Of the three dudes in my class who had over 1000 hrs civilian time going into UPT, 2 of them BARELY made it through. They struggled hardcore. Civilian time does not = awesome performance in UPT by itself.

Saddle up for Syria? Or Op Deny Christmas '13
brabus replied to brickhistory's topic in General Discussion
Depends, how much blood money do we get for taking their side? Is it more than if we side with the rebels? Those are really the only two questions we should be asking. -
The same thing happened to me over 2 years ago on the last PCS...glad to see they've fixed nothing. I gave up and worked with people at TMO, despite their best efforts to not work.

How was there even one second of thought in this dude's mind, "yep, this is completely worth it!" https://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/08/31/colorado-potty-peeper-sentenced-to-3-years-in-prison/

Then you end up with even more civilians who you can't fire no matter how shitty they are, don't give a fuck about doing a good job yet you can't really hold their feet to the fire, hide behind contracts the second you ask them do something you need, etc. Sure we have similar problems with the shoe universe, but despite all their bullshit, they still wear a uniform and can be told what to do with in constraints of the law, can be told to suck it up and do X with no fight about over-time, etc. Sure they hide behind regs, but 9/10 times they're wrong and you can call them on it after < 6.9 min of CTRL+F. Is it frustrating, hell yes. But you have more options when dealing with a lazy shoe in uniform than you do dealing with a lazy shoe wearing a polo. Caveat: I know several great civilian employees and this isn't a slam on all of them. But, unfortunately many I've been in contact with are akin to the worst shoes, but more "untouchable."

Flew with an IP, so he could technically log it as dual time; like you do when getting your civ license with a CFI. Maybe, just a total guess. Either way, someone putting what amounts to a FAM ride on their bio is retarded.

What...the...fuck. That's some doucheness of the highest order.

This does happen some places, thank god. It demonstrates what happens when good dudes/leaders decide to stick out the bullshit AD gauntlet, at least for a while. Unfortunately the small percentage of squadrons/groups running like this shows how the AF continues to fuck itself and promote assclowns while the large majority of real leaders understandably say fuck this and take their talent elsewhere. I guess the AF doesn't understand the whole stupid games, stupid prizes thing.

Air Force 2027: Fewer Pilots, More Drones, More Challenges
brabus replied to hobbitcid's topic in General Discussion
Maybe you should consider the fact fighter pilots have the highest "real world" SA on what actually works/is required in the mission sets currently executed by fighter aircraft (referring to well beyond CAS...we won't be doing this stuff forever). Of course there is a sense of self-preservation when it comes to future jobs, desire to continue in manned aviation, etc...I won't deny that. However, dudes deep in RPA programs, etc. are so removed from said missions/have ZERO SA on the actual missions (beyond what they've read/been briefed), they work with "conceptual" SA. It's all theory, works-great-in-a-vacuum, etc. It shouldn't be a surprise when folks who actually sit in the seat and fly shoot valid holes in the "realistic ability" of different programs. Yep, we'll eventually get there, but there's real, valid reasons why people are not the level of RPA-lovers others think they should be. And it has extremely little to do with wanting to preserve our future jobs. -
Korean pilots failing at flying, shocking.

Well if you survived 10K hours under BQZIPs mom, I can only imagine it's a DFC worthy accomplishment!
-
10,000 hrs UNDER BQZIP's Mom and you weren't crushed to death? Go with DFC story...

3 word post though...is it really him?

Can't wait to waste an entire day on this bullshit when there's tons of shit that needs to get done that actually matters. We are not allowed to do ANYTHING non-SAPR related...even when we said it could be done after all the briefings/drum circles are over...the answer was still no. Spoiler alert: SAPR will not even remotely change the mind of d-bags who rape chicks. But thank God upper management will be able to say, "we know nothing has changed, but look, we did something, see!"

May have changed, but years ago you only got paid 1/2 mileage/per diem on the 2nd car/person if you and your wife were traveling together. However, if you traveled even a day apart, you got full mileage and per diem for each of you. I would either leave one car and pick it up later like M2 said or just drive both. Seems like a lot of money/unknown to ship your car twice in 4 months.

Completely down with that, I only asked because I've literally heard answers such as, "because it carries less missiles," which is obviously a stupid answer. Anyways, the above is a great reason why we should have not fucked up by shutting down the Raptor line...what a giant mistake.

Here's a mind-blower for a lot of people: Every phase of "the war" does not require "full" LO. Everyone is so wrapped around the axle on the 2x120s + 2x2000LB bombs. Firstly, there's SDB, which it can carry more of internally, and secondly it carries as much as a strike eagle (way more than a Viper) when the external stations are used. Shockingly enough, it will actually carry a "shitload" of weapons for a fighter after it + other assets accomplish Step A of the war. Just curious what the basis is for your statement it won't do as well at A/A as the Raptor? No arguments from probably anybody on the Hog...just a dumb idea all around.

Come on day man, you know it's against Navy regs to fly anything more precise than a TACAN when not on the bo-at!
-
Cost saving? WTF...we don't get new flightsuits anyways, so the AF doesn't lose any money by me wearing flightsuits every day at work. Not to mention the fact most dudes in the squadron are flying/in the sim near every day, or at the minimum could easily be thrown into either with short notice...which actually happens pretty regularly. I hope this absolutely stupid idea does not permeate amongst AF management.

Supposedly there's zero available this VML as well according to the porch. They just noticed the two trains going opposite direction and realize they can't stop the crash, but can put the brakes on and slow the impact a bit. AFPC, always looking ahead.

Apparently having "good hands" no longer matters....
brabus replied to Cornholio5's topic in General Discussion
It always sucks to watch the Navy bros miss out (and us miss out on their contribution) because they're the only ones who can't fly because the WX is below TACAN mins. Lame...I still can't believe this goes unfunded every year. How expensive could it possibly be to just put in a basic civilian ILS capability. Then again, the government probably found a way for it to cost $6.9 million/jet.
