I don’t care for these particular “artistic effects,” but my experience has been pro aviation photogs on the civ side produce much better pictures than the mil photogs. Not saying the mil guys are horrible, but sorry, some E-3/4 with a few years in is not the same as the guy who’s been doing this for 10-20 years professionally.

Buffs aren’t carpet bombing the fuck out of things like Nam, but they’re still relevant and important today…things change, but relevancy hasn’t decreased. How long have you been studying/taking practice tests? You may be at a point of diminishing returns and it’s best to just rip the bandaid off and take the test (and at least be able to make the app deadline in Nov). At some point, “a couple more months” isn’t going to make a difference in the test outcome.

For clarity if needed, my comment about the incorrect statement about diminishing fighter needs is not a statement that we don’t need, or won’t use, a host of widely different capabilities in concert to achieve our desired effects. Also back to the point of the thread - it’s clear production is not the solution, retaining is. The AF doesn’t need more than 1k pilots produced per year, they need to stop hemorrhaging dudes with experience.

I can safely say the statement about the diminished need of fighters is not remotely accurate. As I’ve said before, the last fighter pilot hasn’t been born. Will fighter aviation continue to change, of course, but decrease in necessity/relevancy, nope.

Honestly I think those of us who have been lucky enough to spend our entire careers flying are overall more happy than we would have been going to school/staff/touch and go flying assignment/back to school, etc. I’ve outflown the hell out of my friends who stayed AD and have been wrapped up in that path. Wouldn’t trade my experience for theirs for $10M bucks…I know that’s wholly subjective, but don’t believe the management hype that the “typical” AD career must look like the cycle I described above.
