  1. It's the run of the mill timeframe Big Blue mentions in the course syllabus. By no means a hard timeline to follow. I'm just about done, and it's taken me since March, but we've had some TDY's and deployments mixed in during that time.
  2. I can't tell if this is ignorance or arrogance. I'll err on the former and say that waiting for someone to pick you up means you have less than a .069% chance of that actually happening. Be proactive about calling units and talking to actual pilots in the squadrons. Find out if/when their next hiring board is going to be and do everything you can to either visit or on a drill or sometime during the week. At least on the Guard side of the house, we are hiring a bro for the next 10-20 years, therefore we want to know if you are a good dude or someone who will cause issues in the squadron. As a side note to that last statement, you are also interviewing the units you are rushing. If you don't mesh well with a group of dudes, why would you want to go work with them for the next 10-20 years? You said in your previous post that you've done some research but the Guard website is outdated. Noted. Find another avenue to get the info you desire (i.e. being proactive and calling up the units {sts}) Our Sq/CC gets a call, email, or application in the mail at least once a week. He will always answer questions about upcoming boards. I imagine most of the other Sq/CC's or DO's would be apt to provide that info free of charge as well.

Watched The Revenant last night. Great acting from DiCaprio and Hardy. The cinematography was outstanding but I wasn't really impressed by the movie as a whole. Just due to the Oscar buzz, I felt like I needed to see it, but I'll probably never watch it again. I'd recommend a matinee showing to avoid full price. 3 out of 5 in my book.
  4. I was Guard, went to CBM. My wife stayed in Dallas. I submitted forms to have BAH from Dallas as my primary BAH (1500 vs 900 at CBM). It was approved and then I submitted family separation pay and had that approved. For us, the year sucked without seeing each other all the time, but the money was a nice consolation.
  5. Title 10, United States Code, Section 12305(a) https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/USCODE-2011-title10/pdf/USCODE-2011-title10-subtitleE-partII-chap1209-sec12305.pdf
  6. My assumptions only, but I think it's because Big Blue won't pay for you to go TDY to get your FCI if you're still a civilian. You have to be on some sort of military orders for them to pay for it.
  7. Copy. Here is the Harvard Law Review website where the story was pulled from. It's near the bottom of the article. https://harvardlawreview.org/2015/02/trading-the-megaphone-for-the-gavel-in-title-ix-enforcement-2/
  8. I wonder if we are destined to go down this train track in the near future. https://www.infowars.com/innocent-college-student-subject-to-restraining-order-for-resembling-alleged-rapist/ For the quick synopsis: a young man attending college in Oregon has basically been ordered by university administrators to avoid a female student simply due to the fact that he resembles her rapist from a few months earlier. From the article: “(He) was ordered to stay away from a fellow student (cutting him off from his housing, his campus job, and educational opportunity) — all because he reminded her of the man who had raped her months before and thousands of miles away,” she said. Choosing to persecute him based solely on the feelings of another, college officials subjected the male student to near-impossible guidelines. The incident represents the disturbing and growing implementation of politically correct viewpoints, which favor mere feelings over facts, logic and the rights of others.
  9. So, on the news today, it showed clips of Gen. Welsh and the rest of the Chiefs talking on the Hill about ending sequestration. Something he said really caught my attention, that "if the B-17 was flying in the 1st Gulf War, it would've been younger than three of our aircraft flying right now. The B-52, the KC-135, and ..." (Can't remember the last one he mentioned). I guess I just never really thought about how aged some of our fleet had become. EDIT: Autocorrect corrections.
  10. Just keep on trucking dude. Ask for feedback from the board to find out where you can improve yourself in the interviews. I interviewed 13 times before getting selected, and I wasn't even the primary guy. The primary guy fell out at Brooks and then I got the call. If this is what you want to do with your life, do absolutely everything you can to better yourself for the next set of interviews. It sounds like you don't have issues getting them.

  12. Nickel on the grass...
  13. We had the option of staying on base and eating DFAC Thanksgiving dinner, or getting to go off base and stay with a local family for Thanksgiving. 99.9% of the dudes went off base. The majority of people you stay with are current or prior military. I stayed with a dude that was there doing ACSC in residence. A day off the compound drinking beer and whiskey was well worth it.
  14. I'm not a Silverback or a Grey Beard by any stretch of the word, but I am curious to see what the Squadron dynamic will become in the next 10-15 years as the "Entitlement Generation" begins to permeate throughout the ranks en masse.
  15. Dude, seriously?!? This has been answered ad nauseam in the Pilot Selection Process thread and the What are my Chances? thread.
  16. Nickel on the grass... Flew with Tracer at IFF. Class dude. A damn shame.
  17. Big 2 on W.O. Wrights. Good drinks and pretty good wing selection. As an addition, the Fox and Hound routinely has Dave Chappelle stop by Tuesday nights, or rather Wednesday morning, around 1am (from what we were told). Didn't get to Ops Test it, but we ran into him at 2am at The Pub the following night/morning.
  18. I don't know why everyone is so upset. This is obviously the best choice for Immigration control.
  19. I earned a slot as a 1Chuck. However, I never deployed as I got picked up as soon as I finished Tech School. Can't really offer too much info about the job post tech school, but if you have any questions about Basic, Tech School, or the pilot thing in general, shoot me a PM. I'll try to offer any advice I can.
  20. I'd say if you have the means and really want better vision, not just as a means to get a pilot slot, then do it. Best case, you score an interview and get selected. By the time it takes for your packet to go through NGB and get dates for your FCI, you would probably be very close to being over the wait period. Deaddebate can correct if needed, but I thought you had to have a minimum of 6 months between surgery and your FCI.
  21. Maybe the class registrar?
  22. Capital, State, and Magnolia are all on base. Audobon Cove is an off base location. If you are looking for on base, the Cove is a non-factor.
  23. Really? Although with some of the shit they were throwing around in their monthly newsletter, it's not too far out of the realm of possibilities. Eh, 'em. Stay somewhere else.
  24. Audobon Cove was pretty nice. Lots of studs so there were always places to drink and it was an easy walk back to your own house. Pool was great in the summertime but management changed halfway through my time there, and they got a little more strict with drinking at the pool.
