Anyone else getting constantly bitched at about it? Saw some slides today from AMC and it looked like the C-17 bubbas were landing with 20K+ regularly

Just heard it on the radio. They say they were from the uss truman. Supposedly a 1 seater and a 2 seater. All 3 ejected, not sure if they're alright, though.

I was recently looking at an article about a unit in MN flying a Homeland Defense Mission in Hawaii (Hawaii Newspaper). The picture clearly showed a F-16 pilot standing in front of what I assume was his aircraft with his name in the caption(actually they put the wrong officers name in the first time but corrected it the next day). Is this an OPSEC violation? If I was a bad guy downrange who had been on the business end of ordanance from one of these jets he (and his family) would be high on MY target list. I wouldn't think it was smart but that's just my opinion.

I’m looking for some instrument approach procedures that are difficult or challenging or unique so we can needlessly beat ourselves up. Take a look at the approach I attached, for example. The TACAN Y 13R at KNGP is much more complicated than it needs to be, just so they can use it to teach their students. Have any of you come across any interesting approaches in your career? ngp_vor_dme_y_or_tacan_y_rwy_13r.pdf

This is a question that I do not have the experience to answer and I was wondering what other people thought about it. As far as demonstrations teams go, are the Blue Angels more skilled than the Thunderbirds or the other way around? I've seen the Thunderbirds perform a couple of times and I got to say they are pretty tight

I have been hearing some frustrating stories of uniform Nazis on a separate thread. I have seen some circumstances and instances (someone correcting another on isues such as these) come close to getting out of hand (fights, verbal arguements, etc). Honestly, the issue is this...at some point someone who has had enough (missing family, long works days, stress) is just going to snap and flip out. No one wants this. Post some good examples of how to handle uniform Nazis and rules which hinder aircrew flow, etc. What has worked in the past, what can be done? Let's spread the word.

Hey everyone, I just got picked up as a WSO and will be graduating in May. My question is what type of swim requirements are there down at PCola? As sad and embarrassing as it is...I cant swim for crap. I can doggy paddle and that is about it...can't tread water...don't know any fancy strokes (STS). Also, who else graduating in May is heading down there? Thanks -ElRoy [ 12. January 2005, 17:50: Message edited by: ElRoy ]

I feel like I am getting screwed by the Air Force. I am AFROTC and was awarded a navigator slot as a alternate in Novermber of 2004. 5 days later I was given a pilot slot. In January 05 I went to Brooks. On the 10th of this month, I was told I was DQd from pilot because of my eyes, but I was given a waiver for navigator. However, no navigator slots are available at this time. Because of this, and the timing of it all, I have been slated to be a missile/munitions maintenance officer, but I have not been given a base. They said that I may get a nav slot back if one becomes available prior to commissioning (14 May 05), but if not, I have to take the missile/munitions …

How long is the flight training for the HH-60? I am considering a move from the Army to the USAF Air Guard and will require an HH-60 transition. I am qualified and current in the UH-60 and will require just the flight training (Not UPT!). Also, I am SERE-C qualified and will not have to re-attend any SERE training. Fortunately!! Trying to workout the time line. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone I am new to Baseops and I have been a long time reader. I find this website to be one of the greatest resources anyone can come across if one is to pursue a flying career in the military. Kudos to everyone for the great work! I need some advice from those who wish to reply. I am currently a freshman in college studying electrical engineering. I have previous college experience with sophomore credits, but because I changed schools and majors, I am now a freshman….again. I chose engineering because I was involved with an engineering club in high-school. The subject really interested me. But, the real reason why I majored in engineering is because of my mom. …

How is it that people find jobs like "gymnastics coach" at the AFA? Or Jump team pilot at the AFA? Or IP for iraqi student pilots? Is there a book published that I am not aware of? And I don't suppose that there is any sort of "waiver" that allows a nav to teach AFA cadets to fly a DA20? Or even Iraqis? At this point I'll take anything..

  21. COLUMBUS, Ohio - Paul Tibbets, who piloted the B-29 bomber Enola Gay that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, died Thursday. He was 92 and insisted almost to his dying day that he had no regrets about the mission and slept just fine at night. Tibbets died at his Columbus home, said Gerry Newhouse, a longtime friend. He suffered from a variety of health problems and had been in decline for two months. Tibbets had requested no funeral and no headstone, fearing it would provide his detractors with a place to protest, Newhouse said. Tibbets' historic mission in the plane named for his mother marked the beginning of the end of World War II and eliminated the need fo…

Did a search and got a little info but not what I was really looking for. Does anyone do a side job in addition to your flying job? I am sure that it is difficult if not impossible with the current state of the Air Force but I have heard of people teaching night classes or something like that for a few extra $$$. I have been thinking of doing something like real estate or other "creative" ideas to bring in some extra cash to pay off debt. I know that to work another job you have to get permission but do you have to get the ok if you and your wife are doing some sort of venture together etc? I am basically asking if many of you do things just on the weekends or whatev…

If you have a chance, look at the inside cover of this weeks Air Force Times. You'll see the photo of a personalized 5x7 card Gen Pace left for a fallen comrade(s) at the Vietnam Wall. I wish not to spoil it for those that haven't seen or read the brief article. Character. All of us can learn from his simple display of humility. Thanks for your service sir.
