Due to a paperwork issue, my commissioning has been pushed back to 1 OCT, even though I graduate this May. Does anyone know if there is a waiver that can be put in to move my commissioning up?

I'm trying to locate a current UPT and IFF syllabus guide. I know in Naval flight training, there is a particular guide book that is issued to students that lists all the flight events with briefing points, skills to be performed in block and what is required to meet MIF in block. So my question: Does this exist for Air Force UPT and IFF? Another question: Where can I get a current electronic copy? Bonus question: Is there anyone here that has ever served on an Aeronautical Review Board (ARB) or been through one that I can PM for additional questions? I've already read the few threads here on ARB's, but need some insight beyond what's been said already. Many …

Hi all, I don't like to toot my horn...for the most part have lurked these forums doing as much searching as possible and reading old threads for guidance as I submit my packets. That said, I just got my scores back and am just feeling really pleased and excited, I'm sure you remember the feeling. Mostly this is a thread to just thank everyone for all the collective wisdom that exists here. There are a lot of smart people here who have worked hard to get similar scores to me so obviously many of us pre-selectees are in a similar boat but I'm happy to feel like I've taken one more small step towards the bigger goal of flying in service to our country. AFOQT/PCSM Sc…

Hi there, I've been selected to interview with the 106th RQW. I am beyond excited and preparing as well as I can. There will be a meet and greet followed by a formal interview the next morning. I've read that it's important to report in and I was wondering if that applies to civilian candidates as well. I'm guessing not, and my recruiter never said a word about it but I was also thinking that it could show that I've done my homework and am putting in the effort to do things "right". However, I also don't want to show any disrespect or cause any confusion. Is it weird if I report in? (e.g. "Candidate Garcia reports as requested")

I'm a junior in high school and I'm taking a college class that is offered by my local community college. To pass the class and get the credits you must get an A,B, or a C. The teacher informed me that only the credits pass onto your college and not the grade. Understanding now that Grades are part of your PCSM , will my grade in this class transfer to my PCSM in the future?

Hello all,I plan on applying for the 18OT02 active duty board and had a question. I want to apply for a rated slot but because I got hit with a surprise deployment in July of this year I have not been able to take the TBAS as required to apply for rated. As such, I plan on applying for this next board as a non rated applicant on the advice of my chief saying that I can also try to become a pilot after OTS selection and that now would be the best time for me as we have the support of my group leadership and above to get the 2star to sign off on my LOR and that may change by the time the next AD board rolls around because our group leadership will have changed. My question …

Just wondering if there is a specific way that letters of intent/cover letters and letters of recommendation should be addressed when applying to guard units. For example, should it be addressed the the squadron vs the wing? Any info would be much appreciated!

Taking the AFOQT next week. Any practice tests online I can take? I have a test prep book but already finished the practice test in it. Preferably free but I'll pay if I have to, appreciate any help. Seems like all the practice tests I've found are 20 questions long...total

I'm 27 years old and I honestly have no idea who to get letters of recommendations from. When your young it's easy. You have baseball coaches, teachers, etc. At 27 everyone kind just becomes an acquaintance in life. There is one older guy I attend stick and puck with. He's a retired Maj. in the Army. I don't know him super well and only seem him about once a week for an hour and a half. We make small talk and I have told him about becoming an officer. He tells me about what it was like being an Officer in the post Vietnam years. A good friend of mine owns a successful graphic design business in the Netherlands. I've done some freelance writing work for him and w…

I was suppose to take it back in March at MEPS but it was cancelled due to COVID-19. I see boards are still happening for AD, Guard Units and Reserve. Is there AFOQT testing still going on? I managed to reach the testing center at an Air Force base, they told me maybe September or October they will have testing again but they aren't sure as of right now. I want to take it, I've been waiting a year at this point. I was on a waiting list from June 2019 until March 2020 to take it at MEPS. I keep seeing Guard Boards pass me by.

