Gen Welsh - USAF Chief of Staff
After having the privilege and dumb luck to speak with Gen Welsh & Gen Gorenc for 45 minutes last summer in a C-130J cockpit along with a patch-wearing Major, I don't think Gen Welsh will eliminate the requirement to get a Master's degree...only postpone its timing-"requirement" to after an individual's Major promotion board at most. Unless his thinking has changed..... I voiced my concern as a line flying Captain doing a Master's, getting/staying CMR, etc; also expressed concern with crewdawgs being RA's as well as other crewdawgs being in positions that require continuous continuity (ex. fill in the ____) The scary part is if AAD is masked on the Major promotion board, what will take its place? Ancillary duties? Christmas party planning = strat? ADD: Gen Welsh impressed me with his sincere interest for my concerns/problems. He was the only senior leader I've spoken to who seemed to give a $hit to what litte-ole'-me had to say. "People who have dealt with the incoming chief say he is a natural leader who thinks clearly and has exceptional interpersonal skills." #agree

Flying VFR
Really, based upon a visual arrival which sometimes cars are moving faster than C-5's? That approach isn't but 5 minutes...perhaps busdriver is speaking of longer time VFR, like not during a visual approach.

He will have to be space required for PCS or on orders with a working dog. The only way space-A is seeing-eye-dog or seeing-eye-dog in training; or another type of assistance animal. Side note: On an airliner I saw an assistance pony one time...weird and farty.- History Friday

Isn't this because service member requirements in square feet are determined in the front of the regulation, but family members are not?- C-17 Lands at Wrong Airport

Anyone heard of lodging billeting a family of three into a VOQ? Sitution: TDY en-route PCS for several months, family on orders, TLF's aren't available Lodging is trying to place us into a VOQ room with one bed, one hide-a-bed couch, and no kitchen or kitchenette. AFI 34-246, the lodging AFI, doesn't have much on family billeting requirements. Have another reg source or citation? Have meeting with the lodging manager Tuesday.- FAA OKs iPad for Pilots’ Charts
AMC has a Concept-of-Employment signed. As having escaped to the beach/fishing/etc for two weeks, I'm temporarily out-of-the-loop as to most up to date info. The CONEMP specifically addresses some of your questions. https://private.amc.af.mil/a3/a3v/publications.aspx "HQ AMC Electronic Flight Bag"- Help with a Divorce
Realize that your PCS can be delayed or turned off at your request and if approved. You don't have to do this from a distance. AFI 36-2110, Humanitarian Assignment. A24.7.9. He might not be able to get Big Blue more money, better ops-tempo, or qualify of life (which is pretty good in the AF BTW...)...however What Gen Welsh might be is the personality to get the USAF personnel through this turbulent time by only changing people's perceptions. Who would you follow into a darkening future? (edit: me spell bad)- Motorcycle Riders Thread
What's wrong is that he's insinuating there is a relationship between riding motorcycles and suicides, namely that both are tragic and wrong, by pairing the two together to combine them against other losses. They shouldn't be compared against each other. If they should be paired, then contrasted why? Other than political ammo against riding what other reason exists?- WTF? (**NSFW**)
- Sh!t Fighter Pilots Don't Say - your additions
"Jeremiah Weed, no thanks." "I wish fighters were based at Cannon again." "That CanKun tour was great." "HQ approved flyby at 300' AGL...I'll pass." At airshow static... "Sorry miss, no private tours allowed."- Classic Thread - Gold Bond Video
My guess is it's part of the UIF letter. It probably says he has a duty not to post the video anymore, but since it's difficult to prove who posted the video onto the Internet he essentially must attack every Goldbond-video-poster as CYA until the UIF disappears. However a UIF has a long spoken history, longer than a UIF is valid in a personnel folder. We're all gossip queens really. Speculation however...- WTF? (**NSFW**)
- AMC to ACC?
What I don't understand is why the AF doesn't eliminate more "middle-leader manager" jobs and replace with comparable technology with great (not underfunded) management information systems or executive information systems? There is administrative crap the FGO corps do that could be automated. I understand there are supposed to be systems out there to meet this requirement; but it appears they're underfunded, misused, and/or misunderstood from my Wing level and below vantage point. Big Blue has overlapping systems processing the same information. For example, why do squadrons use PEX, GDSS 2, and ARMS to process flying beans and generate reports? That's dumb. (Just a small impact level example btw) Why can't Big Blue actually use computer information systems to generate the reports they need or automate processes which are already defined by AFI? It's not like our middle managers change the way we do things by AFI, save running waivers? Would not getting our information systems feces together help reduce staff requirements and get more bodies in cockpits? - Great, we can admin opponents and ourselves to death, Swizz- WTF? (**NSFW**)

When Ramstein transitioned from C-130E to C-130J all of the Flight Engineers and Navigators hit the four winds PCS'ing. There were no positions at Ramstein for Navs anymore. Everyone scrambled for a good assignment. None of over 20 Navs went fighter/bombers, several went to AFSOC (FCOs mostly), 7 were picked up for pilot training (3 are back in our squadron as C-130J pilots), and the remainder went to stateside slicks. Morale of the story = even in a nav-a-palooza PCS in a single month no one, not even our best Nav transitioned to WSO or strike-Nav or whatever it's called now... edit: ######1ng Nav!- Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness
I have a CF-29 laptop screen NVG filter that I'm customizing to fit my iPad. Right now it's too long and wide (ha!) and needs to be reshaped to match iPad screen. It does allow touch screen capability still. - Space A(vailable) Info
