Are there any prior Navy folks on here that'd be able to elaborate on their transition to the Air Guard or Reserves? Also, if there are any prior F-18 guys who can provide a comparison between Navy fighter squadron QOL/typical workday and AF Guard (fighter squadron) QOL/typical workday, that'd be awesome.

Hoping someone can help me with this... My unit is having issues gaining me into MILPDS (it has been a couple months since I swore in). Apparently after I am pushed from AFRISS, I just disappear in the system instead of showing up into MILPDS. What they believe to be the issue is my background: I am a non-prior who was originally selected on an AD pilot board and then I was selected by my guard unit approximately 1 month prior to my OTS date. Has anyone gone through this before?

Fellow Air National Guard Hopefuls who are of the elderly variety.... Attached is the newest NGB ETP Checklist. I couldnt upload the fill-able form, but this will allow you to see that the ETP checklist has been drastically cut back from the previous. My last conversation with my recruiter indicated that NGB has changed their accessions process and now requires ETPs to be complete before swearing in just like the reserves. They also indicated that Age Waivers are now to only take 30 Days as opposed to 6+ months. I received this information early September and my packet was pushed up at the end of the second week of September. I was told that my packet is now…

So I decided to start a new topic based on a discussion in the Bonus thread regarding the new technician/ART pay tables. As a 14 year technician who served as a technician from Jan 07-about three weeks ago, I’m happy progress was finally made, even if I’ll never see it. Some comments were made about TAG buy-in and such. But, the way I read it, it looks like it applies to multiple agencies (to include the Department of the AIr Force). Here’s the letter if you haven’t seen it: And the pay tables can be found here by scrolling down to tables 0759-0767. https:// https://apps.opm.gov/SpecialRates/2018/AllSRTables.aspx So, since it’s the new OPM pay table and…

Good scores (all 90s AFOQT, 99 PCSM), older duder (mid-late 20s), well liked by people, been trying to go guard with no luck and AD route is looking more appealing. Don't really give a shit what I fly at this point. PPL, anything is more exciting than a clapped out 172. Need some honest feedback. What if I don't care about queep as that's all I've known in my career working for alphabet soup agencies in the USG? What if I don't care about getting deployed? Asshole managers/supervisors have been the norm for me. Looking for some earnest pros and cons. I'd do just about anything at this point for time away from full time desk flying land under fluorescent lights til my…

I will be joining a heavy squadron where nearly everyone is an airline pilot. I don't really want to be away from home constantly, so i am weighing pursing a work from home job in the corporate world. Does anyone have experience on how you are able to make this work? I know USERRA protects you in most cases but potentially being gone on longer trips frequently could make it difficult for everyone involved, especially because most civilians don't understand how the guard/reserves work. Another challenge is that I am separating from AD and going reserves, should i wait to find a job until after I get back from UPT? I cant imagine any employer will entertain the idea o…

Hey all, Couldn't find an existing topic that covers the question, but I'm sure I'm not the first and only one who's ever wondered it. I also will say up front that I'm sure the chances are slim if they exist. Long story short, I was a UPT stud, dot med DQed, went non-rated, got a waiver, re-applied, got denied to crosstrain by my CFM (didn't think that would be possible, but I digress). At this point I'm set up to attend a program with a new ADSC commitment for my next assignment, and I'll be about a mid-grade Captain by the time I can get out. What I'm wondering is - is it possible, have you ever heard of anyone etc. rushing a guard or reserve fighter squ…

I know the board is still quite a few months away, but I am curious if anyone can shed some light on this for me. I have been sponsored by a unit and have been told that the boards are continually getting more and more competitive so I am wondering if anyone could give me an idea of my chances. GPA 3.0 Pilot 97 Nav 72 Verb 62 AA 62 Quan 58 PCSM 97 Flight time - 5,000TT / 3,900 Jet time Currently an regional airline pilot flying 85-90 hours a month, CFI CFII MEI, I have worked with habitat for humanity projects, I worked numerous charity events, president of my aviation fraternity in college, worked 3 jobs while in college.

For about the past year, all I keep hearing back from units is that they are seeing record numbers of applications for their boards. I am starting to wonder if board applications overall are increasing, and also what affect that is having on odds. You can have great scores, great experience, and show up on drill weekends, but if there are consistently 150-200 applications each board the odds can still be rough. This may be anecdotal, but I started applying to fighter units approximately 3 years ago. The first year was great - I had a few interviews and got really good feedback from them. Then it all dried up, even though I increased the number of boards I applie…

I'll be on a mob for the first time second-half of FY22 (1 Apr - 30 Sep) and I'm looking for an official reference one way or the other on if I can take OCONUS leave. I'm an RPA pilot so the "mobilization" is at our home station flying our normal combat line, so no change in location/mission/etc. from the normal federal MPA orders we work all the time. I had initially thought it'd be no different than taking leave while on federal orders any other time, but other folks have raised their eyebrows and said to try to find out for sure. Looking to have a solid reg to point to before I either book expensive tickets to Europe or rolex the family vacation to another time. T…

