  1. Something like this: Half a wing (like the non pilot Brits) and a giant rocket.

  3. Baro alt variations amongst the fleet in that airspace is very interesting. This accident was going to happen no matter who was piloting at some point if it was allowed to continue.

  5. Problem is when people in support (not that all space/cyber is support) start believing that they are actually warfighters, they forget that their job is to support the warfighter. When you lose track of how you relate to the mission, you lose track of what your real priorities should be. I don't care if you're turning wrenches, approving GPC purchases, or deploying space sharks with laser beams, you will be better at your mission when you understand how it fits into the overall mission of killing people and breaking things.

  6. Why do that when you can just crucify the inexperienced crews when they inevitably put more jets in the ground

  7. New jet, new day. Space Force leaders stop wearing “spings”, compare Space Force to the Marine Corps as warfighters: discuss. https://www.airandspaceforces.com/small-uniform-tweak-change-space-force-culture/

  8. I was at KPAE today and saw the newest KC-46 doing touch and goes, plane comes around high and fast, absolutely plants the mains, bounces the nose and goes around. Young kid around 10 or so runs over to his dad and says "Dad, that was a military grade touch and go". This has to be the best term I've heard for a terrible approach and crappy landing.

  9. 1 Aug 1955... 70 years ago today... A team of folks was on a secret lakebed with a new, unflown airplane. The pilot, Tony Levier, was going to do the first round of taxi tests. After a 2+ mile taxi run with speeds up to 55 mph, Tony turned around and headed back south for another run. Accelerating to 80 mph in about 1/4 mile, he pulled the power to idle... only to realize he was airborne! Because of the featureless lakebed, he wasn't sure of his height, and came down hard from about 35 feet, left wing low, then bounced back again. Finally getting back in control, he got the plane stopped, with the main wheels on fire. And that, ladies and gentlemen, marked the first flight for the U-2... on Groom Lake, later named Area 51. By 18 October, they were flying the aircraft in excess of 70,000 feet. Ironically, 22 years later to the day... 1 Aug 1977... Francis Gary Powers died in a helicopter mishap. Hail Dragons.
