So far I've interviewed 4 times over the last year and a half and haven't managed to land a slot. My last interview was a couple weeks ago for a Reserve slot. My guess is that I might have a couple more shots at Guard units since they don't have to wait until a Reserve board to know if they can hire me. Have you seen anybody get hired at 29?

I'm a 34F. I took the AFOQT once rather last minute without having time to study, so plan to take it again this year (Pilot 91/CSO 75/ABM 92/ Acad 64/Verbal 86/Quant 41). I'm open to ANG, Reserve and AD. I know I need an age waiver/ETP. I have 16.5 flight hours and have soloed, but no PPL, and no real way to finance one since I'm still working on my degree (B.S. Aeronautics). Will be taking the TBAS soon as part of the AD process. I'm currently working on my AD app for next year's rated board. I'm watching Milrecruiter, though fighter squadron selection boards are now few and far between. One of my biggest obstacles to the ANG route is that I run a business for my li…

Thank you in advance for reading. I am looking for any advice to augment my package as well as answers to a few specific questions: I am 22 years old and a recent graduate from the University of Georgia. I have a degree in Finance with a minor in Aerospace Studies and a 3.85 GPA. I have a 99 pilot AFOQT, 93 PCSM, a PPL, and 85 flight hours. I also held a variety of jobs and volunteer positions in college ranging anywhere from bartender to intern at a special needs outreach. My current job is in Texas with Bell Helicopter however I am still intent on flying for the Guard or Reserve. Specifically, I have been reaching out to any fighter units in the South that w…

Edit 1: to reflect PCSM score after taking TBAS Edit 2: to reflect updated flight hours and subsequent PCSM increase; age increase; context updated Hello, I am a civilian with no prior service looking to fly any heavy airframe I can get my hands on. I am 29 years old. I intend to apply to ANG and Reserve squadrons. I hold a BA and MA in a non-tech non-stem field BA GPA: 3.389 MA GPA: 3.62 AFOQT (1 attempt): P96/N99/AA92/V99/Q70 TBAS 81 with 42 flight hours- PPL to be completed soon PCSM increase with additional flight hours: 6-10 = 69 11-20 = 73 21-40 = 77 41-60 = 81 61-80 = 85 81-100 = 89 …

Hello, I have taken the AFOQT and TBAS. My AFOQT scores were 90/89/87/93/72. My PCSM was 65. I have, 2 flight hours (intro flights - was in a tough spot financially for awhile but wanting to go back and do more). 2 principal questions: 1) is this PCSM crap? I have no idea what the scale is; and 2) while I'm sure it's recommended, would getting more flight hours/ a PPL be dispositive or decisive on an application? I understand that for ANG it is likely to be, but for the active component? Thank you.

I’m highly interested in flying for the ANG; I do not care what I fly or where, I would just be grateful for a slot. I’m currently 24 and have just under 4,000 hours of flight time and work for a regional airline. I also have a high GPA (3.9) With that being said I made the stupid decision to drink and drive when I was 21. I’ve since completed probation, completed various alcohol classes and have abstained from alcohol since. I wear contacts for -2.25 astigmatism, but otherwise have healthy eyes. Is it worth it for me to begin studying and take the AFOQT? Am I better off contacting an ANG recruiter or calling each squadron separately? I appreciate all i…

hey everyone, this question is aimed towards those are/were involved UPT boards, but I'd appreciate the general input too. I have been, for some years preparing to apply for a UPT slot, I am 23, and I graduate in December, with a business degree from Embry-Riddle. I have a ton of work experience, for my age anyway. I can't take AFOQT until November unfortunately, so I won't have that number until then, but I am doing pretty good in the practice test. I will most likely apply to the ANG, and possibly the AF Reserve. I am Muslim. I am not naive. I know the mood is generally against Muslims and anything to do with them, thanks to the bastards in the ME and traito…

I am 35 and pursuing an airguard or reserve pilot slot, no previous military. I understand to not self eliminate and let them tell me no. But a majority of the job postings state in the requirements that I must be no older than 30 to 34 to apply (depending on the attachment), while some others state no older than 34 by start of upt. Furthermore, the units I call ask me the age question right away, then say no thanks. So do I only apply to the VERY few that don’t state age requirements, or still send my application package to every unit and hope I don’t piss off a wing because I can’t follow directions. Take bogidope for example. Only one out of 15 posts does no…

Hi all. Requesting feedback on my chances at a Reserves or Guard unit, and currently considering both fighters and heavies. AFOQT: Pilot 89 / Nav 98 / Acad Apt 95 / Verbal 94 / Quant 92 PCSM: 89 (with another 12 hours, this should bump up to 93, so I plan on getting those additional hours shortly) Flying: PPL, 88 hours, will start working towards instrument soon GPA: 3.57 (BA Economics), Also have master’s Prior Service: Previous active duty USAF officer (4 years, O3) in Contracting, deployed once (Baghdad) Age: 33 (turned 33 in Jan) LORs: 1 from previous squadron commander, 1 from coworker, 1 from good friend. I believe all are strong…