Looking for some guidance on best possible foot forward. The cancelling of the AD board was a punch in the nuts, and seeing as they are projecting no more till 2023 I am trying to make a call. Current situation: 28 years old as of last week. ~90 across the board AFOQT. Current engineering gig at a defense contractor. Been doing it for ~6 years but it is not my purpose in life, mostly good people, awesome product, some a*holes like anywhere else, I’d take a bullet for my boss. He punches out in the fall to retire, and seeing management’s recent maneuvers is making me lose faith that I’ll want to be there after he exits. I’ve got a Masters, dual Aero/M…

Long time lurker here, I have searched through the forums without luck trying to find out a bit more about the OR ANG. When applying I understand that they pool all applicants together and pick a couple highly qualified applicants out, for both Klamath Falls and also Portland. My question is if interviewed and picked up does the candidate get any say where he/she goes? Klamath has a largely different mission than Portland and I understand you'd get "farmed" out to another unit for several years before you return to the 114th and then are full time, whereas at Portland it is more of the traditional guard "gig".

I am filling an AGR spot and a possible job offer came open that allows me to work a different job for half a day a month on a non interference base with my primary pilot job. It doesn't make a ton but it's a nice bonus. My bosses don't want me to because they are worried about time logging for this job during the day while I am also an AGR. I would have a different uniform that I wear for this job and then change and go into work for my AGR position. My bosses are worried and don't think that I can do another job while AGR and they think that since the job is for a civilian outfit who renders services back to my wing once and a while that there may be a conflict of inter…

I know there are old threads on the subject and I've read them. Most don't go into too much detail and simply say "Don't be an idiot" "don't be an @ss" "have a firm handshake." I'm an older applicant and I know time is not on my side. There are a few units I have rushed, non have had interviews yet but two have told me to turn in an app to keep it on file. One of the units, I have visited them three times. All three times, I just walk all around the squadron and try to make myself known by everyone. I shake hands, I talk to pilots and non-pilots alike, I try to bond over the military, aviation and even non-flying things like music, cars or literature. This unit, I even go…

I'm considering doing Palace Chase with the hope of getting a Guard UPT slot. I'm intel school right now. I love it, but my dream since boyhood has been to fly (dad's a Viper pilot, g-pa was a Thunderbird). Has anyone else done this? What is the process like? Anything I can do that would help?

UPT student here just trying to learn how this all works. Going from AD pilot to guard/reserve, how much does my airframe on active duty matter to a guard/reserve unit? Examples: could a C17 guy get into an F16 unit? HH60 guy into a C5 unit? F22 guy into a C130 unit? Any relevant information is welcome, obviously a newbie with some curiosity.

Anyone out there Palace Front after getting passed over twice for Lt Col ? Looking for advice... When should I start the process to get medically approved to separate? When should I start coordinating a waiver for getting twice passed over? I don’t want to do it after I get passed over and then try and seven day opt and then not get the waiver approved. Any other Limfacs that I’m missing? I’m trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. Feel free to PM me. Thanks

Does anyone know the how the full Palace Front process works? I got hired by a guard unit and spoke to the inservice guard recruiter that services my base. I filled out an AF 1288 and a Palace Front Questioner and returned it to them. The unit that hired me asked me for medical, dental, surf, shot records, etc... and they medically approved me and returned the back of the AF 1288 to my local inservice recruiter, who then turned the paperwork to the AFPC Palace Front office. The recruiter swears up and down that I don't need to do a thing on the VMPF with regards to separation, and told me that AFPC will contact separations at my current base once the AF 1288 is…

I'm currently Active Duty and in talks with an ANG unit, but have a question I keep getting different answer to: What length of a commitment do I incur if I transition to the ANG via Palace Front as an officer? The ANG recruiter is telling me 4 years, but that sounds high considering the payback for Palace Chase is 3x your remaining ADSC and Palace Fronting (from my understanding) is just a transition to the ANG with no commitment since I've served out my ADSC contract. For some context, I'm in a flying position and would be filling a flying position in the same aircraft/crew position that I currently fly with no additional training required. Thanks in advance…

I’m gonna be moving to the DFW area when I separate from AD this year. I’ll be going airlines for my civilian job, but thought I’d try something less-traditional and see if anyone here has experience/advice on how to go about finding a part time, non-flying position at a local unit? I’ve looked on the reserve vacancies list on vMPF but can’t seem to find anything useful or informative. I’m aware of the ALO gig, but want something to fall back on that pays should Isom not cut the mustard at American in the next few years… Any advice would be much appreciated!
