Disclaimer: This is an adult discussion about air show related crashes and what can be done (if anything) to prevent them. It is intended for mature forum members only. So, all of you ROTC, Academy, and 4Chan fucks need to stay out. Since the Barnstorming days, accidents have happened and aviators and spectators have died. How can we help to prevent it? Now I can only speak for AMC, and we have had our fair share of accidents though time. My question is really related to dedicate vs. “available” Demo crews. Now I know ACC in the past has had specific A-10, F-16, ect. Demo pilots. As I understood it this was their job for a time. Am I correct? Now in AMC there ar…

  3. Mexican aerial drone crashes in backyard of El Paso home EL PASO (AP) — An unmanned drone belonging to the Mexican government crash landed Tuesday in El Paso's Lower Valley, officials confirmed today. "I was told that it crashed in somebody's back yard, and that no one was injured. I was paged at 6:28 p.m. on Tuesday, so it happened shortly before that. We were told it was not a police matter," said Detective Mike Baranyay, a spokesman for the El Paso Police Department. The crash occurred at Yarbrough and Loop 375. Police said the U.S. Border Patrol seized the aircraft, which was to be transported back to one of the international bridges so that Mexican offici…

Pretty cool gig... LeMieux: Tyndall to Gain T-38 Detachment BY: Unattributed , WMBB News 13 11/30/2010 Washington, DC: U.S. Senator George LeMieux (R-FL) today announced the Air Force will be sending a T-38 detachment to Tyndall Air Force Base. The ten T-38s will provide dedicated adversary support to the F-22s currently stationed at the base. “This is fantastic news for Tyndall Air Force Base and the Panama City area,” said LeMieux, a member of the U.S. Senate Armed Service Committee. “This detachment will complement the existing F-22 program operating out of Tyndall. Bringing more planes to the area will also bring more jobs, increasing economic activity thro…

Hey everybody! I hope to someday become a C-17 pilot for the USAF. It's a long ways away but hopefully I can go from USAF ROTC at a flight college, then to SUPT fly the T-6 and T-1, then hopefully the C-17. I'm not even close yet but I am already planning and studying civilian flight textbooks. (FAA Airplane Flying Handbook, Private Pilot Training Textbooks... Etc...) Here are just a few questions for C-17 pilots or any other people that know about the plane: 1. For training, I'm guessing lots of it is in the simulator, but how many flights do you get in the actual plane? 2. How many hours of countable flight time (Sim, or real) do you get at training? 3. How much time…

Is it true that if you have been deployed to the box or areas around it, you can't donate blood for 1 year? If so, why? May be a dumb question, but a friend said this was true yet I was never told about after my trip. Thanks

  7. Jerusalem (CNN) -- The Israeli Air Force shot down an unidentified flying object over the Dimona nuclear plant in the Negev Desert Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces said. The object appeared in a designated no-fly zone, the air force was scrambled and the object was shot down, the IDF said. The object could have been a party balloon, the IDF said, but forces have not yet found the debris to determine what it was. There have been unconfirmed media reports that it was a motor-driven object. The air force reacted according to procedure when the object was spotted, the IDF said. The Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz reported that last October "IDF warplanes interc…

Does anyone know what the deal is with the Guard/Reserve man days? I read an article today about the tanker units in the northeast having to cancel their support of the tanker bridge over the Atlantic because they do not have man days. Our unit (AETC) has been told there are absolutely no MPA days available in the foreseeable future. This affects our part time guys who are wanting to bum with us or go fly with our active duty counterparts here in the C-130 FTU at Little Rock. It seems to be an issue across the board.

Looking to find a ways to fund a PPL, grants, financial aid, loans, etc. I'm aware that the GI Bill will refund up to 60% of all certifications AFTER a PPL but the first 5 or 6 grand is still hard to come by. Thanks for any help.

