According to the news today, the NDAA that Congress has agreed on and will vote on later (and which Sen Levin said the Pres will sign) has restored 32 Mobility aircraft and spared 3300 airmen, while cutting the A-10's from Barksdale, Ft Smith and the F-16's at Iowa. It also says the MC-12's would remain in the active duty force. I thought part of Schwartz's plan was to retire the 12 or 13 ANG RC-26B's and replace them with the MC-12's? Anyone know what's in the legislation pertaining to the future of the ANG RC-26's? Did they get spared as well, and if not, what's going to replace them? https://defense.aol.c...icid=apb2#page2

Sorry if this has been covered before, but my prior search of the forums did not reveal much of what I'm about to ask. I'm a Navy Jet student who is facing a possible attrition down the road. Still in training, but seems probable as I'm just not getting carrier landings down cold and have grades on the verge as a result. I'm 28, had decent primary grades, and am interested in still flying for the military in some capacity if things don't work out here. Has anyone heard of any protocol regarding a Naval Aviator attrite or a DOR applying to the guard? Does attrition or DOR pretty much nuke any chances a guard unit or the Air Force Reserves would pick me up? And of cours…

Hello, If you want to take advantage of VSP, we are here for you. Check out the wonderful and wild job opportunities in the WVANG. If you are a 11MXX and need someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called Martinsburg. We are sending C-5s to the boneyard and opening our great big hangers to a bunch of C-17s. All you have to do is call DSN 242-5043, or 304-616-5043. Ask for Drew or Pete. We are conveniently located within a 1.5 hour drive of IAD, DCA, and BWI if for some reason you wanted to be close to those airports. Paradise is a phone cal…

Question for the masses: I'm an AD KC-135 guy and just got picked up for March as my 2nd assignment. Just wanted to get a feel for what to expect and see if anyone is out there or has experience there. I realize that its an associate unit and that can somewhat hurt career progress. If anyone has general info on the base, community, QOL, and places to live, it would be much appreciated. I'm a married guy w/no kids...wife will be looking to go to Loma Linda for school while we are there. Thanks! Goblin

Hello all, I have been waiting in the wings this past year waiting for my TS to go through before my unit wanted to set me up with OTS and UPT dates. It sounds like it went through and they want to start setting up my dates. I'm a little nervous as this is potentially a major turning point in my life. I know the next 1.5-2 years of training will be hard, but my question is what will life be like once I get back? I am an engineer in my civilian life and I want to keep doing that. There are lots of boards talking about airline pilot lifestyle in the guard, but how about a more traditional civilian job? What kind of flying commitments will I have every month? Doe…

Little background about me...I was an off the street hire last year for a Herc unit (guard). I attended my FCI last week and was unfortunately disqualified for defective stereopsis with no waiver recommendation. I have plenty of flying experience, but it doesn't seem as though my depth perception is good enough for manned AF aircraft. I was told by the flight surgeon that I was eligible only for RPAs at this point, but that I would need to find another unit to hire me. Any other strings I might be able to pull before I am forced to give up on my dream of flying Hercs? Any thoughts as to switching over to the RPA track for a guy who had his sights set on manned aircra…

With the new reg that was published sometime last year, we are now allowed to do 24 AFTPs per quarter and a max of 72 per year. Unfortunately the finance system apparently couldn’t handle that minor change and all additional AFTPs past 16 had to be done by hand through CMS. So I have 8 AFTPs that still haven’t paid out since Aug/September 2019... and another 8 that haven’t been paid since October/November... I run to my finance office yesterday to ask what is going on and I am told that the have stopped processing additional AFTPs until the finance system gets fixed. Does this check with what you guys are hearing at other ANG bases? Sent from my iPhone using B…

What's the major differences between the ANG and the Reserves. I understand that the guard is owned by the state, but at the pilot level, what diferences are there? Thanks in advance

I just found out that I was selected as an alternate. I'm happy (I guess) because the board just could have said "No Thanks". But, what are the odds of me actually becoming a primary canidate? and would my chances increase of getting selected next year with the same unit? (Believe me, I'm not hoping one of the primaries fails their FC1 or anything like that. I believe they worked just as hard as I did) But any info on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is WIC a complete waste of time for tankers?...I mean, what can they possibly teach you for tactics with the tanker....overhead, scram, combat descent....???? Our Wing Commander seems to think that someone needs to go to this but I think its a complete waste of time, not to mention that most of the patch wearers I've come across are complete tools. Any thoughts?

