  1. Are you required to sign a LOA? If so, don't sign it and reference the following news article with quotes from the CSAF. I chalk this rule up in the ridiculous column along with the requirement to fold up your watch cap...much to the chagrin of my command chief. http://www.af.mil/News/ArticleDisplay/tabid/223/Article/467619/welsh-airmen-should-use-common-sense-in-approaching-missions.aspx
  2. They shut down 2 squadrons when I was a Luke. We were told squadrons were picked based on some kind of historical "point system." Basically, the squadrons that didn't see as much combat, shot down fewer planes, etc... got the axe. Not sure if there is any thruth to that, but it sounded good at the time.
  3. Same here...I e-mailed AFCENT, no response.
  4. Just a note...my like was that I could see this happening, not that I want it too! Think of all the $$$ they'll save in BAH!
  5. Haven't you heard...All we'll be doing in the future is ISR & CAS in a low threat/permissive environment!
  6. Tell them to fuck off and have your drop somewhere else. There was a class or two that did this when I went through training. They were also told that they were "required" to have it at the club... Or just nod and agree. Then bring your kegs to the drop night anyway.
  7. Lack of AD influence... I wouldn't even consider the Reserves, especially a unit that is on an AD base or one that is embedded with an AD wing.
  8. Only reason I know about the C-145/M-28 was because I was airborne when one crashed in Afghanistan a few years ago. The damn thing flipped tail over nose, onto its back. These guys we're picked up by an HH-60...that subsequently crashed on takeoff! Talked about a bad night. http://www.baaa-acro.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/08-0319.pdf
  9. Technicians already have a union and a contract, now if they could just cover the part timers... Get to a stand alone Guard squadron and hope it doesn't shut down. Stiff arm TFI as long as humanly possible and enjoy the last bastion of the good life!
  10. Why is the AF being forced to buy the Global Hawk? Glad to see Gen Hostage calling it like it is!
  11. If you can get sent through T-38s, it would be exponentially easier. There seems to be a few guard, heavy guys being sent through T-38s, simply because the T-1 spots are all taken. I do know of ONE guy who went through T-1s, flew tankers for a while and was subsequently given a Viper spot by another guard squadron. They sent him to Randolph for a 20ish ride course to learn to fly the 38 (not nearly enough time), then IFF. Unfortunately, things didn't work out for him in the B-course. This was a very rare case, and I would NOT count on this happening. You're doing it wrong anyway. Fly fighters while you're young, then when it's about time for your first neck/back surgery, switch to heavies.
  12. FIFY Who didn't see that one coming...
  13. I don't think the regular American would know the difference.

  15. Assume I'll use them all! Or is it going be another year where they don't have enough UTA/AT days for everyone on base? But somehow they still manage to have extra days at the end of the year...
  16. Jarhead...did they say what exactly is the "budget/funding issue?" As a pilot I get 48 UTAs and 48 AFTPs a year. I fail to see how burning my December UTA costs any different if I burn it on drill weekend or a month later. I don't necessarily use my UTAs on drill weekend. Also, are you guys Reserve or ANG?
  17. This is what I get when I click on this thread. No problems with any other thread. Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 214338 bytes) in/home/flyingsq/public_html/forums/admin/sources/classes/output/formats/html/htmlOutput.php on line 575 Edit: May just be my computer. When I try to go to facebook it tries to load like 5 times and then says not available.
  18. That doesn't make any sense...what does funding have to do with it. It should cost the same whether you accomplish it now or later. I've never heard of such a thing. I treat my UTA days just like my AFTPs. I've never even considered the idea that I can't use my UTA pay days whenever I wish.
  19. I think he's saying there is no need to go to a FSDO to get your ATP. A ride with the FAA is free, but most prefer to do their flight with a DPE. Spend the money and knock it out now. It's not going to get cheaper and it's not going to get any easier.
  20. Ha, that cat has been out of bag for years...as evidenced by the high amount of AD guys rushing the squadron wanting an AGR job. I know all too well things are changing, but is this a Reserve thing? I have yet to hear any rumblings about needing a masters or in-residence (unless you want to go places...stars). My post should have just said no in-residence at all. I think the last guy we sent in-res was in 2004 and that's because he wanted the orders, and he did not do SOS in correspondence prior to going. If they want the full timers to get a masters they had better start providing some Tuition Assistance. You can forget it as far as part timers are concerned.
  21. As Danny said, you pick AGR. Just add....not move if you don't want, no non-voluntary 365s, heck no non-vul deployments (unless they start activating us), no masters requirement, no in-correspondence prior to in-residence, etc...
  22. UFB! It's no wonder we can't roll out a new jet in a reasonable amount of time!
