  1. Because of this emphasis mine
  2. They were initially designed to protect the pilots face from smashing into the cyclic in a crash but the backenders use them a lot to deal with dust/snow on approach when they stick their heads out the door.
  3. Entering the atmosphere at something on the order of Mach 20, the meteorite broke up on its own accord. I would venture to guess that the 99.69 of the damage was due to the sonic boom, not ground impact.

The Huey is around 0.9:1, can't imagine that the H-60 is any better.
  9. I believe that was the ability for rifles to fire a grenade from the barrel a la M1 Garand

Anybody know of a good M16A2 or A4 clone? Most of the AR's I've seen are the 16" carbine instead of the 20" rifle. RRA has a nice one but i didn't know if there were any others of similar quality.

I take it then that the RFP favored a smaller helicopter over something the size of say an S-92. Anybody know if the MH-60M's have the same hot/high performance issues with the CT7?
  14. Stumbled upon this photo today. Anybody know the story behind it?
  15. Boom! Roasted. Break, Break We had to fly yesterday taking the missile commanders to every capsule to look for "inappropriate material". We burned over $50k worth of JP-8 for this, yet our OG will barely give us money for dish soap and toilet paper. AFGSC Standard.
  16. Oh wait...
  17. Until the MDSv1 gets rewritten to remove those pesky instruments they'll be the bane of our existence. Nevermind the fact that we can and routinely do fly VFR lower than any non-CATIII instrument approach.
  18. We (UH-1N) don't have an IFR certified GPS so we "have" to use a fix-to-fix to proceed direct to a point in a non-radar environment (which there are many in MT).
  19. Is that the B-52 Memphis Belle 69?

  22. The missileer asked to the effect of "we're all supposed to be warriors, I don't feel like a warrior on Mondays, what say you Gen Walsh?" Gen Walsh said that the band uniform was "tucked away deep in his basement" (sts i guess?)
  23. The question was actually asked by a Missileer at an all-call here last week. Gen Walsh's exact words were "I have written no such policy." He then went on to mention that if any MAJCOM or base wanted to continue the proud tradition, then that was their prerogative. He did say though that the Air Staff would continue to wear blues because "we're a staff and don't require utility uniforms to do our job"
