On an earlier post (First Command), someone said SGLI does not cover combat/aviation deaths. Is this true?

Ok, I did a search first, and no luck. Anyone at Sheppard give me the dimensions of the dorms? If you have pictures of the dorm that would be nice. TMO told me they are going to keep most of my stuff here, and send only what I want access to (ie, can store in my room) to Sheppard. So I'm wanting to see if I have room for my entertainment center, and what else I might have room for. Thanks, BTW, I get to Sheppard 25Feb

Just heard about this... T-6 Instructor Pilot Dies After Ejection Seat Goes Off on the Ground (airandspaceforces.com) An Air Force instructor pilot died early in the morning on May 14 from injuries sustained when the pilot’s T-6A Texan II training plane ejection seat activated during ground operations the day before, the 82nd Training Wing at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, announced in a press release. “An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway,” the wing wrote, adding that the pilot’s name is being withheld for 24 hours to notify his or her next of kin. https://www.dodbuzz.com/2015/01/16/general-praising-the-a-10-to-lawmakers-is-treason/ General: Praising the A-10 to Lawmakers is ‘Treason’ By Brendan McGarry Friday, January 16th, 2015 2:13 pm Posted in Air, Policy A top U.S. Air Force general warned officers that praising the A-10 attack plane to lawmakers amounts to “treason,” according to a news report. Maj. Gen. James Post, vice commander of Air Combat Command, was quoted as saying, “If anyone accuses me of saying this, I will deny it … anyone who is passing information to Congress about A-10 capabilities is committing treason,” in a report published Thursday on The Arizona Daily Independent. In a response to…

Full size pick-up question: My truck exceeds 20 measurement tonnes. Do I get stuck with the difference in cost to get up to my shipment size, or do I pay the entire shipment fee? Port and TMO are both out to lunch on this. Literally, I can't get anyone after 11 am in most places.

Anyone ever done it? I'm considering the option because I don't want to add the miles. I have a short term PCS across the country but will be coming back to the same station after 6 months. Will add +/- 6,000 miles to the odometer if I take the drive. I understand that the GOV will only pay for it if it's cheaper than driving, so I am looking into paying out of pocket as well. Any insights or experiences are appreciated. I'll essentially be moving from the pacific ocean to the atlantic.

Does anyone know what the requirements are for shipping personal firearms to AK? I'm on my first PCS and have a bolt action rifle I want to take with me. Am I supposed to have TMO move it, or do I keep it on me and just put it in check baggage on the plane? I also considered having some family FedEX it to me once I find a permanent residence. I have a TDY enroute so I don't know if that will make a difference or not. The main point is: I'm not driving and want to know what's the proper way to move my rifle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I remember hearing that if you get stationed at Mildenhall or Lakenheath you have to put your pets in quarantine for X number of days/weeks. Is this still in effect? What's the story on this? I'm hoping to get stationed at Mildenhall, so I'm curious as to how this works (I've got 2 dogs). [ 09. April 2004, 18:39: Message edited by: backseatdriver ]

Considering putting the UK on the dreamsheet out of the FTU, and I'm having a difficult time finding the regs for importing a vehicle. I've found the UK customs website, but it's going to take some time to decipher that document. Does anybody have some good techniques or gouge for bringing in a newer vehicle? It's an 07 Tacoma if it matters. Cheers

“Unidentified silver/gray cylindrical object” shot down over Alaska and Canada! It’s like they are deliberately trying to create conspiracy theories! I would have called it a drone dirigible but hey, what do I know!

I'm trying to find someone with experience as a shooter and rated aircrew. I am reaching a major crossroads and am looking for all the advice I can get. Here's what I'd like to know from anyone willing to offer: Whether you went from SOF to pilot/nav or vice versa (rare, I know), are you happy with the choice you made and would you make the same decision again? Also, from your experience would you recommend one more than the other? Thank you in advance for your responses. So everyone has some idea who they're responding to...I'm 25 and grew up in a family of shooters (PJ, SEAL). I know, although only second-hand, the pluses and minuses of life in the SOF world. B…

https://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123252966 Looks like you'll need 300 days in an 18 mo period or 548 in 3 years. Lots of folks will already hit those numbers. Others, not so much.

I have 800K of life insurance through AAFMAA for $35/month and $300K through AFA for about $16/month. I also have $400K of SGLI, which happens to be the most expensive of the three. $1.5 million is a little excessive for us, is there any reason why I shouldn't cancel SGLI? My one concern is that I trust SGLI will be quicker and more reliable in paying than AAFMAA and AFA. AAFMAA and AFA don't have a war or aviation clause, and as near as I can tell they are both legitament companies, however, I don't really know if there is some small print that I didn't read in the coverage that will preclude my family from getting the death benefit. Any input? Thanks

Hey guys, Just want to get your opinion on an ART job that was offered to me recently. I'm a 1LT 30 years old. I guess I'm trying to decide whether it is best to run with the offer or remain a trougher. If I remain a trougher I would probably shoot for building airline time. However, with the ART job it seems as if it's more of an AF reserve career move. I've never been dead set for the airlines (especially now with the low hiring rate and the potential for no retirement or guaranteed salary). My goal was to fly for the Air Force the airlines are only interesting for the seemingly easy job it is and the money. I'm looking for advice from airline guys and fro…

Greetings, I'll start with a disclaimer: I feel absolutely blessed to have the opportunity to fly with the Air Force, every unit is different, and I want to fly as much as possible with my unit for the next few years. Question for the Reserve guys who have been around and have some experience with TDARTs vs ARTs vs TRs. I'm coming up on PIQ and will then go on to fly Hercs, and not sure if I should sign up for the TDART program or not. I really like the flexibility of orders (and money) as well as the retirement points. Am I wrong in assuming that TDARTs get limited retirement points similar to ARTs? I will also have my ATP coming out of PIQ so I could potenti…
