Hi Everyone, I'm looking for advice on which are my best options for getting my commissioning and going to UPT. I'm currently working as a Test Engineer at Northrop Grumman, have been working in the Aerospace/Defense industry for 6 years and have obtained my single engine airplane private, instrument, and commercial ratings on my own. I understand I will need an age waiver. The AD recruiter I'm in contact with has told me the current AD board is not considering anyone requiring an age waiver. I'm putting out applications to every ANG unit that I can as well as getting the ball rolling with an AFRC recruiter for the unsponsored route. I have no wife and kids and wo…

Hello everyone, I'm trying to get a feel for how competitive of a candidate I will be. I have my AFOQT done but still need to schedule my TBAS before I have PCSM scores. My college GPA is probably my biggest hurdle to overcome, it's not great at all, however I've gotten my act together and learned from my failures. GPA is around 2.37 after a few disastrous early semesters, I am not proud of it, but I clawed my way back to graduation. AFOQT scores: P: 98 N: 96 AA: 77 V: 93 Q: 52 I also have my instrument rating, with high performance and complex endorsements and ~360 flight hours at the time of this post. I should have my commercial in a couple week…

Hello! I just wanted to get some feedback on where I stand currently and anything I can do to help. I’m currently a SrA with a little over 3 years TIS, I’m days away from PCSing to Europe. My plan is to start applying for ANG Units my last year over there and hopefully come back stateside for a month or so to come to some drill weekends/hopefully interviews. I’m not sure if this is feasible or not but that’s the plan for now. Also, the goal is fighters. Stats: SrA 1A8X1 w/ 3 years TIS A couple of minor awards (AETC Commander’s Award, etc.) AA in Arabic from DLI w/ 3.5, Dean’s List every semester BA in Arabic Language and Culture w/ 3.66 Cum…

Hello everyone, I would like to start off by saying thank you to those of you that are reading this that have served and are currently serving this country. I hope to join you soon! (New member here) I am a college senior finally getting to the point where I can start applying seriously to guard units. I'm graduating this spring with an accredited engineering degree and have my PPL with around 120 hours along with my tail wheel endorsement. I will be applying to several upcoming UPT boards in the north east focusing on fighters for now. I'm just trying to get an idea of my competitiveness as well as gain any tips on rushing units and getting to know the right pe…

  8. Hey, all. Thanks for the great community to help spin up on info about a career in military aviation! I've spent a lot of hours on here reading and lurking, but this is my first post. Might as well make it a big one, right? First, pardon me for any ignorance in information. Although I have spoken with a recruiter (just spoke while typing this, actually, and working on scheduling MEPS), I did a lot of the work thus far myself outside of filling out the application docs. An awful lot of the stuff is foreign to me coming from the civilian world and not having someone guiding me through the process, so I'm sure a lot of it is simple or I've done it out of order. I'm…

  9. My ultimate goal is to become a mobility pilot with an ANG unit, but am open to the AFRES, and lastly AD. Here are my stats: P/N: 93/93 PCSM: 71 Hours: 36(w/ solo endorsement) Prior Service(6yr AD, 3yr Res) 3.43 Grad end of year w/ BA 20% VA Disability: GERD(no meds, diet controlled), Tinnitus(Rgt ear, only around loud noises, doesn't effect me in the cockpit currently) Age: 28, but non-commissioned and I'll be 30yo in SEP2017 What are my chances?

  10. Ex-Army fixed wing looking at ANG fighters. Officially getting honorable discharge in Aug with 9 years of service, last 4 as an O-3 AFOQT: 89/82/66/86/44 PCSM: 96 31 Years old 2,800TT (only 130 in helos, the rest is all Multi-turbine fixed wing) Currently narrow body FO at a legacy airline. Have flown regional and fractional as well in the past. Only 1 unsat maneuver in a mil proficiency ride over 4 years ago, otherwise clean training record. Really hoping to push the angle that since I am fully established in my civilian career, I can put it to the side to just build seniority fully dedicate myself to the Guard. Also, coming in as a senior …

  11. What's up everybody! Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm a former AD KC-135 Boom Operator that has been working to get a spot for UPT anywhere and on any airplane! I obviously feel like I'd be a good fit at a tanker squadron since I know the drill but I am open to serving once again anyway and anywhere I can. Here are some of my scores: Age: 32! I don't feel THAT old... Hey everyone, new here but I've been lurking for a little bit. Just wanted to get some opinions on my application that I just submitted and what I could work on if I'm not selected. Some details about me... I graduated with a 3.36 GPA in mechanical engineering, but my engineering GPA is 3.81. I have a lot of flight hours, 87 or so, and will have my PPL in the next two weeks (my club makes me take a mock checkride before the real deal and the mock one is this Monday.) My AFOQT scores are 95/92/87/65/99 which puts my PCSM at 86. I have a lot of leadership experience from internships, class projects, and even management and team leader positions in the work force. I did…

  15. In my tenure I’ve seen the UPT starting age go from 27 to 30 to maybe 33? What is the latest gouge? Is 33 the limit? Are waivers likely or unlikely? My unit is accepting packages right now and they just want to make sure they aren’t turning away qualified candidates.