Good afternoon aviators! As mentioned in the title, I was curious if there was a specific order that would maximize test scores. Hoping to get picked up for pilot, I need to start working on getting my PPL, taking the AFOQT, and the TBAS. To go more in depth, I will be starting full time college in a couple months (freshman) and part time enlisted in the guard. My plan so far was to work on the qualifications during summertime, because I think it would be hard to juggle college, work (ANG), and studying for one of the three. (PPL/AFOQT/TBAS) Is it a good idea to attempt one of the three only in the summertime to give my full attention to the tests, or is it possible …

If selected for a pilot position, your obligation to the Air National Guard will be 10 years of service upon completion of training. You will be required to fly at least 4 sorties per month, attend 1 drill weekend each month and be available for off base deployments each quarter. This application workbook contains information regarding your application for Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) with the Maine Air National Guard in Bangor. It contains the eligibility and application requirements. It also includes all of the important information that you will need to be considered for an interview. Questions regarding the application process may be directed to the Recruiti…

Got this question in my email and couldn't answer it: Does anyone know what group the AFOQT scores are "percentiled" against? Is it that current crop of test takers (ex: all test takers in Fall 2016)? All takers who have ever taken that same test form? Some other subset? I know the old Form S scores were re-centered on fall 2014 scores. I am wondering about the scores for new test takers. Thanks.

Hello everyone, I plan to take AFOQT by the end of the year. I bought a book to study; however, there are some questions that I would like to ask. 1) Which websites/ sources should I use to do more practice questions? The book does not have enough. 2) Is it a good idea to focus on Pilot & Nav score to get the best one and just have the minimum on aptitude, verbal and quantitative? 3) How did you study for Aviation Information? I have PPL, but it has been for a year, so I don't remember 100% what I learned on that. 4) English is not my first language, so how do I study for English subjects like Arithmetic Reasoning, Verbal Analogies, etc? The…

I recently interviewed "Hacker" Haskin about his time as a UPT student, UPT IP and IFF IP (amongst other things!). He shared a range of advice and thoughts across about four hours of chatting. Those looking to go to UPT might find it interesting:

I'm wondering because more than likely I won't be able to take the AFOQT until April 13th. I've been trying to take this test since last year and I've been on a waiting list since June. (The testing location only allows 6 tests every few months). I was called today and told April 13th was the earliest they could get me in. I'm going to take it for now and keep trying ROTC units. The reason I ask is my top unit choice's application deadline is April 20th. When I took the ASVAB years ago, it took the MEPS center over a week to send my scores to my recruiter. Is the AFOQT the same?

Hi all, thanks for providing such a great place for learning and guidance. I did lots of searching across the boards and still had a few questions on the ANG/Res hiring process coming from the civilian side. Some context: 31, part 121 airline captain w/ 4 yr degree, needs LASIK or PRK. Living local-ish to 3 heavy units. 1. I read that this time of year is normally quiet for UPT board announcements because it's just past the fiscal year end; should we expect to see a number of new FY21 UPT postings over the holiday season? (alt question: are heavy unit boards usually 1/year?) 2. I'd like to knock out the AFOQT+TBAS asap. With COVID, is the quickest way st…

I have looked through multiple posts here and have a pretty clear understanding of the types of potential questions asked at an interview for a Guard/AFR Base. One that has stood out is "What are your career goals once you return to drill status?" Why do ask this specific question? Are they expecting most people to say "work for the airlines"? Assuming you were selected off the streets and were previously working your regular day job, you could just return to work at said job under the protection of USERRA. Do they want their pilots to work in a pilot related field even when not on guard duty? Is that how they stay current? I don't work in aviation cur…

Got a buddy who wants to know if his son can apply to the USAF for a pilot slot with a GED. He graduated college so he has his bachelors but when in high school he dropped out for 2 months and then had to pursue the GED. I looked for some regs but came up short. Some other people have told me that he can't but figured I would ask around. Thanks

I'm looking at enrolling into Utah Valley University's online Professional Pilot B.S. Program this Fall semester and looking to see if anyone has heard or used the program. The program seems to be a good match for me (ground school online and fly at local FBO) with the family/work and any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Also, where can I found out if the bachelor degree is recognized by the USAF? I have attempted to contact the local officer recruiter to verify this, but no luck in receiving a call back. Thank you. https://www.uvu.edu/catalog/current/departments/aviation-science/aviation-science-professional-pilot-emphasis-bs/index.html
