  1. Do expand on these Luttrell claims. Not saying you're wrong, I just don't follow what you mean with these examples.
  2. There was a similar situation in the Bay Area 5 or so years ago. I believe the cop in that case got a manslaughter conviction. The better question is why there is a 73 year old "reserve officer" doing weapons stings.
  3. The same people can answer both questions so the percentages don't add together in this case.
  4. I've never been directly shot at or in any direct danger while deployed so I can't speak from experience but what he says certainly makes sense. When society says you're broken it has to be tough to get past thinking that yourself and I'm sure it's easy to feel sorry for yourself rather than taking steps to grow and come out of it stronger. Eric Greitens' book Resilience does a good job addressing it. Basically it's letters Eric wrote to his SEAL buddy who had severe PTS and lost his family, began drinking too much, etc.
  5. Mismatch between previous words and current actions aside I'm glad he's making changes based on the situation in the country and not just following an arbitrary timeline.
  6. I used to live in Plumas Lake and really liked it. You get way more for your money than in Lincoln, Roseville, or Sac. It's a decent compromise between commute (20-25 min depending on speed, all on back roads) and doing stuff on the weekends (~30 to Sac, ~40 to Lincoln/Roseville). That being said most of the single dudes I know lived in Midtown or downtown Sac. I think they said the commute was closer to 45 minutes but it was worth it to be around the nightlife. As a whole it's a great place, 2 hours from Tahoe, 2 hours from the Bay Area and not far from tons of other things to do. Enjoy!
  7. In general I liked Gates because he was never afraid to stand up to the President (Bush and Obama) and make his case heard. However his cutting of the F-22 seems like a really bad decision in hindsight. We'd likely be less dependent on the F-35.
  8. They've said they're upping their sorties in Iraq and Syria. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2938668/Jordanian-king-Obama-meet-pilots-killing.html#ixzz3QnMNBvCA
  9. Jordan threatened to execute all their ISIS prisoners if they didn't get the pilot back. I hope they follow through.
  10. Yes it's an AF thread but the topic has turned to dumb stories of how the Army does business WRT aviation. I don't see a problem in throwing in a story of how some AF guys are assclowns when it comes to on the ground stuff sometimes.
  11. To be fair he said passing info was akin to treason, he didn't say he was going to start prosecuting people for committing treason. I'm certainly not defending him but there is a difference.
  12. I'm sure it's in no way the best but I grew to love the Texas Pete's Hotter Hot sauce from my times in the 'Stan.
  13. I'm sure they got it from somewhere else but the first I heard of it was a Dos Gringos song. "Him him him, what a way to go..."
  14. We can just use some of these advisors in Afghanistan as well. http://www.duffelblog.com/2014/09/pentagon-advisers-iraq-syria/
  15. But in this case he didn't pass his own position. He had know idea friendlies were at the coords he passed because if wasn't relayed to him.
  16. We had 2 Afghanis in my T-6 class and they were pretty good dudes. Not half bad pilots either. Although one did become somewhat of an alcoholic and the other started dating a morbidly obese chick but who doesn't go through those phases in UPT?
  17. I guess it just varies because the last one I was on was we were all from the ops group with all but one being flyers
  18. 1. What does Kony have to do with it? I know I know, you're trying to make a point but he has no connection to al Qaeda or the Taliban so your hyperbole is ineffective. 2. "Probably should have been killed rather than turned over to us in the first place." Yeah...most of the "prisoners" taken in OEF qualify for that (rather than just be released by the Afghans days or weeks after we capture them.) 3. So you're saying that because we have to figure out something to do with prisoners we should just release them because we aren't entirely sure? That sounds like sound logic... 4. Bit of a sidetrack but the way the Administration has decided to end the war in Afghanistan is certainly not "under the best circumstances ." 5. All that being said I'm fine with the administration going to great lengths to get back an American. It seems to me like he definitely disappeared under shady ass circumstances but I think that should be determined in a US court and if found guilty I hope he us punished to the full extent of the law.
  19. SA fail on my part...blame Sierra Nevada Brewing Co for that...and the ugly Thunder loss...
  20. Good article about the whole situation. (Obviously written before the release, but still relevant) http://www.cbsnews.com/news/is-sgt-bowe-bergdahl-a-hero-or-a-deserter/
  21. That checks, the only time Americans seem to care about Afghanistan is when politicians need it to make some political point.
  22. They give you a chance at the end to fill out info for upcoming students. If I remember right it was the last day.