Long story short, Current MSgt AGR, Work at a bomb range (non flying wing). Recently completed my Bachelors. 11 years in, DSG from 2010-2016, AGR since. Have been able to be exposed to all types of aviation due to my current job. Have recently (2019) decided that pursuing an aviation career is what I want. I should finish my PPL this spring. I have sacrificed a lot to get it done. I know a lot of the pilots in my state, have a good reputation. 65 Pilot Afoqt, 50 PCSM (41 hrs) 56 when I hit 60-80 Hours. Due to money I will probably finish around 60 hours. I've got great Letters of recommendation from leadership all over my state. I am decorated and feel like I interview we…

Ladies and Gents, I'm currently active duty USAF. I'm doing my level best to earn a pilot slot. I'm not keeping my eggs all in one basket. I'm looking at active USAF as well as ANG/AFRES. I'm also looking at the USMC. I haven't heard a whole lot from the USN. I'm studying Aeronautics at ERAU and my grad date is April 2019. That would put me at 30. Before graduating, I'm looking at going to ground school as well as getting at least 10 flight hours under my belt to improve my PCSM score. This is the dream. All that being said, I could potentially transfer to another university that will potentially put my grad date in April/May 2018. But, haven't hear…

After my TBAS and AFOQT, I ended up with a 93 Pilot, 75 NAV and 52 PCSM with 0 flight hours. 200+ Hours puts me at 90. I have 2 now so Im bumped to a 57, but it seems like the newer format really focuses on flight hours. I'm young so theres a decent chance I'll see 200 hours before im too old to apply for boards. However, does anyone have a decent understanding on how the scoring works? Would it really be worth it to go back and take the TBAS again? Any input is appreciated.

Back before 2020, when I was still in college, I was actively pursuing the ANG. After I graduated, I pursued the Active Duty Navy due to an atrocious job market, got accepted, and even attended OCS in July of this year. However I DOR'd after the flight doc said my vision was slightly out of regs and disqualified me from SNA. I was also recommended to come back. I have already gotten LASIK on 02SEP2022 and have 20/15 vision, but it will be a long time until I have the opportunity to return to OCS for an SNA slot. In the meantime, I would absolutely love to at least take another shake at the ANG. Age: 25 AFOQT: Pilot 89 Navigator 77 Academic Aptitude 94 Verb…

Hello all, I'm in my last year of college and I'm looking to become a military pilot. Here's some personal information. Age: 22 I currently fly for a regional airline on the CRJ200, I have around 3,000 hours of flight time. Current GPA is 3.69. This semester I should get a 4.0 and I'm estimating I will graduate with a high 3.7. I don't care about base or aircraft assignments, and I'm interested in the guard/reserve. My only medical condition is my vision. It's currently -2.25/-2.50. Otherwise I've held a FAA 1st class medical for years. Just began studying for the AFOQT. Aiming to take it mid December early January. I h…

I have near 400 hours but for some reason my pcsm score is coming out as me having zero hours. I called the proctor and she said she would investigate. My score without is 64 and my speculative with 201+ is 97. Has this happened to anyone before? Why do you think my hours are at zero?

I'm applying for this years active duty board, which meets late January. What I'm wondering is, I have over 100 hours with a pcsm of 89, but with the cut off date I wasn't able to get a ppl. That's literally my next step. Does anyone know if the board looks more at flight hours then an actual ppl; and will not having a ppl hurt my chances? Curious what your thoughts are, thanks. Hey all, It's been about a year of applying for me. I've been able to get a few interviews at various heavy units last year, but the rejections far outweigh the interview offers, and haven't been offered a slot at any of the units I interviewed with. I'm looking to get some feedback to see where I stand and how I can improve my odds for the upcoming year. To get the basic stats out of the way: Age: 30 AFOQT: Pilot: 98, Nav: 85, ACAD: 93, Verbal: 91, Quant: 98 PCSM: 99 Degree/Major: B.S. & M.S. in Civil Engineering. Undergrad GPA: 3.51, Grad GPA: 3.10. LORs: Project manager (direct supervisor), managing principal of my office, flight in…

So I know this has been discussed a million times before, but I'd like some of your guys input on my overall package for OTS. Im currently AD (6 years TIS) as a maintenance instructor, and a previous flight line crew chief. I'm 24 and have been working on my Bachelor's pretty much since I came in. I will get my Bachelor's of Science in Aeronautics with a minor in Unmanned Aerial Systems in September, just in time for the first and only AD board. I currently have a 4.0 and only have a capstone left so I should graduate with a 4.0. My AFOQT scores are Pilot 99 Navigator 99 Academic Attitude 77 Verbal 52 Quantitative 88. My PCSM is 72 with 1 flight hour, though I'm going to …

Hello Baseops, I was trying to get a feel for what a decent PCSM score looks like in the current Reserve/ANG hiring environment. AFOQT 75 for both Pilot and Nav, 127 or so hours flying time (have PPL, some XC time built up and 1/4 of the way through instrument training; working towards CSEL rating and maybe becoming a CFI while I work to get selected by a squadron and get to go to UPT). Current PCSM 69; I have another chance to take the AFOQT and I think I can raise it if I get some math tutoring help...I was able to find information about previous years on some forums somewhere and as I recall the median PCSM score for people selected for UPT in FY 16 or 17 was som…
