Guard VA Loan Eligibility
mp5g replied to Flybuckeye11's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
So I had to appeal to the Personnel Squadron on base to change my DD-214 to show that I had over the required amount of time to qualify for VA benefits. That allowed me to obtain a Certificate of Eligibilty for the VA reflecting that I qualified for 100% of the benefits. This is the email I sent to them. I brought out certain parts of US Code Title 38 as reference to reinforce why my orders counted, but I would go ahead and read all of the sections mentioned to strengthen your understanding when presenting your evidence to get the Active Duty days credited. // I'm going to apologize for the length of this email before you get into it. I've done some researching, and come across where my "training" will still count towards Active Duty. Looking at US Code (U.S.C.) Title 38, Part III, Chapter 33, Section 3301 Definitions (Caution-https://uscode.regstoday.com/38usc_chapter33.aspx < Caution-https://uscode.regstoday.com/38usc_chapter33.aspx > ) (1) The term "active duty" has the meanings as follows... (B) In the case of members of the reserve components of the Armed Forces, service on active duty under a call or order to active duty under section 688, 12301(a), 12301(d), 12301(g), 12302, or 12304 of title 10. (2) The term "entry level and skill training" means the following: (C) In the case of members of the Air Force, Basic Military Training and Technical Training Then looking at Section 3311. Educational assistance for service in the Armed Forces commencing on or after 9/11/2001: entitlement (a) Entitlement - Subject to subsections (d) and (e), each individual described in subsection (b) is entitled to educational assistance under this chapter. (b) Covered Individuals - An individual described in this subsection is any individual as follows: (1) An individual who - (A) commencing on or after 9/11/01, serves an aggregate of at least 36 months on active duty in the Armed Forces (including service on active duty in entry level and skill training); and (B) after completion of service described in subparagraph (A) (i) continues on active duty; or (ii) is discharged or released from active duty as described in subsection (c). *subsection (d) deal with ROTC and Military Academy time that doesn't count towards active duty service, and subsection (e) deals with an individual who doesn't have at least 36 months of active duty service. I've checked my orders, and I've been on Title 10 USC 12301(d) status for 1,370 days which is well over 36 months. Can I get my DD-214 to reflect this time so I can appeal my denial of VA benefits? // I hope this helps you. I know how frustrating it is, that once again you have to do someone else’s job just to prove that you are eligible for a benefit that is rightfully yours to qualify for. However, when the queep war gets too ridiculous, you really can’t go wrong with finding the US Code document that details what Congress approved. It is your official governing document and squashes all the “word of mouth” or “this is how we’ve always done it” mantras that continue to persist even after you have educated those people on the correct method. -
I could see a little disorganization but I walked in Day 1, Ground School for about 3 hours, went and flew a checkride profile then left for the day. Showed up Day 2 and took the oral (sts) exam followed by the Checkride profile. All in all, a quick and relatively easy way to get the ATP certificate. I think I was out of there in 36 hours with the license and minimum money spent.

Dude, no harm no foul on the drinking front. We’ve had guys rush our unit that had the same feelings. They got around it by bringing a couple of boxes of Einstein Brothers bagels and coffee. It was also said earlier and is worth repeating, no specific bottle is going to get you hired, regardless of the price, rarity, or nostalgia. To be honest, the bottles I remember and appreciate the most were the ones that guys bought and then made them unique by attaching something squadron related to it or something else that is relevant to that particular applicant.

Let’s hope the Chinese only attack during day, vmc conditions.

Literally did that in a jet delivery to Hill several years ago. Denver center wanted me to head towards a point that I barely found on the low chart, but alas, no Lat/Long coords. Told the controller I needed Lat/Long and had him search for 6-9 mins before I got the proverbial, f**k it, fly this heading.

Heard about that technique from a bud a few years ago when ATC starts giving you the runaround. You tell them you are searching for the point on your map as you push your power up to Mil or Min AB. When you start disrupting their flow and sequencing because of how you skip across their screen, they generally start to give you the vector you want.

Guard VA Loan Eligibility
mp5g replied to Flybuckeye11's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Yes. I was approved for a VA loan after UPT, and B-Course Title X orders. -
Maybe when he enters the Flight Line, he “FENCES IN” and flips the Tank Inerting switch.

Commanders are dropping like flies this year
mp5g replied to MDDieselPilot's topic in General Discussion
I think we all knew more news would continue to be unearthed the longer time went on, but this was an interesting facet: The email from Capt. Brett Crozier was sent to three admirals and copied to seven other captains, according to a copy obtained by the Post, contradicting former acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly’s assertion it was sent to “20 or 30” people. https://thehill.com/policy/defense/493192-fired-captain-sent-memo-to-fewer-people-than-former-navy-head-alleged-report -
Anyone here read Sherman Lead: Flying the F-4D Phantom II in Vietnam by Gail Peck? I watched his Constant Peg video that was posted somewhere several weeks ago and he mentioned his “new” book but I haven’t gotten to it yet. Figured it may be a good time to read through it as “idle hands are the devils’ playthings” and the frau keeps finding shit for me to do.

