Shots fired at US Capitol

Last I heard it was a crash that injured the officer, but somehow shots were involved.

But gunfire in the District of Columbia, say it isn't so! :bash:

UPDATE:

U.S. Capitol Police lifted a shelter-in-place warning at all U.S. Senate office buildings on Thursday after shots were fired at a female suspect who apparently struck a barrier near the White House with her car and led police on car chase that ended near Capitol Hill.

A U.S. Capitol Police spokesman said that one officer was injured in a crash while pursuing the woman.

The Associated Press reported a woman was in police custody. Earlier, ABC News and Reuters reported that a female suspect was dead. Chief Kim Dine of the U.S. Capitol Police told reporters he did not know the condition of the suspect, but did confirm that police located a child inside the suspect’s car, seen in photos as a black Infiniti sedan with Connecticut plates.

“We have no information that this is related to terrorism or is anything other than an isolated incident,” Dine told reporters.

Tim Wilson, a spokesperson with the District of Columbia Fire and EMS Department, told Yahoo News that medical personnel transported one patient from the scene who suffered life-threatening injuries. He would not give the gender of the patient or the nature of the injuries.

Earlier, police could be seen swarming the grounds near the Capitol Building with guns drawn.

Yahoo News reporter Chris Moody was outside the Capitol when he heard three shots ring out.

About half a dozen police cars sped west down Constitution Avenue toward the scene. Moments later, other police vehicles sped back the other way.

One eyewitness told Yahoo News she saw a black car being chased by police and they surrounded the suspect when the shots rang out.

"Police were shooting at [the car]," a witness told Yahoo News. "They had [the driver] blocked up and he kept going around the Capitol Building and around and around. Then I heard a loud crash on the other side of the Capitol."

Another witness said police began shooting when the car sped off after being trapped.

"We saw a black car and a couple of cop cars behind him," that witness said. "He kind of got stuck in front of the Capitol building where the pillars are. The cops got out of their car and surrounded [the suspect] and started yelling. Somehow [the car] turned around and almost hit a couple of them and that's when the cops started shooting."

So a bad driver in DC and a possible over-reaction by the DC police (there was a child in the car, so I am not thinking it was a terrorist attack), who'd of thunk that?!? :bash:

Another update...

WASHINGTON — The woman who led police on a high-speed chase that ended near the U.S. Capitol building has been pronounced dead, Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier said Thursday evening.

The pursuit ended when police fired shots at the suspect at a traffic circle near the Capitol building, and then again on the corner of Maryland and 1st Street NE only a few blocks away.

Two officers were injured during the incident: one was a Secret Service agent and the other, a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Capitol Police, Chief Kim Dine said. The injured Capitol Police officer, Dine added, “is doing well.”

Police located a 1-year-old child inside the suspect’s car, a black Infiniti sedan with Connecticut plates. The child was not injured, police said, but taken to a local hospital after the crash.

DC may have to ban cars after this.

It'll probably start with a call to ban hi-cap gas tanks. No one needs twenty gallons of gas, tanks should be no more than five gallons!

Then it will lead to horsepower limits. No more than 4 cylinder, 1.2 liter max with speed governor set to 55mph with a kill switch enabled and controlled by the NSA. For the children........

I think the government should force us all to ride scooters...and then afterwards they'll force us to have sex with fat chicks. (hopefully someone got that joke).

Yeah that way I can peg the speedometer 30 not 31 because I'm precise like that and have what it takes to fly the F-22.