I most recently SIE out of OTS due to family concerns. I was selected for an A/D Pilot Slot. I'm not asking any of you what you think of my SIE.. I had my reasons and it was the proper choice. NOW... I believe the ANG offers a better lifestyle for myself and my wife. Would the ANG consider someone with my situation?

Sorry for the long first post from a long time lurker, but I am in need of some advice. I am separating from active duty as a Major with close to 14 years of service. I have a couple full-time job offers in the Guard/Reserve, and I am having a difficult time making a decision. I have researched a lot on AGR vs ART and feel I am well-versed in the pros and cons of each. As for the offers, the first option is an ANG AGR position that is supposedly a flying position, but remains to be seen if I will actually do any flying due to needed requals or interfly agreements. The second option is an AFRES ART position that will indeed be flying. Both jobs are in the s…

I've already burned my MGIB-30 in the 1990's and am now totaling up what I can receive under Post 9/11 The Post 9/11 GI bill current eligibility standards Qualifying active duty includes: – Full-time duty in the Armed Forces, other than active duty for training – A call or order to active duty under section 688, 12301(a), 12301(d), 12301(g), 12302, or 12304 of Title 10 • Active duty periods may begin at any time, however, only portion served after 09/10/01 can be used to establish eligibility Based on the above, does this mean I can tally up all my Man days (MPA), Active Duty for Special Work, deployments, etc. and use these for benefits? All AT (annual…

Hi guys, I'm 20yrs old, 2nd year of college and I want to become a pilot but am not sure which route to take. I have the opportunity to attend AFROTC as a cross town student and take extra classes to catch up since I would have already missed my first year. I do understand that pilot slots are very competitive in ROTC, and that coming in as an AS250, I would have to be sharp in order to have a good RSS (Relative Standing Score) since the commander would have a shorter time to get to know me. A couple weeks ago, I spoke to an air force C-17 pilot (reserves), he made me realize that perhaps the Air Force Reserves was a better option for me since I would be able to f…

I got my previous CAC at my guard unit.. then PCSd... CAC was getting unreliable, so I got a new one here at an active duty base. Now I can't log into the guard webmail (mail3.ang.af.mil/owa), keeps saying internal 500 error. The email address on my cert changed back to ###@us.af.mil. I used RAPIDs online self service to change it back to my guard email, but no luck. Anyone have prior experience with getting a new CAC while on an Active Duty installation? Somethin aint right with mine.

Has anyone seen the July 15 or so memo from NGB that states all pilots applying for ART / tech can be hired at GS13 even if they aren't IP's? It's true and works. I can attest. I had a buddy in California who told his state level that and they balked at him. So I passed on the memo and they quickly stuffed their collective foots in their mouths. It was sent out in summer 2015. And my buddies' state level hadn't heard about in in Jan 16. Glad I saved that email. I thought if they hadn't seen it maybe other units hadn't. I haven't looked at it lately but I don't think their is an expiration however it seemed like a retention thing which by definition means it will go away…

I did my best to search the forums, but didn't come up with much. Unfortunately, the HIANG site doesn't have much information either. From a financial standpoint, I'm just curious how one lives on Oahu with a Guard salary. I'm not too clear on who is eligible to receive BAH, or if you're allowed to live on base or not. If anyone here has experience with this, I'd be most appreciative of any insight you can provide.

Was discussing on another forum about my chances of going the pilot Reserves route because I'm somewhat hesitant of going Active Duty and not getting a pilot slot (Needs of the Airforce). Was trying to get some feedback on what the general feel of the training pipeline, acceptance, etc. was like. Instead I got a bunch of "If you're afraid of the needs of the AF going Active Duty then you shouldn't even commission". "It's about being an Officer first, not being a pilot." "Reserves isn't here just to get you hours/ratings." Like damn, just trying to gauge the feel of getting a pilot slot thru reserves v AD because 1.) I love flying 2.) I'm interested in servi…

I'm starting UPT in July and I was wondering if anyone on this board is going to be there with me. As far as I know, there are four Guard dudes in the class ahead of me, and one in the class after.

So I am about a year out from gradutaing college with my Aeronautical bachelors degree. 3.6 GPA. I am looking to apply to my local ANG fighter unit. I have my commercial, Instrument, CFI, couple hundred hours of Civ flight time. What should I be doing now to get the ball rolling? I assume I should start getting ready to take the AFOQT and the TBAS? I've gathered a couple of LORs so far and not really sure where to go from here. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm hearing ARC fighter units are being told their 900 days of seasoning orders for new guys are getting cut to something low like 140 days now. Any insight out there into how official this is or likely to stick around?
