Replacement to the T-38
Lots of T-38 students have been assigned heavies in the recent past, but as far as I know, none have been cross-flowed to fighters. Have any first assignment RPA guys gotten a fighter follow-on?

Replacement to the T-38
C-17s only have 3 flights for initial qual. As far as trainers go, does it really matter if the two guys are sitting side by side or in tandem?

Shhhh...Don't talk about the A-10
Damn it. That right there is why people want to leave. They love the flying. They love hanging out with the other dudes at work. The pay could be better but is pretty good for the shit we get to do. And the sense of accomplishment when completing a mission is like no other. And since we're not retards, we understand the nature of political and budgetary constraints. But when the AF downplays the contributions of a particular community to portray what they assume the politicians want to hear, that shit sucks. When the AF messes up the easy stuff, that's when people get mad. Just tell the world our best stories, and tell us the truth about why things are happening.

KC-46A Candidate Bases Announced
I don't know dude, these days, a jet could carry 690,000 lbs of cargo and pregnant patients while strafing terrorists and sitting nuke alert, but still be on the chopping block because it's 1.) already built and 2.) only exists in 2 or fewer congressional districts. The cost-effectiveness and operational ability of airframes isn't what drives Congress, to a point.

He'll be ok, he's still got some of the Taliban VSP money left.

Shhhh...Don't talk about the A-10
Military retirement pensions cost the DoD $50B+ per year. Switch to the equivalent of matching TSP contributions and save a shit-ton while reinvesting into the economy. The A-10 cost is peanuts.

Beale AFB
You owe it to yourself to check out Penn Valley, Grass Valley, and Nevada City before you buy in the Lincoln suburbs. 25m commute, big parcels, cool small towns. With apologies to anyone west of the base, I could never recommend living in Linda, Yuba, or Marysville.

Saddle up for Syria? Or Op Deny Christmas '13
No. Let them die by 30mm and Tweet the HUD tapes. This is the 21st Century equivalent of placing their heads on a pike outside the city gates.

What happened to the JQP Toxic Leadership Posts?
Maybe it was a directed offensive cyber operation.

Can anyone make a case for Dover instead of Travis?
Honest question: how do CA politics affect a non-taxpayer? I feel like I'm scamming the system by not paying income tax but still living in CA. I used to think the property tax was high, until I learned how high some East Coast areas can be. Watch out for Mello Roos. Gas costs about 25% more, but that's kind of insignificant on an officer's budget. Maybe if you want to own >10 rd magazines that could be a big deal as well. I think it's important to remember that you have a good chance of being based at both locations.

*see Travis thread for what areas to live in. California can go from a dream location to a Snoop video real quick.

Can anyone make a case for Dover instead of Travis?
Why's that? I've lived in NorCal for 5 years now; I think it's pretty awesome.

Thoughts on the Air Force's Electronic Warfare Sustainability
...I think we should start talking about this.

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness
Kick ass dude. I take it all back!

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness
Well, super helpful comm guys like you are still the minority. The ones I'm working with are "default-no". To the point where I was told to call A6 and report back. And the Surface is still a POS. Bottom line: What my Sq is looking for from Comm is the approval to use iPads as e-readers. AFNET access is not required, and actually it would be preferred to not have it. We'd rather plug into a stand alone or use wifi to sync pubs. Nobody wants to pay for and update Good For Enterprise, either.

They got Surfaces because they asked the CS. The CS assumes by default that you want access to Sharepoint and Outlook and the Surface works like a laptop without a keyboard. Of course, nobody actually wants the Surface because they're shit.

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness
Has anybody in ACC successfully bought iPads as pubs readers? They're the last of the cavemen and seem to think that every "OS" has to be AFNET enabled using GFE. And this is coming from A6.

A week in Germany
If someone doesn't already know they want to drive the Nurburgring, it may be inadvisable to send them there!

Is the KC-10 going to be cut?
I remember the old guys telling me that the desert rotations would never stop after OEF-A. They were right; it's been going on for literally 25 years.

Utterly invalid point that assumes aircraft development is linear. These planes have been around for a long time for good reason. Operationally, the KC-46 will be more or less identical to the KC-135. It will carry marginally more gas, burn a bit less, and be able to get a little closer to a threat. All for the low price of $250m each. The KC-135 has been around so long because it works fine. A tanker doesn't need to be cosmic. The U-2 argument is shit because they were redesigned and built new in the 80s. The S-model today has a F-118, the cockpit is all glass, and the sensors are the illest shit around. The "newer" HAISR platform that the USAF spent the taxpayer's hard-earned money on is inferior in nearly every measurable category. The Buff can still end the world at a moment's notice better than it ever could, so there's never been much incentive to get new ones. Even after we buy $60B worth of LRS-Bs, we're still keeping the Buffs anyway. Did the chief mention that part? Edit: TLDR: The B-17 was inferior within 10 years of its first flight. The 3 aircraft above are still relevant and their replacements will either be similar in capes, a newer version of the same design, or not even required.

As a flyer, I would prefer that ABU wearers had patches so I could tell where they worked. About the only enlisted badges I recognize are MX and ATC.
