Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Here is a film clip from the Austrian national archives of the Wright Brothers demonstrating their plane in Italy in 1909. What is even more fantastic is there was an on-board camera on the Wright plane and the last part of this film shows it. It's crystal clear, and apparently the first in flight footage taken - anywhere. Wilbur Wright is at the controls on both of the flights. https://www.europafilmtreasures.eu/PY/322/fiche_technique.htm?ID=322 ://https://www.europafilmtreasures.eu/P...que.htm?ID=322 ://https://www.europafilmtreasures.eu/P...que.htm?ID=322 Talk about a heritage flight... 2. Win a Champ! $50/ticket or $125 for three tickets. Only 4,000 tickets total, so odds are good. It's a 1946 LSA 7AC Champ that I haven't flown much in recent years due to military moves. I finally found a better purpose for it. Get raffle tickets here. Some friends and I created a non-profit, Vets to Jets, to fund flight training grants for veterans and enlisted folks. The idea is that vets/enlisted have to either make life-changing decisions or pay some high hurdle costs to get into flight training (Post 9/11 GI Bill does not fund private pilot unless at an institute for higher learning). Vets to Jets is a 501(c)3 organization. Please pass this on to folks you t…

Absolute carnage at the holiday parade. Kind of crazy that in this day and age we have to speculate a terror attack, revenge for the Rittenhouse verdict or a horrible DUI.

Fell into a few hundred bucks of unexpected money and next up on my things I want but definately don't need list are wood models of the aircraft I've flown (T-34C, T-1A, C-17). So, where is the best place to get these? I don't particularly need them super specialized, but it would be nice to at least get the right tail on them (ex: E for 34s, VN for the T-1)... Seems like there's a lot of options out there, and all seem shady. Anyone have any good experiences with any one particular company?

  8. I am working on my post-VSP pipe dream. I have been talking to Cameron-Brooks and trying to separate the sales pitch from reality. I think I heard the guy salivating over his commission already. Has anyone had any luck breaking into the finance or consulting industries in Chicago, New York, Boston, etc? Any constructive advice or contacts would be appreciate. Stats for reference: Did well at the Zoo, the AF (multiple strats, awards), and MBA (4.0, Brick and Mortar, but not top tier). Just a simple What are my chances? question for the real world. Thanks.

Any baseball fans out there? The division series games so far have been surprising to say the least. The Cubs, Brewers, and White Sox are all choking harder than Mama Cass on a ham sandwich. It's been fun to see all the bandwagon Cubs fans on their sinking ship. Anyways here are my picks: (I know, I know. It's a little late to start a predictions thread after the 2 games, but better late than never.) Divisional Series: Rays over White Sox Angels over BoSox Dodgers over Cubs Phillies over Brewers League Championship Series Angels over Rays Dodgers over Phillies World Series: Angels over Dodgers in 6 games

Got this from a history buff pal of mine. Enjoy! ******************* This from history buff Col D. G. Swinford, USMC, Ret. You have to dig deep for facts like these: 1. The first German serviceman killed in WW II was killed by the Japanese ( China , 1937), the first American serviceman killed was killed by the Russians ( Finland 1940); highest ranking American killed was Lt Gen Lesley McNair, killed by the US Army Air Corps. So much for allies. 2. The youngest US serviceman was 12 year old Calvin Graham, USN. He was wounded and given a Dishonorable Discharge for lying about his age. His benefits were later restored by act of Congress. 3. At the t…

World's Dumbest Pilots ...In 2008, pilot Jeffrey Paul Bradford tried to spice up his time in Harrisburg, PA, with stewardess Adrianna Connor. After dinner and drinks, the Pinnacle Airlines employees dashed into the nearby woods for a romp. When they got separated, she got lost and he hid in a barn.

With some of the last drops of Jeremiah weed being consumed as I write this, a bro and I have been discussing a Worldwide roll-call to finish off the very last bottles of Weed known to be in existence. If you and/or your squadron want to get in on the action, message me. More to follow on other platforms as well.

I got this ink right after I got back from FIELD TRAINING to symbolize that, as a POC, I'm now part of the WORLD'S GREATEST AIR FORCE. The POWERFUL Asian owl symbolizes the AIRPOWER that my service can unleash upon our enemies, all across the world, the AIR FORCE symbol is self explanatory and CHARLIE - MIKE symbolizes CONTINUE MISSION, because that's what I'm going to do from the cockpit of my F-22, regardless of any obstacle that I may run into. A few individuals have construed that "Charlie - Mike" is an allusion to the two male models who showed me a great night in South Beach last Spring Break. They just don't understand AIR FORCE vocabulary, though, and I'm sure…

  15. Written by an Air Force Bgen . . . This guy says it like it is and was. When the country is in trouble it wants the "Pappy Boyingtons" and his group to fight, but in peacetime, they want the politically correct crowd. His reference to Tailhook is because he learned to fly in the Navy, flying the A-4 and A-7 before moving over to the Guard. By BGEN Greg Stroud (Ret) Some of you know that I was recently "retired" as the 162 Fighter Wing Commander. The decision was made by Brig Gen Mike Colangelo, theArizona Air Commander, who replaced me because he "just wants to change the culture at the 162nd." Not for cause or performance or any other reason. This officer never…

Tell-all interview covers Iraq withdrawal, nuclear report, procurement and more The June 5 forced resignations of Air Force Secretary Michael W. Wynne and Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley — the first time in U.S. history the top uniformed and civilian leaders of any service were ousted simultaneously — shocked the Air Force and highlighted deep fissures between the Pentagon and Air Force leadership. Wynne sat down July 9 for a wide-ranging discussion with Military Times editors and reporters, explaining why he was really fired, what went wrong with the nuclear enterprise, what can be done about Iraq and how he sees the future of the Air Force. The questions…
