's 2d Lt shoulder boards. There is no good reason to buy a set of $46 boards when you are only going to have them for 2 years. I saw mixed at AMS. I was on Title 10, while I saw a lot of people on Title 32. Not sure if it was related to this or not, but everyone that was going for a rated slot was on Title 10 while some of the other people going for Mx Officer/Wx Officer were on Title 32, but YMMV.

Yes remove your Prior E rank. You wear OC rank on your collar if you are in a leadership position.

Good military/aviation books
So I'm sitting here re-watching The Pacific on HBO and wanted to know if anyone had read the two memoirs that it was primarily based on, and if they are worth the read. With the Old Breed:At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Sledge Helmet For My Pillow by Robert Leckie

Anyone know 2013 turnaround time on Security Clearances?
My intel unit kept me up to date as to when things were sent away and processed.

AMS (Academy of Military Science) Questions
Just my .02¢, but I took a computer with me in 2011 and didn't use it at all. It just took up extra space in my security drawer. The CD-RW's are definitely helpful with not being able to use flash drives, but as with everything, YMMV.

Columbus AFB Information
Audubon cove. Live off base as unaccompanied. Submit a Family Separation Form and get $125/month for not having your family living with you. Check out the BAH rates for your present city compared to Columbus. Guaranteed that you will have more BAH for where you are coming from vs. what Columbus BAH gives you (~$900). Bank the extra money. Laugh all the way to the bank. But, YMMV. EDIT: In case I wasn't clear due to Friday night roll call, submit a waiver for your BAH to take the higher of the two locations (locations being primary residence and where you are attending UPT).

Davis Monthan/Tucson info
Thread Revival. Moving to Tucson in October for the Viper B-course. Looking to rent a house for me and the wife. BAH will be around $1200. Can anyone recommend some updated locations, or does anyone have any houses they'd be willing to rent out?

PCSing with Reserves
Checks. I live in CBM. Wife lives in Dallas. I get BAH at the Dallas rate to help out with the mortgage we have back home. Live off base in CBM and never had to live on as they were getting ready for the large influx of Academy grads to arrive. The finance waiver was processed by my home unit.

AMS (Academy of Military Science) Questions
I went to the Nov. 2011 class. The class in Sept had someone fail and get sent home. That person happened to be the son of a general who then wondered why a person would be sent home after failing when in the rest of the AF, you get a retest after some remedial PT. So for the rest of FY'12, they didn't send you home if you failed while they worked on finding a solution to their regulations. Who knows if that has been fixed by this point or not, but bottom line, arrive in enough shape to not have to worry about it.
