Well here I am a month from starting my journey to becoming a pilot. I'll be starting college and AFROTC. Of course, I've been pretty lazy this summer and I told myself I need to start exercising to get back into shape. I'm actually pretty busy (work 7 days a week, almost all day... family business) but I plan on working out in the morning. Just curious what all of you do to stay in shape? Just run and sit-ups and push ups? Or have you found it beneficial enough to get a membership at a local gym? I figured just running, sit ups, and push ups would do it but I'm no expert in exercising. I use to lift but I'm not in good 'ol high school anymore where it was free. …

I want to start using an online logbook. I have heard of many people keeping their logbook on Excel, but I like the redundancy of the internet. Does anyone currently use an online logbook or have a recommendation about which one to use?

https://www.wcnc.com/news/topstories/storie...h.1b3b58b1.html Looks like Ed Shipley. Interesting to see if this complicates the ongoing investigation into T. Mike. Best wishes to Ed's family, friends and employees. They may look neat and are straightforward to fly, but make no mistake, these first generation jet fighters have many unforgiving aspects, with worthless egress systems. Potentially dangerous machines. Robert Guillford Jimmy Rossi Tom Delashaw Come to mind. I don't know about Shipley or Guillford's reputations, but Rossi and Deleshaw were world-class, experienced aviators. [ 31. July 2006, 20:01: Message edited by: Toro ]

All,I am starting to apply for UPT positions and I have a few questions. I amcurrently an AGR TSgt and if picked up for a UPT position I understand that atleast to begin with for most units it will be a part time job. I want to beready for the temporary financial change etc. My questions are as follows:1) How much does a typical member fly in a tanker, C-130 or fighter unit?2) How much opportunity is there to guard bum? Can you deploy to augment otherunits that may have pilot shortages as long as it is the same airframe?3) After completion of UPT you obviously have limited flying experience &hours, what kind of pilot jobs could you qualify for with that?

Interesting interaction between Whitmer and POTUS this evening, with a gift from Trump?: https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/macomb-county/2025/04/29/donald-trump-selfridge-air-national-guard-base-retiring-fighter-jets-macomb-county-michigan/83332234007/?fbclid=IwY2xjawJ-VKVleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFWRzNlUGtoS2lNOXJ1UkRjAR4U2ZwfOo_-YOo6KhCTIxANZ1qOtgugbUamFhqUfYAiiQlwfKN5wCApyHBkVQ_aem_hOGZv8sA4ZhAwrbCXOxQig

I sat static all weekend at the Fort Smith Air Show. Saw the T-Chickens put on their first show of the season. The one to see was the new F-15E demo team though. It was awesome! Almost as good as the people watching in northern Arkansas. Family trees look like telephone poles there. The A-10, F-4 and F-18F did great as well.

I understand the basic U,F,G,E and downgrade grading system at UPT but I was wondering exactly what types of things count as downgrades during flights? How much do you have to bust airspeed or altitude to get a downgrade? what other things would you get a downgrade for? what things would cause you to hook a ride? if you have specific examples from rides that would help. Thanks.

https://medium.com/war-is-boring/ff4662469f95 Ambiguous strategic effect? I'm going to go out on a limb and say the bombing of Honshu (Japan's main island) and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had a very large strategic effect...as in ending WWII. A short google search shows that this guy has written numerous papers about the Navy. (https://www.uky.edu/~rmfarl2/Farleycv.htm) Including "The Future of US Naval Power" (is that bias I smell?)

Hello! Please feel free to move this if it’s not in the appropriate section. I’m currently an enlisted aviator that was selected for OTS/UPT in July (still waiting on dates). I’m interested in knowing what the average assignment length looks like for pilots, from what I can tell it’s 3-4 years. I assume it’s that way for most of the Air Force, but I have basically no experience with that since my shred can only go to 2 bases (I’ve been OCONUS for 4 years now, I know people that have done 9 year tours here or stayed at the CONUS base their entire career). I’m asking because my wife, who’s currently in the same career field as me but separating soon, wants to go …

Decade forecast from Stratfor, sounds plausible, world somewhat FUBAR somewhat functional. https://www.stratfor.com/forecast/decade-forecast-2015-2025 Here's the Jack Ryan part: It is unlikely that the Russian Federation will survive in its current form. Russia's failure to transform its energy revenue into a self-sustaining economy makes it vulnerable to price fluctuations. It has no defense against these market forces. Given the organization of the federation, with revenue flowing to Moscow before being distributed directly or via regional governments, the flow of resources will also vary dramatically. This will lead to a repeat of the Soviet Union's experi…

Reading some interesting C-model pubs and it mentions that training in the 300-100 foot AGL range should be in short segments consistent with real world risks, etc. How often do albinos do that stuff? How often do you other fighter guys really get down in the weeds, like below 500 AGL??

I've seen a lot of people around work wearing "under armour" shirts under their bags. Ever seen the stuff? Really thin fabric...like a polyester/spandex blend that's supposed to keep you cool and wick water away from your body and keep you dry when you're sweating. Well, I know that dudes in Iraq are lovin the stuff for under their BDUs, and professional athletes totally swear by it. I used to wear it as an under shirt when I'd run a lot, and I loved it. What about pilots? As far as safety, I've heard two schools of thought. Some people think that the flammability factor isn't really huge when you have a nomex bag over it, but our local flight docs aren't huge …

WTFO? The crawler on the bottom of the screen for an ABC news program just said that the US military is announcing that a servicemember shot and killed a civilian on a US base in Krygyzstan. Edit: military dude killed someone, not other way around This could get interesting. AP article [ 06. December 2006, 15:50: Message edited by: Herk Driver ]

In 2020, she transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in 2021. Hahahahahahahahahahahah!!!

Wonder how surprised they were to have those bombs dropped on them, and if the bad weather was part of their plan of attack.

I'm going to try something today...I'm going to work with my sleeves rolled up Navy-style and my leg zippers half-unzipped. Being in AETC, I give it 2 hours before some shoe clerk weenie says something to me about it. I'll let you all know how it goes. I'm such a rebel.
