  1. It should be about $400 when all said and done if you don't find a used one. Little nugget of info, try and find a way to borrow someone's 2d Lt shoulder boards. There is no good reason to buy a set of $46 boards when you are only going to have them for 2 years. I saw mixed at AMS. I was on Title 10, while I saw a lot of people on Title 32. Not sure if it was related to this or not, but everyone that was going for a rated slot was on Title 10 while some of the other people going for Mx Officer/Wx Officer were on Title 32, but YMMV.
  2. Yes remove your Prior E rank. You wear OC rank on your collar if you are in a leadership position.
  3. Applewood Smoked Bacon with a nice line of fat on the meat is the way to go. Cut it up before into pieces before adding.
  4. Math: The Easy Way was money for me in the math section: https://books.google.com/books/about/Math_the_Easy_Way.html?id=G7iWwKNE0DAC You may be able to find a .pdf version online as well.
  5. So I'm sitting here re-watching The Pacific on HBO and wanted to know if anyone had read the two memoirs that it was primarily based on, and if they are worth the read. With the Old Breed:At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Sledge Helmet For My Pillow by Robert Leckie
  6. My intel unit kept me up to date as to when things were sent away and processed.
  7. Mine was similar. Began the process end of June '13, interview end of July '13, and was adjudicated 15 Oct '13.
  8. Thoughts and prayers. https://www.cnn.com/2013/10/23/us/vintage-plane-crashes-texas/index.html I almost went for a ride this past weekend when I was in Galveston visiting the wife's family.
  9. Just my .02¢, but I took a computer with me in 2011 and didn't use it at all. It just took up extra space in my security drawer. The CD-RW's are definitely helpful with not being able to use flash drives, but as with everything, YMMV.
  10. Audubon cove. Live off base as unaccompanied. Submit a Family Separation Form and get $125/month for not having your family living with you. Check out the BAH rates for your present city compared to Columbus. Guaranteed that you will have more BAH for where you are coming from vs. what Columbus BAH gives you (~$900). Bank the extra money. Laugh all the way to the bank. But, YMMV. EDIT: In case I wasn't clear due to Friday night roll call, submit a waiver for your BAH to take the higher of the two locations (locations being primary residence and where you are attending UPT).
  11. Thread Revival. Moving to Tucson in October for the Viper B-course. Looking to rent a house for me and the wife. BAH will be around $1200. Can anyone recommend some updated locations, or does anyone have any houses they'd be willing to rent out?

Looking forward to this movie. Hope it isn't over Hollywood-ized.

  14. I'd say 6-9 weeks is more appropriate.
  15. CBM 13-09 '38 Drop: F-22 F-16 A-10 B-52 T-6 FAIP Drank too much to remember the Toner side.
  16. If it's the guy I know, Guard -135's.
  17. Checks. I live in CBM. Wife lives in Dallas. I get BAH at the Dallas rate to help out with the mortgage we have back home. Live off base in CBM and never had to live on as they were getting ready for the large influx of Academy grads to arrive. The finance waiver was processed by my home unit.
  18. Your should be able to order a copy of your driving record through either a state DMV or State police department, methinks.
  19. I went to the Nov. 2011 class. The class in Sept had someone fail and get sent home. That person happened to be the son of a general who then wondered why a person would be sent home after failing when in the rest of the AF, you get a retest after some remedial PT. So for the rest of FY'12, they didn't send you home if you failed while they worked on finding a solution to their regulations. Who knows if that has been fixed by this point or not, but bottom line, arrive in enough shape to not have to worry about it.
  20. CBM 13-06 Drop Only got the -38 side of the house. Drank too much free beer. F-16 x 2 (1 ANG) A-10 B-52 T-6 FAIP F-15S (Saudi Int'l)
  21. Deaddebate can give a better answer, but I'm pretty sure you can easily(?) get a waiver for your eyes if they are less than 20/70, up to a 20/100 limit. As for the eye surgery question, you can definitely go that route prior to being accepted, but make sure you have at least 1 year of post-op doctor visits saying you are good to go; otherwise, the Flight Med folks will make you wait until you've hit that one year gate.
  22. Dude, I can't speak to the pre-op refractive requirements, that's more of a question for Motrin and Deaddebate, BUT if flying is really what you want to do, do not think you don't have time to get to UPT. If you have the means, get the surgery, get one year post op and in the meantime, visit AFRC and Guard units all over the place. Get your name out there and show them you're a good dude. Maybe you get lucky (sts) and get hired before your 1 year post op, and they submit all of your paperwork as soon as you hit that mark. Or maybe you don't, but get picked up later and they submit an ETP for you for an age waiver. I've got several buddies in UPT that have age waivers. Do not hit this hurdle and just give up if this is what you want to do. Get answers, get some options formed, and then choose which path you want to take.
  23. Eh, not necessarily. My unit flies fighters and I'm at Columbus. Know a few other guys who are also going to fighter units here at Columbus. I think it has more to do with when Guard Bureau gets dates, and who can work with what dates. I went to AMS with some guys who ended up at Sheppard, but they didn't do all of the schools I did before UPT (i.e. they skipped Water Survival and SERE, while I went). I really think it has to do more with Guard Bureau and them trying to make your package work (sts) within the constraints they have.
  24. From my experience, all of my dates for school have had around a month break in training for the reason you're stating above. I would have had to come off orders if it was much longer, but YMMV.
