  1. As queepy as it sounds, I had to complete an aviation instructor CBT from the ADLS portal before my first IPUG. It mirrored a lot of the FAA instructor handbook and had some good stuff in it. Surprise, surprise…coach/athlete is more effective than continually shitting on your future wingman/co-pilot.
  2. Why does the 24 year old Spirit F/O get to use the known crew member access point, yet DoD pilots entrusted with weapons of war have to battle airport security checkpoints? I’ve gone through four separate concourses in one day, each of which required me to remove my laptop/belt/shoes while some neckbeard harasses the mom of an infant about “excessive” amounts of breast milk in the diaper bag. Thanks Bin Laden.

She isn’t cheap to fill up, but can’t beat almost 1100 ft/lb of torque and the long legs for road tripping.

Those $ figures mentioned were only for your Tesla? Or your other vehicles as well?
  5. No BS, that needs to be reported.
  6. We’re on the same page, and your assumptions are correct.
  7. CH: I’m not trying to soapbox, but you know full well that there are heroic Americans who died in great service to our nation. The greater society will likely never know what/where/why it happened anytime soon. I don’t see Doc’s story being any different. By all accounts, a true patriot. Does that mean his story should be told at the possible expense of national security? I have no clue if his wife was partly read-in or given a closed door debrief about the accident. If she wasn’t…absolutely foul. That is something I think the family is owed. Anything more, particularly to the rest of the world…not so much.
  8. I can appreciate commitment to the cause, but I don’t think this is the way to do it. I didn’t know Doc, but I have to imagine that he wouldn’t appreciate the amount of spotlight now refocused on the organization and it’s mission. I can’t help but feel that more harm than good will be done as a result of the publishing. I respect the integrity of your processes, but sometimes things might be better left untold. I know that certainly doesn’t bring comfort to a family left in the dark.

    F1 Thread

We did general admission last year and it was mixed. My biggest piece of advice is to rent an RV and camp at Highway 71 RV park. Has a pool and full laundry/shower facilities. Made it a nice end of day social event. Second piece of advice: go with Pat’s Public Parking. They do free food and booze…good stuff. We won’t be attending any races in person this year. If you do COTA, make sure you pay for seats or walk/free shuttle yourself to turn 6+. The masses congregate around T1 and the ped bridge before T3. The “trek” to 6 and beyond will mean that you can actually find a place in GA to sit. That, and it won’t take an hour to get a cold beverage.
  10. Is that why nobody can seem to get the non-EUA vaccine at any installation?
  11. Last para from the link: ”If Dawson were going into combat in an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, M-1 Abrams tank, or on foot I asked, would you wear a Garmin D2 Mach 1? “I wouldn’t take it with me,” she replied.”
  12. This is a different MAJCOM. I’ve got the Apple Watch, Fenix, titanium Pathfinder and a bunch of other non-smart watches. I’ve come to like the HR and SPO2 functions. I thought the Garmin Instinct was going to be OK, particularly because it has a mode to disable all connectivity functionality.
  13. That’s my problem. Previous units…no problemo. Now it’s an issue. Apparently the wearables memo from years back is vague enough to not be standardized.
  14. It’s never been a problem in the past…but does anybody have recommendations for a watch (not a g shock) that’s permitted in a SAPF/SCIF? I thought a Garmin Instinct would be approved, but apparently not.
  15. Thanks for the gouge. Tried three times (just today) to speak with my local FSDO, and one across state lines. Nobody is answering. Called a DPE who said my situation should be no problem. In case anybody is curious: 14 CFR 61.1 Pilot time means that time in which a person - (i) Serves as a required pilot flight crewmember; (ii) Receives training from an authorized instructor in an aircraft, full flight simulator, flight training device, or aviation training device; (iii) Gives training as an authorized instructor in an aircraft, full flight simulator, flight training device, or aviation training device; or (iv) Serves as second in command in operations conducted in accordance with § 135.99(c) of this chapter when a second pilot is not required under the type certification of the aircraft or the regulations under which the flight is being conducted, provided the requirements in § 61.159(c) are satisfied. Quite applicable because it’s the basis for 14 CFR 61.73 which governs Mil Comp matters…be them certificates, or ratings.
  16. Happy to hear that shoe clerking isn’t just an AF pastime. /s
  17. Any mil comp experts here…specifically regarding type ratings. If so: is the 10 hr requirement solely PIC, or can it be SIC or even OTH?
  18. That’s not a readiness issue, that’s a political issue…easily conflated.
  19. Is this one of the mishaps you were thinking of? AA587 Crash
  20. I know you like a good bet…over/under on the increase of pre-departure altercations caused by the Branch Covidians trying to deliver street-mask-justice for the non-believers of the recycled Hanes skid mark underwear mask?
  21. Have several friends who have flown 802, Archangel, Thrush, etc. In their words, I t’s not the platform we need for armed overwatch. IMO, AFSOC shot itself in the donger when it passed on the Viking and Scorpion. Everything else is a consolation prize so that the C-130/Pave mafia can get something with a propeller.
  22. I’m already balls deep into my bonus, but some former squadron members reached out to me recently. One in particular is shooting for a mil retirement, but doesn’t want to sign the big bonus in order to preserve the “FU” option. That got me thinking: for those who want a 20 year mil retirement, is it better to sign a 7-9 yr option…or is it better to sign the minimum and hope to pick up a second bonus after contract expiration?
  23. Nearly spat out my beverage in the last 2 seconds. Talk about unexpected!
  24. I think I can help with that:
  25. I know this is a “Beyond the…” thread, but am I the only dude who didn’t realize that Roth TSP has no income limits? Any advantage (or possibility) of to trying to recharacterize my Trad TSP into the Roth?
