Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

  1. You've probably seen the original 'Chuck Norris' list - well here are some new ones straight from the source document for all you Tactics guys. Excerpt from CNTTP 3-69 (Chuck Norris Tactics, Techniques and Procedures) (UNCLASS) 1) Chuck Norris executes a banzai gameplan regardless of awareness and AMR. Short-skate tactics are for the weak. 2) Chuck Norris is always in the “advantageous element.” 3) Chuck’s commit criteria is JFS Start. Mr. Norris doesn’t need avionics or a weapons system to be lethal. 4) Chuck Norris once had a wingman call a KIO for a PTO shaft failure. Chuck said he was “rejoining chase” and subsequently gunned the guy for being …

Saw this on another site. Was wondering what most of you guys thought. New York Post April 13, 2005 Clashing Military Cultures By Ralph Peters Last month, I sat in the office of Col. Jon "Dog" Davis, a veteran Marine aviator. While at war, the Corps' pilots had seen a rise in their accident rate. Davis was determined to do something about it. I wanted to be sympathetic, so I said, "Well, you're flying some very old aircraft." Davis, a taut, no-nonsense Marine, looked me in the eye and said, "They may be old, but they're good. That's no excuse." As commander of the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 out in Yuma, Ariz., Davis could ha…

Anyone seen the new Airman magazine, the one titled 'The Air Force at 60'? Look at page 6, at top. Verbatim... Yep, three l's in "Billy"...I guess it's not like he is well-known in USAF history! And page 11... The correct spelling of Gen McAuliffe's name is with a capital A. He is attributed for the well-known reply of “Nuts” at Bastogne. Considering that those who put this little tribute together probably scored MSMs for their efforts, you'd think they would have spent a little time proofreading the damn thing! I found both of these errors within the first minute of looking through it. Cheers! M2

As a female , I take exception to the sexually suggestive mini-movies that some member users are using on this forum- especially the "boob" ones! Why are these allowed?; I bet if I had a guy doing similar things with his private area on mine, it would be taken off...? Sure, some will say, if you don't like it don't participate in this forum. It's not just for horny guys is it???

After not working out or running for nearly 4 years, last week I started running again. I run 1.5 miles one day out of the week each week and I just finished my second week. I for one am proud of myself for doing this and I don't care if you guys call me out of shape because I feel accomplished! My last week time was 15:42:309. While this weeks time was 14:12:613. I've yet to run the whole 1.5 miles. I end up walking some portion of the run. But I'm just going to keep on keeping on. Place constructive comments here \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

Going through some old pictures from UPT (yes we had cameras back then), and I was reminded of a dude in my class who was on the verge of washing out for air sickness. On one flight he horked into his mask then mucked it back down so as to avoid being washed out...total dedication. Anyone else have some good puke stories? Just to set the right tone, please enjoy this clip from a Swedish game show...

Did a search, came up with nothing. Anybody lived in Clovis who can give me a good idea of what the cell phone service situation is out there? I'm looking to get rid of Sprint and maybe get an iphone but when I look at the coverage maps it is less than stellar, considering I'd have to roam on someone else's network (not sure whose). Thoughts?

Things are different when you are racing through the air six miles above the ground. Mundane mistakes can become disruptions for hundreds of people, creating news and likely even fodder for comedians. And so it was for pilots of United Airlines Flight 940 on Monday night. One spilled coffee accidentally on the Boeing 777’s avionics while over Canada en route to Frankfurt from Chicago. When radios went goofy, a pilot put the “No Radio” code (7600) in the transponder but mistakenly entered 7500, which means hijacking or unlawful interference. When that happens, there’s a lot more than crying over spilled coffee. A Transport Canada report said Canada’s defense departme…

Well if we’re going to have a conversation going about soccer, for the love of God we should have at least one for this year’s college football season! It’s been a hell of a great year. Lots of upsets, surprisingly close games, and some old power houses awakening from their slumber and making some waves again (UT, USC, etc) and the “playoff” not including Alabama or Clemson and including TCU?! I wasn’t too excited about the transfer portal initially, however, I think it has led to some extra excitement. And speaking of playoffs, can we get a 12 team bracket now, please?

  17. Started by Bergman,

I have been sitting on some savings for about a year now, which has been in a high-yield savings account up to this point. My son is now 2.5 years old, and it's time to stop being lazy and get this money into an investment that will earn more than 3%. I've read about several options, including 529 plans, Coverdell educational IRAs, and pre-paid tuition. I'm looking to retain control of the funds and also ensure that I can get at them in the event he gets a scholarship, academy, or doesn't go to college. I don't manage money for a living, so any advice is appreciated!

Forty years later, Army colonel Henry Moak still loves his pound cake! Moak capped off his retirement ceremony by digging into an old can of military 'C' rations pound cake from 1969, which he brought back from Vietnam... :salut: to you, COL Moak, on your retirement! And for using a vintage P-38 can opener to open the cake! Cheers! M2 "Get some!"

This one was too funny and well written not to pass on to the rest of the baseops.net communuty. This could probably go in the "Leadership at the Deid" thread, or even the "I Hate Reflective Belts" thread, but since it is from Iraq and deals with combat showers, I figgered I'd piss the mods off and start a new thread for it. Names obscured to protect the innocent.

  25. Completely, 100%, unsubstantiated rumor, but still interesting... Dudes, I felt compelled to pass on some distressing news that I recently received from a friend of mine in the XXX ANG. He is a viper pilot that took an AGR spot at XXX as the MX squadron commander, but still gets to fly. I merely emailed him to XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX and asked him how the guard was going. I got back some troubling news. Here are a few quotes from his email: "I literally just got the brief that the Sec of the Air Force and Penetta both want to get rid of the Air Guard all together. Best case is all the aircraft will be sent to Active Duty and all the fighters sent to the boneyard! …
