Never really interested me. I love flying, but most of the guys I talk to give the impression they do it for the paycheck. I've sat and listened to their stories for 20+ yrs and I have never walked away with the feeling that I wanted to do it. I wouldn't mind doing some other kind of flying. Dream job would be running some little GA airport.

I am also interested as the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. I'm almost definitely not going airlines.

Disagree. We have been told our folks are only going to URT. A few yrs ago, they waffled back and forth if they were going to let a few of them go thru UPT and in the end they all went to URT. Our last UPT bubba is now a Capt. Caveat: we do not have a non-RPA airframe on the ramp, so this is likely the reason for URT only.

I believe you are mistaken. SYR had/has an RC-26 in the OG. This is why they can send some guys to UPT. Unless something has changed recently, they have not ever had a chase plane. Only a few of the folks there have flown both and I believe the folks that have are only qual'd in 1 at a time.

There is no longer a true age limit, within reason, for RPA pilots. Our OG has asked us to not send him any names of folks over 35. Mainly for folks that are to be commissioned. But if currently commissioned and rated, we don't care how old you are. You were previous commissioned, but I am not sure if the the AF considers you a Rated Pilot or not. That's for someone else to determine. Did you fly the C-12 straight out of pilot training or did you initially go thru rotary training? Again, goes to if the AF considers you fixed Wing qual'd or not. We had an ARNG CPT that was dual UH-60 and C-12 qual'd express interest in our unit. I did a little digging with NGB formal training gurus and they said he was not considered fixed wing qual'd. I forget the exact reason but believe it was because his "UPT" was rotary wing. Some uninformed state rep here pushed for and passed for Air Medal license plates. The great thing about them and why I got one is that they were free and permanent, never have to be renewed.
