Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I was wondering since PJs and pilots probably have the highest adrenaline jobs in the military, and they're related in that way, have any of you current pilots ever considered PJ (before commissioning)? I know a lot of guys have tunnel vision about flying (not in a negative way) but maybe some of you found some interest in pararescue when you were in college or even before. Just food for thought.

With the presidential debate going on tonight and the approaching elections, the following questioned popped in my head: does a specific political party have more effect over the other on the Air Force? I.e. Budgets, Leadership, etc.

Anyone listen to Dave Smith on Coleman Hughes' podcast? It's loonnnggg (3.5 hours), and I can't understand how Coleman can stand to play nice with one of the most dishonest "pundits" in media right now, but it was fascinating to hear how full of shit Smith is. Despite his ignorance, Smith is a pretty good example of why libertarianism is an unworkable political philosophy and is more of a starting point for American thought. There's definitely too many comedians parading around as political historians and analysts.

I seem to remember that you could delay your postmission crewrest, but I forget where a reg like that might even be. Anyone heard of it? I have been delayed again from getting outta here and now our leave is going to coincide with our postmission which is a waste of postmission. So I rather use my postmission after I come back from leave.

Didn't see this posted anywhere else... Aired last night but you can watch online or order the DVD. I've only seen the first 5 minutes but I like what I've seen so far.

Interesting story out of California about drones impeding efforts to fight the fire that swept across the highway yesterday. Five drones showed up in that short period of time, given this and a bunch of other stories I've heard in recent months I would expect legislation is coming.

I'm on the verge of saying enough...enough with pushing phony OPRs and awards packages, enough with uniform changes, enough with force shaping, enough with deployments, enough with TDYs (my several TDY's to Nellis are OK), enough with forced community service and frankly enough of big blue capitalizing on my patriotism and my pride to make me work long hours on stuff that just doesn't matter. I'm up for my primary board next year, but was told bluntly that I have little chance of getting a DP. Although I have IDE and a BS masters complete without the DP I'm doubtful of my chances. I'd always planned on retiring but with the selective continuation fiasco of this year t…

Not sure if this is already common knowledge but it's the first I've heard of it. So for those of you who are just dieing to write OPRs and EPRs on their home macbook. I found a couple of mediocre options. IBM Forms Workplace Viewer: - This is pretty simple. You need to download macfuse first. I haven't been able to use the next page button though. But it at least lets me make sure my bullets have the right number of characters in each line. Citrix ICA Client: - This one will open up some windows 98 looking screen. I haven't been able to open EPRs/OPRs but the award package forms works like a champ (I don't get it). Good luck. Let me know if it works…
