Fellas, Curious if anyone has any info on this assignment. I remember it being a choice on the dream sheet at Corpus, but don't know much else. I desperately want to get to Alaska, and with the AD Herk's gone...it might be my only choice. Not to mention it was a blast to fly the C-12 at Corpus Thanks in advance for the help

Can anyone provide a brief overview of how the Air Force mitigates against low-level bird strikes? I seem to recall from a trip to Seymour Johnson that there was a service which highlighted low-level routes where birds might be more prevalent at a given time of the year. I also believe that there was a grading system for risk. Are these systems still in effect, and are they integrated into Falcon View or similar? Is it down to the discretion of the mission commander to avoid these, or are the AFIs that mandate flagged areas be avoided? TIA

Hey, if there are any Dos Gringos fans out there and you happen to be in the Southeast, we're doing a live show Friday Sept 16th at the Mellow Mushroom in Valdosta, GA. This show will be recorded and made into a CD. The show will start around 9:30pm. We are hoping to make this the hands down party of the year! For more information, you can go to our website, www.dosgringosrocks.com. Also, we start recording our 2nd CD that weekend. Look for it to be out around the Christmas time frame.

https://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123090557 Way to go, big blue.... More change, just for the sake of change. I wonder how much the total cost will be to ditch all of the existing "CENTAF" patches and produce the new "AFCENT" patch. At least all the shoe clerks will have another uniform discrepancy to gripe about as you come into the chow hall with the "old" patch.

ERAU had a pretty rough Christmas. This afternoon, a tornado ripped through their flightline and destroyed most of their airplanes. Here are the gory pictures: My sources say they lost 50 of the 65 aircraft, and their Mx hanger got hit pretty hard, too. [ 26. December 2006, 06:04: Message edited by: Toro ]

This is a video the pilots in the scout platoon of the company I was in made in 1988 (B Co. 4-229th AAHR) at Ft. Hood, TX during our unit's start-up and reciept of the AH-64 Apache. It's a parody of the "Apache on the Move" video made by MD to tell the world how awesome the Apache was back then (and it really is, but after a while it got tiring to always hear about the Apache -- I mean the OH-5.8 had been around since the late 60's)! To really understand the parody, you should watch the actual "Apache on the Move" video, if you have time (about 10 mins). Here's the link: As far as the OH-58 Parody (called "Kiowa on the Move"), it's here, and is also about 10 …

Split from Track Select thread so as to not have it be buried, with update on the article. Best part of the night was the student who got cancer....pulled from training for 15 months...beat cancer...came back, kicked ass, got a Raptor. Fucking awesome.

  11. https://www.airforcetimes.com/article/20140515/CAREERS/305150044/Air-Force-offer-3-years-off-airmen-start-families Apparently the Navy has been doing this since 2012. I get that they will supposedly get "reset" in a new year group but won't it still be obvious when you have a 3 yr gap in OPR/EPRs?

  12. This just released... No injuries. I can't even imagine what it would be like sitting in the cockpit when that happens. No training or experience could prepare you for such a crazy situation like this when you're just chilling, parked at 0 knots. to these tow pilots.

Ladies and Gentlemen, First, I would like to say thanks to all ardent supporters of Baseops.Net, and to all the loyal customers of this site. I do appreciate everyone's concerns regarding the "AMC BAN" on Baseops, however, it does seem that several people listed in the email were inundated with phone calls, emails, complaints, and possibly death threats. Since then, the email and message threads have been removed. I do hope that the recipients of those emails, etc., understand that they were the result of our overzealous supporters fearing that Baseops.Net was being banned. This was not meant to be an attack on those individuals. Baseops.Net is however, trying to …

Okay...i apologize if someone is about to bust out the search function search function search function remark, but i did try and was unsuccessful. This question is one that i have never gotten an answer on because no one seems to know both sides of the story. I thought this would be good place to throw it out. What are the differences between life and lifestyle in a civilian aviation career and a military aviation career. Major points i am looking for include FINANCIAL (primary), family life, professional opportunities near the end of careers, and any other major pros and cons. In other words, if i were to ask you to tell me why i should spend the rest of my life in …

We lost a great one this weekend, Chris “Hook” Dupin. He was a board member here (although not active for awhile). Hook was a an F-15 WSO, TPS grad, and about to separate to the Reserves (I don’t think it had been finalized yet but I could be wrong). He owned a flight school in Destin and was really building it up, which was one of the reasons he was separating. Hook was flying with a student in his RV-12 (I actually flew with him in it the day after he bought it for the company) and crashed shortly after takeoff. He survived the crash but succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. I’ve been at a complete loss for words since I found out a couple days ago. I didn’…

Does anyone have any experience with the Stratux ADS-B puck? I’m looking into buying one because, from all appearances, it offers similar functionality to the Stratus 2S at 1/4 the cost.

My squadron CC had his class picture at PIT in front of the new grey and black schemed plane. The final shade of grey will be similar to the light grey on the T-38's and it will have black on top of the cowling (like it does now) and on the leading edges of the wings. It looks pretty cool. He said AETC is still deciding the final shade but it should be approved and on the T-6's in the next year.

  23. I washed out of IFF. I'm flying heavies now and doing just fine. Will my IFF failure affect my hireability with the major airlines or package delivery companies in the future? Anyone have any experience with this situation? Any suggestions on how to approach the topic if it comes up? Thanks. If this is more appropriate for the Road To Wings QnA I'll move it there.

  24. Anyone know what the spread was on "Definetly Retain" / "Retain" / "Do Not Retain"? I'm starting to hear that as many as 80% of RRF's got "DF's" and the top-of-the-bottom of the barrel is "retain"....any insights out there? I.e. - do dudes with "retain" need to be worried?
