C-17 Down on Elmendorf
Holy crap. My hands would have been twitching on the handle at that point.

Thanks man! Just trying to exhaust all options. Looking like everyone here at the hotel is going to have to either take a pass and only go out for 4 day stints or suck it up and take leave and move out of the hotel for two weeks.

Okay not to beat a dead horse but a magic fairy dropped off a very interesting piece of literature to me today: Just wanted to see if this applies. I am betting due to the "if AO does NOT authorize travel..." part that since we are authorized travel on the weekends at Altus this would null and void the later part. Looking like I will have to find a place to store all my junk. Yea trying to avoid that. If I kept the hotel for the entire period of leave it would be around $1000 (77 a day for 14 days). That just doesn't seem worth it if I can weasel my way out in any other form or fashion.

Would the 4 day vs 13 day time length play into it? I've never used a 29B for longer than a normal weekend. I will go in tomorrow to ask again. I'd just like to bring as much info as I can to this fight.

Thanks HD, I actually have the JTFR up right now. The problem with the "pass" is it's only 4 days. So I would have to be back to sign in. Really sucks that -135 PIQ is just short of PCS limits (then again I do really enjoy the Per Diem...) so I wouldn't have this problem. Oh well, time to get creative.

29B has the 300 mile limit doesn't it? I wanted to head back to Chicago. I'd like to see if there are any options besides going AWOL. Especially with it being AETC, I wouldn't hold it against them to have a recall or something for anyone not signed out. But can you elaborate on Altus not having a "local area?" Does that mean the 29B is good for any CONUS place? If so I'd need to find the reg that says that because it's looking like an uphill battle with the people I am talking to trying to make this work. TIA.

So I am running into a wall trying to get leave while at PIQ in Altus. I am TDY Enroute and trying to take a chunk of leave for Xmas and NYE. Problems I am running into are mostly that I am being told my Non-A expires if I take leave (and I will have to roll the dice when I return to see if I get it again), I will have to give up my hotel room since I will no longer be reimbursed for it (or pay out of pocket), I will have to pay out of pocket for storage for all my junk, and I won't make any Per Diem during that time. Can anyone back this up? It's really the Non-A and hotel room portions that are bothering me. I can understand why I wouldn't get Per Diem since I wont be there, but it just seems that anyone trying to take Leave while TDY or TDY Enroute are getting the shaft. Rumor is there is some sort of JFTR/JTR that says while taking leave your entitlements can't be cut or something. I am looking for that now but figured I'd ask here as well. Thanks!

Gun Talk
Some new accessories. New soft case (LA Police Gear Pistol Case) for my 1911. And inside, a new Galco Paddle Holster (it's a real ***** to find lefty holster's btw). I was lacking a military oriented bag (ironic isn't it?) so got a LA Police 3 Day Backpack. And a spiffy new patch I plan on sporting my last week before PCSing...think I can pull it off?

Military retirement under attack
In theory shouldn't Tricare not matter? Because we will all have mandatory (and "free") Obama-Care?

Cheapest option with an AR is to build it yourself. You will end up with better parts for less (or equivalent money). But it's really easy to go way over budget...since there are so many awesome (and pricey) toys/options for any AR. Just shop the deals/sales and you can build one cheap (especially if you don't get a gucci rail). I'd suggest looking at: www.Bravocompanyusa.com

Military retirement under attack
Not sure I would stay in a full 20 if I had to wait damn near 60 to collect retirement. Would be better to get into the airlines or some other flying job so that way I'd have seniority by that time, instead of being a 40-something year old and starting over with no seniority in the airlines AND no income. I am not sure how former military fliers start off in the airline job, but obviously it would be a huge pay cut. So lets say I have a family of 4...that would be a huge pay cut I imagine.

ASBC information
I aim to please. :)

ASBC information
Dude...it's ASBC. Nobody cares. Just check the box, pass the stupid thing, and carry on with your life. The rest of your life you will be compared, rack & stacked, etc with dudes that might be FAR overqualified compared to you. That's life. God help you if your going to UPT and have a bunch of O-3 Nav's in your class. Or you have a former airline pilot in your class. Etc etc etc. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on those.

Bad day on a A380
Bad 2 week's for Quanta's. 4th flight in two weeks had issues. Smoke in a 747 cockpit. https://www.aolnews.com/world/article/qantas-aborts-4th-flight-in-less-than-2-weeks/19716572?test=latestnews

Red Flag Cancelled
Any idea how this will go over in associate units? Since they are technically guard/reserve jets...

Question: Can I (should I) bring my weapons with me when I go to Altus? I, obviously, wouldn't let TMO touch them...so should I keep them with me or ship them off to a family member for storage?

Red Flag Cancelled
Um...no. I am annoyed the KC-X procurement is so jacked up...but I am certainly not jealous/annoyed at anyone flying the Airbus. (I am slightly jealous of the Italians and Japanese for rocking the KC-767 though).

Customs and courtesies
I have found the Army is much better at C&C than the USAF. And they don't have any problems with the 2LT and 1LT. They all know they are just LT's and don't give a fuck. Wish the AF could figure that one out...

Tops in Blue (TIB) - WTF?
I come back to CBM from SERE a couple days ago. Flip on the TV...first thing on is a commercial for TIB playing this weekend. Terrible timing or what?

good aviation colleges?
Sad news, my alma mater is getting rid of it's Aviation program. The University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana is shedding this program so they don't have to cut any funding to our shitty football team. YEY!

Haha. I'm going to the range tomorrow so I'll let you know. Just stalking the neighbors via the scope it seems awesome though! 22LR vs 9mm and a boat load of cash. Basically the GSG-5 is an MP-5 clone in an extremely cheap caliber. It's an awesome plinker.

The Officers Club
Our class get a serious verbal lashing during our track select for bringing in outside alcohol. I mean there was no warning or anything subtle, it was just some evil hawk screeching at us. Then, for our assignment night, we went in to ask if we could bring in unopened bottles (not to be consumed at the club) to be gifted to the studs who got UAVs and FAIPed. That was a total PITA. Took about 2 weeks of weaseling to get that "approved" by that harpy. Seriously, probably one of my more painful UPT experiences was dealing with the club.
