A quick search didn't show any results for info concerning Holloman, so I'm starting a new thread. Wife and I are headed to Holloman in a few months for B-Course and are trying to figure out whether to live on/off base and if off, where the good places to live are, as well as any useful info for the local area.

I had a couple of questions for guys/gals at Corpus or who have been through their before. 1. How many T-44's and how many TC-12's are in the two units there? 2. Does the TC-12 have any type of glass cockpit? 3. How many T-44C's does VT-31 have at this point?

I understand the basic U,F,G,E and downgrade grading system at UPT but I was wondering exactly what types of things count as downgrades during flights? How much do you have to bust airspeed or altitude to get a downgrade? what other things would you get a downgrade for? what things would cause you to hook a ride? if you have specific examples from rides that would help. Thanks.

We know UPT is stressful. But it is stressful likely because the students are learning new stuff and have never done it before. I believe some of the stress can be taken off if you have prior training that is similar and therefore can perform well on rides. It is easy to do something that you have already done before. I am interested to fly formation, low level flying, maneuvers, tactics, etc with a private instructor and a private aircraft in order to prepare better for UPT. I live in New York city, and if anyone who is/was a fighter/aerobatic pilot and lives in the area is interested to teach few lessons, I am willing to pay out of pocket. Please PM me if anyo…

WTFO? The crawler on the bottom of the screen for an ABC news program just said that the US military is announcing that a servicemember shot and killed a civilian on a US base in Krygyzstan. Edit: military dude killed someone, not other way around This could get interesting. AP article [ 06. December 2006, 15:50: Message edited by: Herk Driver ]

https://www.wcnc.com/news/topstories/storie...h.1b3b58b1.html Looks like Ed Shipley. Interesting to see if this complicates the ongoing investigation into T. Mike. Best wishes to Ed's family, friends and employees. They may look neat and are straightforward to fly, but make no mistake, these first generation jet fighters have many unforgiving aspects, with worthless egress systems. Potentially dangerous machines. Robert Guillford Jimmy Rossi Tom Delashaw Come to mind. I don't know about Shipley or Guillford's reputations, but Rossi and Deleshaw were world-class, experienced aviators. [ 31. July 2006, 20:01: Message edited by: Toro ]

Feel free to move if this would go better elsewhere. My wife and I were curious if it is possible to use the military to help get lower interest rates on her student loans (currently at 6.9%)? Anyone have any familiarity with something like this?

How long is the flight training for the HH-60? I am considering a move from the Army to the USAF Air Guard and will require an HH-60 transition. I am qualified and current in the UH-60 and will require just the flight training (Not UPT!). Also, I am SERE-C qualified and will not have to re-attend any SERE training. Fortunately!! Trying to workout the time line. Thanks in advance.

For the T-38, the takeoff Refusal Speed is computed using a 3" reaction time, during which the aircraft continues to accelerate. In other aircraft, the speed is based on starting the abort at that speed, with no reaction time. I'd like to know what is done in other aircraft in the military. I'm not looking for "technique", just what is in your flight manual when it comes to the consideration that was used in creating your performance charts. Bombers, trainers, fighters, heavies... let me know. Post it here or drop me a pm.

Who would give the AF grenades to begin with..WTF? Brilliant idea when most people from what I recall misplaced their weapons a lot in Iraq and Afghanistan. We had personnel receiving paperwork for it. So who do you think will get fired for #lostgrenades? https://gizmodo.com/the-air-force-would-appreciate-some-help-finding-a-box-1826056964

Hello Everyone. I was originally pursuing a pilot slot; however, due to a certain medication that I am on, I am unable to even get past MEPS. I have done everything possible, but I am not ready to accept the risk of quitting the medication right now. With this being the case, I would still like to be involved in any way possible with the military aviation world. In your experience, have there been any civilian positions that work closely with the squadrons or Air Force as a whole? I have a bachelor's degree and a couple of years of professional work experience. However, most of the available civilian jobs I have found on usajobs .com are sim/technical instructo…

https://medium.com/war-is-boring/ff4662469f95 Ambiguous strategic effect? I'm going to go out on a limb and say the bombing of Honshu (Japan's main island) and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had a very large strategic effect...as in ending WWII. A short google search shows that this guy has written numerous papers about the Navy. (https://www.uky.edu/~rmfarl2/Farleycv.htm) Including "The Future of US Naval Power" (is that bias I smell?)

Wonder how surprised they were to have those bombs dropped on them, and if the bad weather was part of their plan of attack.

Hey everyone. I’ve looked everywhere online and done multiple searches on this forum to find the answer to this question but haven’t been able to find anything concrete. Do pilots commonly switch aircraft within their types (cargo, tankers, afsoc aircraft, fighters) or do they stay on the same airframe for their entire career? For example, do C17 pilots commonly switch to the C5 or C130 in their career or do they stay with the C17? Thanks in advance!

Anybody know of another way to check NOTAMS besides DINS (notams.jcs.mil)? I've got my T-1 Nav check tomorrow and DINS has been down since yesterday. Thanks in advance.

I was always curious about how much fuel the military burned. 128.3 million barrels, or $8.8 billion worth last year according to the article. And I thought $20 - $25 a tank was high. Pentagon battles high fuel costs
