The training center scheduling is a nightmare. I waited 5 days between rec ride and checkride. I am now waiting on scheduling to put my last 4 events on the schedule so I can finally go home. One of the greatest things about the ANG is being in the same place for all 20 years. That said, there are plenty of opportunities to go around, especially in the coming years as the airline hiring ramps up. Our OG receives opportunities all the time for random assignments. There are even more to be found if you seek them out. Not long ago, they were seeking volunteers to go to EUCOM for a 3-year AD assignment just to fill a pilot position (ie...not a staff job/embassy job/etc...). There are other opportunities for 30 day, 90 day, 180 day and 365 day assignments here and there. I was looking at a 180 days to Hickam...then I got my airline job so it didn't pan out. Another thing that is a great option is the State Partnership Program. Basically every state has a partner country or two and we have officers who fills a full time billet in each country as a part of that program. A UPT buddy did this gig in Estonia and absolutely loved it. Our two partner countries would be amazing assignments. I considered applying for it, but again the airlines called. It's mostly a sleepy little assignment with LOTS of opportunity to travel...you just have to wear your blues occasionally. 🤮 I did SPP for 4 yrs, 2 in country and then 2 as the Director at JFHQ. 29 yrs in the ANG, visited over 50 countries, worked in an Eastern European Embassy for 2 years. ANG HQ is in DC area with plenty of opportunity for assignment. You can do volunteer assignments in all places you listed. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

I was in a similar position, but I have around 800-900 PIC from my Herk days. Due to BRAC, I was RPAs for almost 7 yrs, got pulled for a SQ/CC gig. My reward was I got to go to a manned flying squadron afterwards. Went thru an AC program but was a CP because that is what we do in the ANG. The proverbial switch flipped and I retired 1 Apr. Got hired at Atlas and start in a week. I didn’t get enough recency (100 hrs in 12 months, had 75) so I wasn’t really competitive for a major. I’m really looking forward to flying the 747 and building 121 time. I’m damn happy to be flying again. I know Atlas has started a R-ATP program that starts in the 737. This is actually great advice. After 29 years, as a pilot recruiter/hirer, as a DO, and as a SQ/CC- I have given this advice countless times. I have always said the answer is no if you don’t ask. I’m on day 8 of 14 in Korea quarantine. I feel like I’m in jail. Can’t step outside the room without an escort, get an hr of escorted yard time every day, COVID test on day 1 and day 12 with a complete room isolation until negative results, you have to have a mask on any time you open your door, and we get 2 hots and a box lunch everyday. Kids have not been sent home. We get emails if someone pops by contact or symptoms. I believe they tell folks if their kids were exposed. So far, mine have been good. This is a private Catholic school, so not a huge population. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