Currently active duty, e-2, just turned 20. I’m almost done with my cdcs and can hopefully start college ASAP. My plan is to join Rotc, get a high pcsm with some flight hours and get a pilot slot. My question is what steps should I take today, or tomorrow to reach this goal. I have a plan, but what can I do to ensure it doesn’t fall through. Sorry if this isn’t the place for this post. Thanks for reading.

  17. 1st AFOQT Pilot Score: 87 1st PCSM Score: 83 @ 101-200 hour bracket....87 @ 201+ hours Post Retake of the TBAS without a change in flight hours: 89 @ 101-200 hour bracket....93 @ 201+hours For the guys that have retaken the AFOQT and have improved their AFOQT Pilot section, what did see for an increase in your PCSM score? What is a fair expectation of my PCSM score increase if I raise the AFOQT Pilot let's say to 90 or a 95? Also any pointers or words of advice to help increase the AFOQT pilot score would be appreciated.... I'm in the process of studying for a retake and I'm open for any suggestions. Thanks!

OK, so I have interviewed twice (once at my home unit and another elsewhere) now with no luck. At the beginning, I thought I was a competitive candidate but now I am starting to doubt myself. Quick facts: -Been a loadmaster in the Guard for 7 years, -Private Pilot (66.1 Hours) -College Grad, BBA in Business Economics, 3.16 GPA -AFOQT: 85 Pilot 82 Navigator 90 Academic Aptitude 99 Verbal 61 Quantitative PCSM Score of 81. Also, I felt like I knocked both interviews out of the park when I left but apparently not.

  19. I've posted before, civilian with a decent shot that is applying to the 910 AW (local). I've got some good networking / seem to be liked there, but they could have an enlisted guy who's been waiting to go or someone otherwise more qualified than me so I'm not getting my hopes up. As for my preferences, the general A10 mission is my favorite but I doubt I'm competitive enough to apply to a base like the 122 FW. The 910 AW is top pick for me considering their unique mission and the fact that its local. I don't care about fighters much, but maybe because I'm not taking into account close air support missions. After that, I guess beggars shouldn't be choosers. Right now…

First off, I know there's only so much one can judge based on what I give here without seeing my whole package. I've been denied from the past 5 fighter board interviews after being accepted to the first one I applied to and nearly getting hired (what I was told). I even visited one of the units ahead of the invite dates, but didn't get invited. Put a lot more work into my cover letter and resume after the four rejections in a short period thinking that was my main weakness for that batch, but still didn't hold up for this latest board. Where's my weakness here? I know it takes over a year usually for guys to get to UPT from hire date so I didn't think my graduation date …

  21. My dad was a KC-135 nav and I've always dreamed of flying. I've fluctuated in seriousness but now that I'm a year away from graduating,(Dec 2017) I've decided to go all in for it. I've gotten in contact with a recruiter. I want to apply 17 January (I really should have started sooner. More on that later.) Age: 23 Education: Associate's in Automotive Maintenance. Currently pursuing a BS in Computer Science. Cumulative GPA: 3.56, likely to be a 3.60 or higher at the end of this semester, if I don't bomb any finals I'll have all A's this semester. No criminal record. I had some problems in school as a kid, but since high school I've been fine. No fli…

Hello all, It’s been a dream of mine to fly and serve my country. Both my parents were special ops in the Air Force, one retired. I’ve grown up around the military lifestyle and have learned a lot through that time. I’m wanting to serve in any branch that will take me for a pilot slot preferably fixed wing, no helos. Here’s where I’m at. - 24 years old with a B.S degree in business administration with a focus in logistics, 3.7 gpa. - ~18hrs towards my PPL with a solo. About to do my cross country. Hours will go up weekly, every two weeks money depending. - 3 LOR’s, retired AF pilot, Store director (work), and executive (work). - No test scores yet. Been stud…

  23. I am a 25 yr old college graduate who used to work as a geologist and now has plans to apply to the WOFT program. So far my packet looks decent: I have a 99 AFQT on ASVAB test. 69 SIFT GPA 3.0 with two undergraduate degrees. The only problem is I have only a former marine pilot and the previous professional engineer I worked under as recommendations. I can get plenty of letters of recommendations in my previous career field, but my recruiter is adamant I need an Army Pilot's rec. What are my chances of getting in without the army pilot letter of recommendation, and what are tips for anyone who also struggled with this. Thank you for any help, and …

Hello all, I applied for the AD 2021 UFT board and got RPA. I was going for pilot, but was selected for URT. If I decline URT it will disqualify me from ever applying to UFT again due to my age waiver I received for the board. Does that mean if I declined and tried for a guard Upt slot that I would be disqualified as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you!