Not defending Finance in the least because I’ve had more than my fair share of troubles with them, BUT, I realized the fallacy of their situation several years ago when I walked into their office to remedy what I thought was a fairly simple issue. I asked to have my LES pulled up so we could both look and verify what I was seeing was correct and understood. When I asked some other innocuous question about a pay status or something, can’t quite remember, the dude literally had to roll over to the next workstation and access that particular system that dealt with my new question. There was no ability to have multiple windows open in different programs to give you all of the information on one screen. I’m so glad we pay for the cheapest software option even though it provides the most headache.

I knew a guy who had one, flew a little too early, felt a pop early on in the sortie with a little dull pain. Continued to ice and rest and was fine a few days later. He only discovered a few months later that the small “pop” he felt was his scar tissue ripping under g. His gents decided to find their cut ends, reattached, and he was a fully functioning, albeit unknowing participant in the reproductive cycle of life. By the grace of God, his wife didn’t get pregnant and he found out before anything else serious happened, but seriously, why not just wait another few days?

What is a good company to Mil-leave from?
mp5g replied to Swanwick's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Any set of orders that are USERRA exempt. Have a few guys in my unit facing being a year or two short of a 20 yr AD retirement and they are scrounging for any flying deployment that is USERRA exempt. We’ve also had dudes fill non-flying staff job billets as well just because they were USERRA exempt, and preserved their leave. Good luck with the decision. -
ANG seasoning to major airlines transition.
mp5g replied to SuperFreaky's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Dude, I may be out of my lane here, but if you got a fighter job with the sole goal of going to the airlines, I think your priorities may be a little skewed. I’ve seen dudes finish seasoning and then go straight DSG, and they have not amounted to much in the jet. 1.5 years of seasoning do not a fighter pilot make. You have to get the experience to truly develop your skills. Rant aside, combat deployments help out tremendously but I think the regionals would also be a viable option. Others may have more info on that particular route as that was not my path. Nevertheless, good luck in whatever route you choose. It’s a good time to get in if you can. -
No. It’s set something like 4 or 5 years after Return of the Jedi. Simply about a Mandalorian bounty hunter chasing down his next paycheck.

Seeing Flight Med/other AF docs as a TR
mp5g replied to BADFNZ's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
If you are a full up part-timer, you will probably need to be on some type of status to see the flight docs. We generally need to be doing a UTA or an AFTP to go and see the docs. When I was a technician, we would no shit, have to drop mil leave to burn a 4 hr AFTP, just to go spend 6-9 minutes at the med group to get a flu shot. I believe as long as you are on a mil status of some sort, you should be good in terms of insurance. I haven’t really experimented with it too much, and others on here may have more relevant info, but this has been my experience at my base. -
I wish this was made up but deploying to Afghanistan last year, we had to have the Velcro rank for our multi cam ball caps that were allowed in the AOR. By a simple oversight, a lot of the “silver” rank was threaded with blue thread instead of the approved black thread. We didn’t notice, and frankly didn’t care because in the grand scheme of things, who really gives a fuck? Well apparently the deployed leadership gives a fuck and shortly after they noticed our transgressions (about a month into the deployment), we were given black sharpies and told to fix ourselves. I used to think the only thing certain was death and taxes, but apparently “shoes gonna shoe” is also a certainty.

If you haven’t seen Free Solo yet, I highly recommend it. The story being told is engrossing and even though you know the dude ends up climbing El Cap successfully, I’d be willing to bet you’re still holding your breath watching him dangle 2000’ above terra firma with little more than a thumb hold on a sheer rock face and a karate kick across a gap.

Reserve 135’s Shifting to 4 Month Taskings?!?!?!
mp5g replied to kapilot's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Not to sound too subversive, but I think a lot of it is going to depend on if the powers that be get their cake and get to eat it too. For higher fidelity info, stop by your friendly intel shop to ask more pointed questions and I’m sure you’ll come to the conclusion I have, 🤷♂️. -
Reserve 135’s Shifting to 4 Month Taskings?!?!?!
mp5g replied to kapilot's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Truth data. Granted I’m a fighter dude, but when I raised my hand over a decade ago, we were doing 45 day deployments WITH a swapout at the halfway point. Fast forward to getting back from the B-course 5 years ago and now I walk right into 3 month deployments (TSP bullshit) as standard. Not that it was that big of a change but it was a real fun conversation to have with the fraü after I sold her on the “at most 45 days” pitch before I joined up. Change is a coming. -
This place used to have a ton of random military stuff. I haven’t been there in 20 years but it’s only gotten bigger (sts) and moved online. https://www.omahas.com/ Just a cursory search revealed they have the mask face piece: https://www.omahas.com/shop/mbu-5-p-oxygen-mask-face-piece/ I’m sure they have an intact mask lying around somewhere. Good luck.

I had a buddy very recently go through Downtown Aviation in Memphis for his Practical. 2 day trip and he’s done. Cost was reasonable as well.

So one iteration (successful or not still yet to be seen) of UPT Next through the gate and VR has to now be incorporated into UPT and PIT. Jesus. We really have gotten there haven’t we.
