June 15, 201312 yr I refused to buy the olive colored flight boots until the OG/CC said Gen Schwartz was flying the first J model into Dyess and I would be his escort. Since the squadron purchased me new boots and gave me a new flightsuit I didn't complain. Everyone participating received a new flightsuit because you must have that tab over your pen and pencil set or the CSAF may give you the stink eye. And everyone received olive boots because the OG wanted uniformity. For 4 years of my enlistment I shined boots. Frankly, I got tired of paying for shoe polish with my check. Needless to say, those olive colored boots have grown on me. But if you bring back the black boots you will be creating jobs. The bootshiners who were let go will make a comeback with their boot shine rags and polish in hand. Edited June 15, 201312 yr by slick999
June 15, 201312 yr Excess spending for boots and uniformity and queepy shit.. knowing the CC at the time, sounds about right...

Except for the guy at the Randolph AFB BX. I think he retired to a mansion on the Riviera. The one in France, not Florida.

And how much money did that waste?
June 15, 201312 yr A visit to your base by a particular three star in the AMC chain of command will trigger similar foolishness. Saw it first hand. Ridiculous.

I think you meant AG, aka "Wing Commander equivalent" (if you don't believe me, just ask them)
June 16, 201312 yr During OEF and OIF the Air Force wore ABUs. At the beginning of both of those the AF wore DCUs -- ABUs didn't get issued until 2007 or so. It would be simple to just make either DCU or OCPs the standard across the DoD. Edited June 16, 201312 yr by Hacker
June 16, 201312 yr Wait, when did Dyess get an OG on the Herk side? I think you meant AG, aka "Wing Commander equivalent" (if you don't believe me, just ask them) You are correct! My mistake..too long under the OG. Dyess has become a distant memory. At the beginning of both of those the AF wore DCUs -- ABUs didn't get issued until 2007 or so. It would be simple to just make either DCU or OCPs the standard across the DoD. Yeah, we were still in BDUs when the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq kicked off. Excuse my age. Someone send me some crossword puzzles. That will help my memory.
June 18, 201312 yr Here ya go, the one uniform all services can use! I have a hard enough time sometimes figuring out what pocket of my flight suit I put my wallet in, I would never find it again. Edited June 18, 201312 yr by Fuzz
June 18, 201312 yr Here ya go, the one uniform all services can use! I guess you could solve the sexual assault problem with that uniform...
June 19, 201312 yr Author At least we can cut pack mules out of the Defense budget with that new uniform.
June 19, 201312 yr Ahhhh, Bridgeport. Funny how the three Marines the mule is supposed to be helping, are doing the most work...
June 19, 201312 yr Here ya go, the one uniform all services can use! Haha, looks a lot like some AFSOC guys I know.
June 22, 201312 yr Author Here ya go, the one uniform all services can use! Oh man, just noticed the packs on his hat. Project Inspector Gadget was a stunning success.
October 12, 201312 yr So after two years of research and testing of four separate camouflage patterns, the Army decides to say "no thanks" and choose multicam to replace the UCP. How long until the USAF adopts it to replace the ABU? According to the Justification and Approval (J&A) published yesterday by the Army Contracting Command on Fed Biz Opps, a contract was in fact awarded to Crye Associates on September 24th, 2013 for a license for OCP. Furthermore, according to details in the J&A, OCP will be the Army’s principle camouflage pattern Linky
October 12, 201312 yr But we have to have a DISTINCTIVE UNIFORM! Because we're AIRMEN! Bleh. Things I have learned in the military: generals act like 7 year olds in a sandbox, or 15 year old girls at the prom, depending on the occasion. "But MOOOOOOOM!! The Marines are wearing the same dress! I HAVE to have something special!" I called this in Afghanistan in 2010. Just like everyone wearing the BDU pattern, everyone wearing Multicam (screw you, silly acronyms) makes sense tactically and strategically (in this sense, facing budget realities.)
October 12, 201312 yr How long until the USAF adopts it to replace the ABU? I'm sure the price will drop some if we did, but aren't they pretty expensive compared to ABUs?
October 13, 201312 yr I'm sure the price will drop some if we did, but aren't they pretty expensive compared to ABUs? If we do adopt it, will flyers get to wear the 2-piece multicam? Those things were awesome! Too bad the pointy nose guys will never agree... Wxman

Wxman Not a point nose type, but I would never want to go to a 2-piece. They are great for pre-flights, but uncomfortable for long sorties.