FG, Wanted to take moment to formally recognize you and say thanks for your participation and input on this forum. Unfortunately, this forum highlights the often negative relationship between Ops and Support. You are definitely in the business of taking care of folks as demonstrated by the number and depth of questions you answer. How in the world you found your way to a forum full of prima dona aviators is a mystery, the fact that you stayed and have contributed and helped so many people is a testament to the type of professional you are. On behalf of all the folks you have helped on this board, thanks! CH

I am an old National Guard Logistics Officer getting ready to take my first deployment since Desert Storm (and the last one before I retire). I have a choice of going to Arifjan, Thumrait, or Ali Al Salem. I'd appreciate any feedback anyone can give me on the pros and cons of each of these locations. Particularly looking for things like: The OPSTEMPO at each location (I'd like to keep busy) What the facilities are like (quarters, workcenters, MWR, etc..) Communication capabilities (internet, phone access, wi-fi, etc...) Queep level

I'm assuming that there are places around Laughlin to pick up cockpit trainers, but does anyone know for sure? I tried getting onto a website recommended by a guy that just finished pilot training but the site was down. Hell, if anyone has a used one, throw it on eBay and make back some cash!

Wall Street Journal December 6, 2010 Pg. 1 China Clones, Sells Russian Fighter Jets By Jeremy Page ZHUHAI, China—A year after the collapse of the Soviet Union, a cash-strapped Kremlin began selling China a chunk of its vast military arsenal, including the pride of the Russian air force, the Sukhoi-27 fighter jet. For the next 15 years, Russia was China's biggest arms supplier, providing $20 billion to $30 billion of fighters, destroyers, submarines, tanks and missiles. It even sold Beijing a license to make the Su-27 fighter jet—with imported Russian parts. Today, Russia's military bonanza is over, and China's is just beginning. After decades of import…

A couple weeks ago Charleston came out with a new policy that requires the following when flying with WG & OG leadership: - Crew BIOs submitted in advance. - AC and SQ/CC brief flight (local or mission) profile to the WG/CC or OG/CC three days prior. - AC meets/salutes WG/CC or OG/CC at the aircraft door. - No "excessive" FLIP or PRO gear allowed in the cockpit or crew rest area. Today I stopped by AFE and discovered that several new VIP shelves have been added to the front lobby so the brass can get their gear 6.9 seconds faster than the rest of us. I wish I'd seen the pitch meeting where it was suggested that the most easily accessible …

Hey first time posting here, but have been using this site as reference for some time now. Anyways, I'm a pilot in an active duty squadron at my first duty location. Deployments are pretty slow in our unit right now and I'm curious what the process would be in order to deploy with a different unit, either active duty or guard/reserve. Is there someone I can talk to at AFPC? I'm really curious about filling a flying spot at a unit that is being exhausted by their own deployment schedule and maybe taking someone's spot who would like a chance to sit a deployment out. I'm looking to build my experience as a young pilot and right now we are under flown, and we're not getting …

Hello everyone, As a proud sponsor of Baseops.net, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jim Gilmore. I'm the owner of www.AimHigherJets.com. For the past three years I've built the store from scratch with the goal to turn it into my full time job in the near future. We aren't the typical hobby store. We carry hundreds of military diecast airplanes. But our niche is that we produce extremely high quality customized mahogany models. These aren't your typical mahogany models that you might find at the BX or from overseas. Our models are extremely detailed with custom tail flashes, tail numbers, pitot tubes, windshield wipers and antennas where appropria…

I have some 'basic' questions about my knowledge in the military. My apologies for any knowledge that are obvious and should be known by now. I'm a High School Senior and I'm looking forward to the ROTC (Scholarship) Program, but I'm not sure. For now, the Air Force interests me most, then Army, then Navy which I'm not exactly sure if I should apply for it. Perhaps I might apply to all of them and consider later with their scholarship offers. But in any case, I'm going for an Engineering Major (Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical). Now I've looked around the forums and to my knowledge, many people who know they want to be straight-up pilots when commissioned, majo…

All, I am completing my Masters paper at ERAU by conducting a study of PRK and LASIK on pilots. If you have received refractive surgery and are flying, I would appreciate your time completing the survey at the following link: Refractive Surgery Survey If the link will not work the survey is located at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SN8WDZM The survey can be completed in just a few minutes and is totally anonymous. Toro has approved adding the survey link to this forum. Thank you for your time, J.
