You've certainly heard the gripes before...
- SOS in-res & via correspondence = why is via-corr. req'd to be competitive for in-res? ACSC ditto Horribly timed "required" Master's degrees (during SOS, ACSC, MQT/AC/Element Ld/4 Ship/IP upgrade - mostly between the end of pilot training and Major's board to second school look) Master's degrees which are as useful as a duck fart Everyone required to get a Master's degree Excessive, lame ground jobs pinned on aircrew detracting from sweet flying skills/knowledge (much like bowstaff skills*...) Family forgotten in the mix OPRs need to be re-caged to performance
*or sweet sword skills like the Asian guy about to cut Conan
(edit: forgot about the 707's)
Gen Welsh told me last week himself that he intends upon meeting with the flying squadrons around USAFE.
After speaking with him and Gen Gorenc for about 20 minutes about the necessary fixes the senior CGO and FGO corps need to manage the force and conduct the mission I really respect their leadership, effort, and candidness. It was unbelievable that they were in our C-130J that long. They have tough decisions to make that affect the way our Officer Corps conduct business, rankings, and promotions and they need information to carry out those changes.
Wish I took a picture of the winglet stuck in the building that the plane hit. There is always tomorrow...
The parking plan is horrendous and towing ops are crazy. Huge planes everywhere, planes taxiing through the crowds - it's nuts.
JFTR U4137 ALLOWABLE EXPENSES WHEN A RESIDENCE IS PURCHASED AND USED FOR TDY
LODGING
A. Purchased Residence. A member may purchase and occupy a residence at a TDY location. Allowable expenses
are prorated based on the number of days in the month, rather than by the actual number of days the member
occupied the residence (57 Comp. Gen. 147 (1977)), and include the monthly:
1. Mortgage interest;
2. Property tax; and
3. Utility costs actually incurred (does not include any installation and hook-up charges), e.g., electricity,
natural gas, water, fuel oil, sewer charges;
-Rent reimbursable = yes
-Rent to own on TDY = no
-Buy a house and get reimbursed the principal part of the payment = no
-Buy a house and get reimbursed the interest expense = yes
But there's always renting out your newly purchased place to your classmates...
Our SQ/GP/WG hasn't sent out anything specific to RIF year-groups despite my FLT/CC being e-tasked yesterday to file our retention recommendations....
...we did get VSP info half-way through March though :|
Bring the big bed...no sweat. Even better if you have two twin-sized box springs instead of a massive under support of some type.
I bought a King Size bed and two twin box springs from Vogelweh AB and hauled it up 35 steps to the third floor. Second option was through the my enormous bay window on my balcony with ropes or a crane.
Hopefully it's good. Wish I could watch it from Germany....
Bush flying is great - especially on floats, ski's, or tundra tires. I encourage anyone to get any of those flying experiences.
I was rolled back a class at C-130E PIQ for my daughter's birth. It was easy for the 62nd because it was immediately after the simulator-to-flight line transition, the roll-back gave me two weeks down-time to enjoy our newborn. The roll-back coded as emergency situations or something like that, had to take a few days of leave, but not the entire time.
This was before 10 days paternity leave was signed into law.
Talk to the 714th TRS Flt/CC for advice...it's not the first time they've seen this.
You *should* be good since your Non-A was given for the whole time. Yes technically you should check-in again after leave in the middle of a TDY because it's a break. However, since your Non-A covers the whole period if you checked in again they shouldn't have space unless something has changed.
Personally with a Non-A covering the whole time already in paper, in-hand; Press on without worries.
Pop's screwed up my father's Navy flight leather jacket when he replaced the cuffs and waistband. My dad is a tall guy (6'4'') and Pop's cut off leather from sleeves when replacing the cuffs so the jacket didn't have it's swagger anymore. Can't be a cool guy when your sleeves are too short!
Our SQ/CC & DO fly missions into active theaters somewhat regularly, probably more often than others. Since we're not deployed but TDY into theater(s){CENTAF/AF AFRICA/USAFE} I think it's easier for them to step away from the SQ for short periods. RMS is closer than most Herk SQ's to the theaters though - location, location, location.
Anyone know the new C-130J bed-down plan? And associated components?
...after Keesler x8, HC-130J to ??, MC-130Js to Cannon, Cannon AFB new J ramp & hanger, Ramstein new J sim, Dyess AFB x28 after forever long, India x6, Danish x4, Israel x?, Norway x?, Canada delivery complete?, The Rock's new SQ ?....
Who & when is next?
(found some info, but not more than posted)
Dyess has more J-model aircrew than C-130J(s). Expect lots of Other time, perhaps even a TDY to another base to remain current.
~90% of Herk drivers are airdrop qual'd. Senior leaders, Puerto Rico ANG, and Staff bubbas about about the only airland guys I know (even then the Staff guys at USAFE are airdrop qual'd).
...heard the laptops will go away b/c of funding. They were nice to have.
Though as of 1 Jul the building is getting some sweet computer set-ups. I think the school-house is preparing for J-training to take the majority share of Hercules training. That would also explain the additional J sim being site-surveyed.
And so the J-ness begins...
...question is what is the bed-down plan from here onwards. Will the 62nd takeover for the 48th? Who will get them after Dyess AFB? Will partner nations still inject their orders into the line-up?
Anyone know if there is even a plan or is it seat-of-the-pants?
Perhaps Corpus is at capacity? I've heard LR is boosting output CY 10.
I know the C-130J needs more people as a new, growing community. And consider that most of the aircrew transferring to J come from the Legacy community, so it's probably creating a vacuum there.
