Anyone know the new C-130J bed-down plan? And associated components? ...after Keesler x8, HC-130J to ??, MC-130Js to Cannon, Cannon AFB new J ramp & hanger, Ramstein new J sim, Dyess AFB x28 after forever long, India x6, Danish x4, Israel x?, Norway x?, Canada delivery complete?, The Rock's new SQ ?.... Who & when is next? (found some info, but not more than posted)

Dyess has more J-model aircrew than C-130J(s). Expect lots of Other time, perhaps even a TDY to another base to remain current. ~90% of Herk drivers are airdrop qual'd. Senior leaders, Puerto Rico ANG, and Staff bubbas about about the only airland guys I know (even then the Staff guys at USAFE are airdrop qual'd).

Where will Coach and L.R.P.A. go? And damned if I only figured out three of the four words of her acronym...one more and I drink free for a night!

...heard the laptops will go away b/c of funding. They were nice to have. Though as of 1 Jul the building is getting some sweet computer set-ups. I think the school-house is preparing for J-training to take the majority share of Hercules training. That would also explain the additional J sim being site-surveyed.

And so the J-ness begins... ...question is what is the bed-down plan from here onwards. Will the 62nd takeover for the 48th? Who will get them after Dyess AFB? Will partner nations still inject their orders into the line-up? Anyone know if there is even a plan or is it seat-of-the-pants?

Anyone heard rumors of slick C-130J's becoming in-flight refuelable?

Keesler will have an awesome squadron commander. He just left Ramstein AB as the SQ/DO. I enjoyed working for him.

Perhaps Corpus is at capacity? I've heard LR is boosting output CY 10. I know the C-130J needs more people as a new, growing community. And consider that most of the aircrew transferring to J come from the Legacy community, so it's probably creating a vacuum there.

I live at the Enclave now until the end of J-school. My first time through LR, E-school, my family and I stayed on base in the privatized housing. I wouldn't stay at the Enclave long term. The Enclave is nice, but not for long. The building is falling apart; it was poorly and quickly built. There are cracks developing in the foundations/floors, the pools are on the first floor - stalactites are forming in the parking garage underneath them. The administration isn't efficient or responsive sometimes. Granted they are new and working out the administration wrinkles. I had to take my family to a motel for the weekend after the Enclave wouldn't let in Dixie Furniture Rents while I was still in Germany. The Enclave had my verbal permission for Dixie Rents to enter, but refused. Soon after the Enclave developed a written entry permission form. The location is great, north of downtown across the river (10 min walk across a pedestrian-only bridge), next to the ballpark, riverfront running/biking trail, farmers market, Cregeen's Irish Bar...the list goes on. The privatized base housing was great too. Though I had a different house than most PIQ/PXA guys. We stayed in a larger, free standing house off California Ave near the big base lake. My wife was to deliver shortly after we moved in and two grandmothers were staying with us. Several friends had smaller duplexes. Overall both places are nice and have pros and cons. I expect to pay more out-of-pocket for the Enclave than base housing, about $1K, but knew that moving in. Power, water, trash, cable TV, internet, and phone aren't included at the Enclave, they were for me on base in 2007/08. The drive is much shorter on base and saved about an hour each day, not to mention morning front gate traffic. Though the base didn't have as many cultural attractions nearby as the Enclave does. PM with any questions on either. Oh, both accept pets and have referral bonuses.

I've been using my Oregon Aero cushion kit for Bose for about 50 flt/hrs (C-130E) so far. I like that they keep my ears from touching the screen inside. That prevents shocking me less when sweating. I don't like that they don't seal as well when I'm wearing my sunglasses. Big framed sunglasses allow "ambient" noise to leak through. Not a problem if you have flat-wire frames though. I have somewhat flat frames. The OEM earcups do a better jobs sealing around sunglasses, but don't keep the screen from touching your ears. I'd recommend the OA Bose Comfort Kit, minus headpad and a good set of thin wire-framed sunglasses.

Even though the J model has RVSM, I heard it gets overtaken by jets and routed off black-line frequently. Word is that they choose to fly just below RVSM to avoid the extra routing. Can anyone confirm?

And now even the crickets are dead quiet.

Finance Guy or anyone else who might know, If you get a Non-A letter and on it they tell you it's only good for a certain place. Is that legal? Can you change lodging even though they booked it like that? LRAFB and McChord AFB do this. (I'll start browsing the JFTR now, just thought someone would know outright)

Doesn't C-Springs have H3's...could have sworn they do. A miz of H2's and H3's. Japan may be after Dyess to get the J-model. Ramstein will get the first off the line, then Dyess, AFSOC is fighting to get some in there, but they need some "special additions" that might take longer. I wouldn't be surprised if foreign sales of the J kick-off here soon as the J shows-off round' the world. Who doesn't love a new Tac-Airlift platform. Who doesn't need a new Tac-Airlift platform?!

Easy choice in my eyes...why did you join the AF? Where do you want to be in the action? How close? Do you like variety? Or do you like monotony?

I fricken love my big Oregon Aero seat cushion. The heat reactive foam is money! The C-130E's original seat cushions aren't forgiving. Which ironically were designed by Oregon Aero...but they've exceeding their service life by thousands of years. That's right thousands, it's kind of like equivalent baseline hours. Big guy in the seat = more wear and tear.

In the Herk we use e-pubs on thumb drives. On the C-130E, the nav brings a laptop (Toughbook), then we can view the pubs through it. We have to use a USB pigtail though. The Toughbook's USB port are recessed into the hard frame and our thumb drives don't fit. The USB pigtail does fit obviously. I've been on a crew and we used it once. Though, several times we've referenced the paper copy of the T.O. -1 the Flight Engineer is required to bring. To get around not being able to stick your thumb drive in a networked gov't computer, my squadron has taken a computer off the network and placed the e-pubs on it via an external hard drive (non-flash = not banned, generally). From there aircrew can update their poobs with a thumb drive. Wallah.
