Looks like I may be living in Egypt for a bit. Anyone been there (TDY or otherwise)? Any tips/pointers/insults/vicious personal attacks?

This question is not aimed at any particular model of aircraft. I would like to know if DME indications during an MLS approach are received through the TACAN or by a seperate internal MLS component. Thanks.

I am sure some relic-lovers will enjoy this. The link below has some pics I took of great Air Force machines fading into history out in Avon Park bombing range. Full-screen versions print out well. https://hollysid.tripod.com/sid/index.album?i=2

An article in the Wall Street Journal this AM stating Sec gates is in favor of increasing Tricare premiums for retirees. I am sure the retired groups will be up in arms, but it seems to make sense to me. Enrollment fees have not changed since the program was founded in 1996 and the cost for a family would increase from $460 to $520 per year, that sounds more than fair and reasonable to me. Another change is to encourage the use of the mail-order pharmacy, no co-pay for using the service, certainly a reasonable option for non-time critical medicines. The co-pay would increase $3 if you still want to use a local pharmacy. With all the other cuts backs and issues faci…

Allcon, If you had your choice between ATC or being a commercial pilot, what would you choose? I hold all ratings in the control tower, RAPCON, and center to include Watch Supervisor. Not to toot my own horn, but I hold all FAA complex ratings. However, I love flying and in another 7 hours plus the long X-C, I will hold commercial with instrument ratings. Why do I bring this up? In as little as 500 hours I can become a pilot with several regionals without ATP hours and can build on the regional carriers. I love to fly...God, do I love to fly, but ATC is a job that I look forward to doing. I absolutely, without question, love to perform ATC duties; damn, I love A…

Since informing me of my selection to UPT, it seems I've been placed aside in "the holding pattern." I was pulled off of a deployment so that "someone who is going to be here can gain more experience." Additional ERT's and upcoming TDY's have escaped me for the same, "we need to train new folks." While I thoroughly enjoy being pulled from BattleStaff with my inevitable departure, I'm screaming "WTF! I'm here for 6 more months!" While some LT's in my group were given the, "Thank you for your service, have a nice life...let me know if you need a letter of recommendation," other changes have now felt the ripple effect, bringing me to my point... I learned a …

I just found this site and it seems very helpful for those who post questions on here so I guess I'll give it a go. I have some questions about what my fiance and I should do when I leave for UPT next Spring. We have been together for 5 years and engaged for 7 months. We are going to wait until after UPT to get married but thats not the issue. The problem is being apart for a year, or more. I would consider asking her to come with me but she is will still be finishing up college so I can't ask her that. Honestly, how rough is it going to be for us next year when I leave. I am excited to go, I really can't wait. But at the same time its going to be a long year be…

Hello, I am conducting research regarding runway incursion reporting as part of the research requirement for a Master of Aeronautical Science degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The purpose of this research is to identify whether differences exist among different organizations in terms of how often runway incursions are reported. All participation is voluntary and anonymous. In order to participate you must be over 18 years old and have worked in the last three years as: An air traffic controller at either a US military or civilian airfield -OR- An airport manager or in airport operations at an airport that had a functioning air traffic control tower I…

https://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123252966 Looks like you'll need 300 days in an 18 mo period or 548 in 3 years. Lots of folks will already hit those numbers. Others, not so much.

Critics say you're cuttng the wrong systems-ISR systems-to buy more fighters. "First, I can only cut personnel 8 more times like we did, before we have no AF. Second, the F-22 is the best sensor on the battlefield, bar none, including the E10, which can't get close enough to the battlefield to make a difference." When asked if the F-22 is the answer: "We are looking at how you do long range recce and strike. We are following Moore's Law to pack more density onto our assets. With Global Hawk and Predator, we have deep penetration and are getting SA in a remarkable way." Nothing like contradicting yourself in statements right after one another. Looks like …

Can anyone shed some light on how much the flying experience of a nav differs from that of a pilot? Will a nav ever experience visual stimulations similar to that of a pilot? Excluding future opportunities outside of the Air Force, if a civilian pilot applying to OTS really wants to fly, will they be disappointed as a nav?

https://www.military.com/daily-news/2021/02/18/air-force-t-38-trainer-jet-suffers-landing-gear-mishap-no-injuries-reported.html 18 Feb 2021 Military.com | By Oriana Pawlyk A U.S. Air Force T-38 Talon trainer jet out of Beale Air Force Base, California, experienced a landing gear mishap when touching down at Sacramento's Mather Airport, the service said Thursday. Here is the situation, I am prior service with ten years enlisted. I have recently completed a commissioning program and have been on hold to enter active duty due to the draw down. I am two weeks out from my training start dates and I still do not have orders. What we have been told is that AFPC finance is backed up with thousands of orders and apparently no method for completing them for individuals who are leaving in the next few weeks. My concerns are the following: can I proceed to training without orders, how can I PCS my family to my gaining station without orders, and how do I cover the cost of my training since I do not have a GTC. I would appreciate any advice a…

Hey, does anyone know what the deal is the these turk shotguns. I've heard more than a couple people talk about them now. They make it sound like people who are TDY over there are bringing them back by the dozens. I'm just curious...I like guns.
